Re: Deam Lake Dam and Hope Mills Dam

Dincher, I can make an article for Deam Lake Dam soon. When working on the Hope Mills Dam, I found a giant spreadsheet of all dams in NC that may be helpful. I can also find some other stuff as well and include info about the reservoir. It shouldn't be hard. Do you have a picture of the dam by any chance? I am working on Deam Lake Dam. The research is tough, very tough. There is very little about the dam, no major information in books, the news, the DNR, etc. I also saw it referred to as "Dream" Lake Dam in some references. Alabama locator map

When I looked at the state forest article, and compared the dot on Wiki to Google Earth's dot, they looked pretty close: both dots were in or on the far western edge of Geneva County. Where do you see the dot? Ruhrfisch _><>°^° 22:29, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

State park TFA

I fixed the dead links in both the Leonard Harrison and Colton Point state park articles. Both mention that the first three weeks in October are prime leaf watching season, and there are three November dates mentioned in each article (New Purchase, November 5, 1768), officially got current name (November 11, 1954 ), and Pine Creek in the parks officially listed on the state's wild and scenic rivers listing (November 25, 1992). Leonard Harrison was promoted on August 18, 2008, so it is over two years old, worth two points at WP:TFA/R. Colton Point was promoted to FA on October 11, 2008, so it gets one point before that date, and two after tomorrow. The most recent TFA on a park was Glacier National Park on May 11, 2010. At TFA/R they may possibly count History of the Grand Canyon area (July 4) or Leopold Report (June 28). So if we request a date before Nov. 11, that would be 1 point for no similar article in 3 months, and after Nov. 11 it would be 2 points. Ruhrfisch _><>°^° 20:54, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

We could request Leonard Harrison State Park in the nonspecific date slot and say October, but also point out the three possible dates in November. I was very pleasantly surprised how fast it went - Raul was scheduling when I made the nom. I forgot to mention you on what I wrote at first, then pointed out your contribution and apologized, and then when I went back it was all gone and I thought I had broken some rule on not listing all nominators at FAC or something. Then I looked at the edit history and saw it had been removed as already scheduled. I proof read it today and thought it held up pretty well. It needs alt text, I can work on that. (out) Although I am not crazy about doing it, I will add the alt text - it is not that bad and there is a week or so to do it (so one or two a day). I really like the new photo of Forksville Covered Bridge - the only place I can see to put it would be in place of File:Forksville Covered Bridge Southwest.jpg. They are the same basic view, just Nicholas T's is much prettier. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that the current picture in the article shows the bridge and the general store, but the new one shows only the bridge. Thanks for starting the ALT text, I will do some after this. I think I will add Nicholas T's pic in place of the one with the general store and see how it looks. May switch it back. I really like the infobox picture (might just be because I had to go through a lot to get it), plus I like that the article has views of all four sides of the bridge. Isa Kremer DYK

Hello. I'm writing about a DYK you reviewed and approved last week for Isa Kremer. The hook was:

"Did you know... that a deadly anti-Semitic riot involving approximately 10,000 people erupted in Warsaw in 1922 in response to a planned concert of Yiddish song by soprano Isa Kremer?"

There are a few problems with the hook. First, that sentence in the article didn't have a footnote. Second, the only account of the riot is a 1923 interview by Kremer. (The article didn't say that until it had already run as a DYK.) Surely a deadly riot of 10,000 people in a major European capital would have attracted some attention from the world press.

Leonard Harrison State Park is a 585-acre (237 ha) Pennsylvania state park near Wellsboro in Tioga County, Pennsylvania in the United States. It is on the east rim of the 800-foot (240 m) deep Pine Creek Gorge, also known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, carved by Pine Creek. The park is known for its vistas, hiking, fishing, hunting, whitewater boating, and camping. Native Americans used the Pine Creek Path; later used by lumbermen, it became the course of a railroad from 1883 to 1988, and the 63.4-mile (102.0 km) Pine Creek Rail Trail in 1996. The gorge, named a National Natural Landmark in 1968, is protected as a Pennsylvania State Natural Area and Important Bird Area, while Pine Creek is a state Scenic and Wild River. Although the gorge was clearcut in the 19th and early 20th centuries, it is now covered by second growth forest, thanks in part to the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The park is named for Leonard Harrison, a Wellsboro lumberman who cut the timber, then donated the land to the state in 1922. The park attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, and was chosen by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for its "Twenty Must-See Pennsylvania State Parks" list, which praised its "spectacular vistas and a fabulous view of Pine Creek Gorge". I understand your municipal pixophelia, but I'd say "impossible" unless you define municipality very, very narrowly. I'll work on it a bit. For example, I nearly stopped at Ickesburg, Pennsylvania for snap or 2 of the 20 or so buildings - but then thought "who'd ever be interested in this? Who am I to decide which of these buildings is most important, typical in this place? and mostly How long will this take to do well?"

As far as impossible goes - if "municipality" is just cities, towns, boroughs, and townships (and you're leaving out a lot of very interesting places), there are something like 30 in Perry County, Pennsylvania and something like 60 counties. 30 x 60 = 1800, and that's a very low estimate for the state. I'll be concentrating on NRHPs and bridges, but will make a few extra stops along the way. Sorry to be so realistic! Smallbones (talk) 23:08, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I had seen them all but the most recent one - I thought this one of the Beaver Run Shallow Water impoundment would be good in the article (in place of the photo I took of the same water). Not sure what else to put in. I have now uploaded all the pictures I think I can use (and then some) for the Buttonwood Covered Bridge, if you are interested in looking at those. I had also seen and avoided the big debate at DYK - will nominate the bridge there eventually. Already have the hook. Hyner ELs

The EL is the official page of the Hyner Hang Gliding Club. I took it out of the Hyner Run article as the club page does not really mention that park. It seems like a pretty good EL for HVSP though.
