Welcome to my userpage friends! If you purposely arrived here, then you are likely to be interested in who I am and my presence on Wikipedia. My name is Ruben José de Castro Furtado, I'm a Portuguese-born, Canadian-raised, dual-citizen of Canada and Portugal, currently residing in the Azores. Truthfully, I never grew-up interested in my cultural roots, but as I matured I became more and more interested in the history and culture of Portugal. Returning to the islands in 2007 for personal reasons, I began to search-out information on the Azores, my shared history in Europe and Canada, and develop a presence on Wikipedia.
For a few years I was very active in content creation, subject translation and supporting community, as it pertains to Anglo-Portuguese subjects. I endeavored to add research from bibliographic sources and populate the obscure articles on history and geography of the Azores that are beyond voyeuristic interest, including the geomorphology and the illusive history of the communities. And like some, I became jaded by the conflicts between anonymous users, admins, active editors and sock-puppeteers. So I slowly detached, and did less, with long stretches between slight grammatical edits and fewer and fewer content. But, I miss adding to the zeitgeist and will occasionally build on content, build new articles or edit. It gets into your system. Its about leaving something and helping us advance in the dark times.
