Missing 16th- and 17th-century references to the well[edit]

Why does this article give the impression that Robin Hood's Well dates from 1710? It is considerably older. The earliest reference to Robin Hood's Well cannot be dated precisely, but it is probably from 1539. The next is from 1634. At the International Robin Hood Bibliography you will ( as of 2021-06-05) find nine references and allusions to Robin Hood's Well pre-dating the construction of Vanbrugh's well-house.

One of many so named wells[edit]

I will be looking at improving this article, but a simple Google search unearths a number of other wells so named across northern England. I would propose this article be renamed Robin Hood's Well, Burghwallis, but for now i may just add a section listiong the others with references.Rimmer1993 (talk) 10:52, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have found some new referenced material and redone the sections to read better. This is in response to a request on the Yorkshire WikiProject newsletter for June 2023.Rimmer1993 (talk) 15:28, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
