My philosophy

If an article topic has no reliable, third-party sources, Wikipedia should not have an article on it.

"I can NOT emphasize this enough. There seems to be a terrible bias among some editors that some sort of random speculative 'I heard it somewhere' pseudo information is to be tagged with a 'needs a cite' tag. Wrong. It should be removed, aggressively, unless it can be sourced."

"People have to drop the idea that every little tidbit is precious. Crap is crap. Yank it."

The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material. All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged should be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation.

"I think a fair number of people need to be kicked out of the project just for being lousy writers."

"It is an overly optimistic and perhaps naive notion to believe that a body of disorganized editors will produce high quality articles on their own."

The unreliability of Wikipedia will in the end kill it. . . . Wikipedia is not an encyclopaedia, it is a restricted collection of verifiable but at times highly incorrect information.

An encyclopedia where one in ten sentences, fact-checked by at least four editors, is wrong, should not be called an encyclopedia.

Wikipedia is not the sum of human knowledge. It is a severely abridged summary, and sometimes, a very flawed one. Away from high-profile articles that receive diligent scrutiny, it is no better than the last thing said about a topic by a stranger in the pub.

Why the Internet still sucks

• The world is unfair, blind, and unmerciful. It runs on prejudice and cruelty.
• Any time I edit at more than a correct-the-syntax level, I discover again the wisdom that Wikipedia's original name was "Unemployed Ph.D. Death Match."
• As Freud observed, we are most courageous when we feel most loved. Conversely, the lonely are often the most craven, and their anger is the most vindictive. Wikipedia is filled with the lonely.

Strange but True

Writing for a massively multi-moron encyclopedia is a lot more fun than writing for a very quiet professional one. While I prefer the latter in theory, I prefer the former in practice.
