Old stuff[edit]

Should we make a Fictional government page for the earth hegemony? --larsinio 16:44, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly. There's enough information in the data library to write quite a bit. Certainly more than what you could write about Trioptimum Corporation, which I afd'd a couple weeks ago, as there was no real potential for a proper article. But we also don't want it to become too copyvio, and rewriting could become painstaking. There is the fact that it doesn't really have that much bearing on the game's story. You can't accuse Looking Glass of not going in depth though.--DooMDrat 20:34, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I am in the stages of writing a HUGE World Economic Consortium Article (the evil dudes in Crusader no remorse, who are in the same game universe as System Shock) based upon the Official strategy guide which just has 30 pages of historical background information. So stay tuned to that :) Let me know if you need help with anything youre workin on  :) --larsinio 20:41, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Keep in mind that they are sort of in the same universe. AFAIK, the only references to SHODAN in Crusader is in some material included with the game. And, IIRC, the Crusader games are set in 2196, 124 years after SS1.--DooMDrat 21:04, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
As a designer on Terra Nova and SS1, let me confirm that there was no real concerted attempt to string the different games into one coherent fictional world. We'd pepper one game with references to another to amuse those who were paying attention (like y'all), but that's as far as it went.--Jyaus 16:46, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
There are references to shodan on some of the computer terminals in the like the second to last mission. (last earth mission) in crusader --larsinio 17:03, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Squadmate speech[edit]

I said that they give "subjective" status reports, for lack of a better word. I'm talking about how they may say something like "I'm reading black... lotta black", or "The battle is going our way, SFC", as opposed to a more technical statement. Can anyone think of a better way of writing it?--DooMDrat 13:25, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

subjective is good. or "emotional generic responses" or "contextual feedback" or "contextual narrative". --larsinio 14:10, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Exosquad[edit]

There are a large number of simularities to the Exosquad series, I can make a case for it if you're unfamiliar with the show. Elijya 19:56, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The theme of clans breaking off from a central terran government and then a war ensuing can be traced back to Clans (Battletech), which was a major theme in that game's universe when it was introduced in 1990, I believe. So, I don't think Exosquad is really the inspiration behind Terra Nova, but rather they are incidentally related due to the broader influence of Battletech. GA Review[edit]

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
Very well done, perfect flow had no trouble reading the article.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
You didn't finish referencing the Story sub-section. While I don't think it is entirely necessary, it would help to reference it like the rest of the story section and help point out at which point they happened in the game.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
No real issues, some sections look smaller than others but that just seems to be some sections go with games like this.
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
I was a bit wary on passing this part as there is considerable negative reception covered on the game's graphical issues but it seems equalized by its praise on the other parts of the game.
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions): It isn't exactly the captions but rather the Alt text parameter which appears to be missing for all the images in this article.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
The references and the alt text are the only things keeping this from becoming GA status, once those are fixed it'll be there.
  • Thanks. I'll deal with these issues over the next couple of days. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 20:16, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • I've implemented alt text for both images, and am making headway into the Story section. I should be finished in a day or two. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 22:32, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
