Validity of this redirect[edit]
@User:RHaworth: Hello RHaworth, can you please explain to me why this obsolete and awkward redirect is a "perfectly valid" one? It is not used in any article (see Pages that link to "The Veneto"). Many thanks, -- Checco (talk) 11:12, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
- A raw Google search for "the veneto", ie. as a phrase returns a ridiculously high number of hits. If we ask it for a revised figure it drops to about 400, which in fact seems too low. But even 400 is ample justification for a redirect. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:50, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
I understand and, in fact, we have The European Union, The United Kingdom, The United States, The President of the United States, The Pope, The New Deal, The Middle Ages, The Industrial Revolution, etc., but do we really need these redirects? I am not convinced. -- Checco (talk) 12:39, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
- Redirects are cheap. What harm are they doing? Why bother to try and delete them? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:24, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
@User:RHaworth: We have been here before! I forgot about it, though! Hello again, then. Redirects are indeed cheap, but what would you think if I were to create The Lombardy, The Piedmont, The Italy, The France, The Germany, The Canada, The South Africa, etc.? There are 1,130,000 Google hits for "the veneto", but also 2,060,000 for "the Italy", 3,720,000 for "the france", 13,300,000 for "the canada" and so on... so what? -- Checco (talk) 08:54, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- Checco, you used {{db-nocontent}} which is a patently invalid deletion reason. If you really insist on its deletion, raise the matter at RfD. You may care to contact Richhoncho (talk · contribs) who seems similarly obsessed with deleting totally innocent redirects. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:09, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- Mr. Haworth wishes to spin things to have precisely the meaning he would wish them to have and shows a lack of judgement mentioning me here. FWIW, I am in favour of deleting 'superfluous' redirects, i.e. redirects that no serve no purpose and are never seen when searching and have no WP historically importance. --Richhoncho (talk) 09:15, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- I used the wrong template, but I believe I am right on the matter or, at least, I think that the issue should be disussed. It is unreasonable to have orphan and inaccurate redirects, thus I totally agree with User:Richhoncho on "'superfluous' redirects, i.e. redirects that no serve no purpose and are never seen when searching and have no WP historically importance". "The Veneto" is one of those. Both of you, please have a say at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2018 September 26#The Veneto. Cheers, --Checco (talk) 09:34, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- I looked at your notification, but I am looking at really stupid redirects, The Veneto serves a small purpose and I was trying to delete the equivalents of say, Veneto (Region), Veneto (Italian region), and The Veneto (region), The Veneto (Italian region and then the same all over again with misspellings, other capitalization. --Richhoncho (talk) 09:54, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
