User description[edit]

We have an editor or a group of editors persistently editing articles related to Taiwanese technology, especially rocketry and spaceflight, always trying to make Taiwan look better. The edits are often highly recognizable, and the same edit is done several times (getting reverted each time) over a timescale of days to months. The IP changes frequently. Common elements of the edits:

  • Apparently experienced with some Wikipedia conventions and terms such as those that are frequently used when reverting the vandalism, but at other times seems inexperienced as when the editor does not indent talk page posts.
  • Writing claims with references, but the given references do not discuss the claims at all. This is an extremely frequent pattern. In addition they don't appear to have actually read the sources they cite.
  • Citations are generally bare with only a URL and no other information.
  • Misleading links, giving the impression would have articles like Taiwanese manned spaceflight program or Taiwanese astronauts where the actual link goes to some other article (e.g. to "Taiwan" or "astronaut")
  • Edit warring and discussion in edit summaries
  • NPOV violations like "a cutting edge advanced Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) autonomous lunar lander". Example for all points so far
  • Making politically loaded statements, and keeping wrong statements (from 2005) in the article.
  • Adding tons of links from and to the articles in "see also", probably to promote visibility of the articles. Example
  • Namedropping. Example
  • Repeated edits on pages seem to rely on older versions instead of using the revert function, an example is this diff which brought back unrelated earlier vandalism.
  • There have been three cases where they have been engaged in discussion on a Talk page: here, here, and here.
  • Accusing others of being "the confirmed pro-communist Chinese KMT traitor vandal", prominently in the case of a request of a third opinion for this user and another one in an edit war concerning this article: this editor is known for both appearing to be a serious, good-faith editor and trolling.
  • Addresses from this VPN are used to evade IP blocks and detection. Multiple IPs can be active at the same time affecting multiple pages.
  • Extreme exaggeration about the scope and scale of Taiwan’s WMD program.
  • When provoked they will attempt retribution by going through the relevant editor’s contrib page and reverting their edits/engaging in talk page discussions and siding strongly against that editor, often to an uncomfortable degree.

Y It appears there was a vandal cop with multiple IPs. I'm pretty sure they are OK because they also reverted vandalism on other articles, and appear to have an intimate knowledge of WP regarding POV and RS. L3X1
