El latino italiano[edit]

Why would an Italian be named Garcia? Here's another explanation: southern Italy and Sicily were ruled for centuries from Aragon and then Spain. Though not great in number, Spanish immigrants brought themselves and their surnames to Sicily during this period, surnames like Lopez/Lopes and, of course, Garcia. Therefore, Robert's family may have origins in Spain from centuries before, but by now, he and his family are full-blooded Italians. Now, were the game designers aware of this? What's ta know, eh?

Though I don't have on me at the moment the exact source noting that there're Sicilian Garcias, you can follow this link and look way to the bottom of the page for support on this Spanish surname drift: http://www.bestofsicily.com/mag/art186.htm RemiCogan 00:43, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is true that there are some Spanish people who immigrated to Italy. Also, Spain did rule over Sicily for some time. Either way, I highly doubt the Japanese programmers knew this. They probably just confused the Spanish with Italians. This isn't the first time the Japanese didn't do their research with Italian culture. Brad Burns from Virtua Fighter is apparently suppose to be Italian. Brad Burns?Illadelph44 21:17, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why would his parents name him Robert instead of Roberto (proper Italian name)?~~~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.222.94.12 (talk) 12:02, August 29, 2007 (UTC)

You know, this was brought up in Art of Fighting 2. I was playing as Mr. Big and when I got to Robert, the following dialogue occured:

Big: The little boy from Italy? Run home sonny. Robert: I'm from Spain crud! And no need to bring nations into this, baldy.

Though giving the whole Eiji and Mai thing, I'm not too sure if this dialogue translation is any better. YeldellGW 00:46 September 20, 2007 (UTC)

Further, in AoF1, arcade edition (in the neogeo selectable games cabinet) called HIMSELF Italian. Then in the insturction manual for KoF 98 he's Italian again, and the Japanese version has him saying that he's not Spanish despite his name. I just call him Italian because it's easier. He only looked even VAGUELY Spanish in one of the games anyway. SoheiFox (talk) 03:47, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Art of Fighting 2 had a more humorous localization than the other games in the series. A lot of the dialogue don't even correspond to the Japanese original. Jonny2x4 (talk) 18:40, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

His last name might be taken from Andy Garcia who play Vincent Corleone role in The Godfather part III — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.168.180.69 (talk) 21:22, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
