The name, Spock's Beard[edit]

-the above link has the information related to the naming of the band "Spock's Beard", however it just says in general terms about a mirror universe and Spock having a beard, not that the actual original Star Trek episode revealing these fictional phenomena was the influence, but rather the idea. More information is needed to definitively state that they are named after the episode; Mirror, Mirror or just the idea of an other dimensional Spock having a beard, which in the episode quoted in the article, Spock does not have a full beard(modern parlance) but a goatee. Is a goatee a beard. It seems possible that the band members were using a wacky yet strangely profound idea of Spock haveing a beard rather than they actually referring to the above stated Star Trek series episode.--Book M 10:43, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Progessive metal?[edit]

The Progressive metal article seems to classify Spock's Beard as progressive metal - is this correct or not? This article seems to state it is not. - 00:27, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Arguments about where bands fit in the scheme of the audiences' creation are really never-ending, and I can see why some might consider Spock's Beard a prog-metal outfit. I don't happen to agree -- it sounds more like Kansas than anyone I've ever heard, and most people would agree that Kansas wasn't metal -- but I'm open to accepting someone else's position that it is. Spock's Beard is usually classified by prog sites as Symphonic Prog. I've also seen them listed as Neo-Prog or even Third-Wave Prog. That's more with Neal, though. The new band is harder rock and much closer to Progressive Metal then before, but I don't think it's quite Prog Metal.

Discography[edit]

Hi thanks for your work on the Neal Morse article and this one - not sure I agree with the format of the SB discography - although it adds more information about Neal's envolvement I personally think it more 'bity'. Great - not a great issue - but although it contained more information and however much we like Neal I did think it added too much visual complexity in listing for a group that is attempting to move on from being in Neal's shadow. I updated the page and see the changes were reverted. As far as the new album goes, there is a CONFIRMED release date of Tuesday, Nov 21st. The info on the wiki page is outdated

Flower Kings hard rock approach???[edit]

Genre discussion[edit]

If you have ever heard Spock's beard, there are sections that sound like everything from classical to metal. Progressive Rock is the genre that a band that has transitions like that would be. Jazz Fusion should not be inlcuding in it, while they do have jazzy sections they also have metal, country, singer songwriter and many others.
