Genre Suggestion

I do think that Playboi Carti, as well as other mumble rappers like Future, should be classified as Mumble Rap under their genres. I recently edited the page to say Mumble Rap, but it was removed due to not reaching a general consensus. Mumble Rap is not a pejorative term in any way because it describes how the music sounds. It is a type of hip hop music where the artist mumbles the lyrics. This page even states in his genre section that he is classified as Mumble Rap, so I don't know why it hasn't been changed yet.

Something like that needs interpretation from WP:SECONDARY sources to confirm he was stating his upcoming age and birthday in 2012. But when we turn to secondary sources we see stuff like XXL saying "Happy 20th Birthday" in 2016 or Hot New Hip Hop hosting a short bio page that says September 13, 1996. Birthday again

The archived version of the XXL reference says he was 20 in 2016 (which I only just looked at, assuming it was dead due to the presence of the archived version. The current version says he was 22. Actually the live version is just bad article recycling by XXL. It's a totally different story, obviously not written in 2016 as the publication date says since it's referring to 2017 and crucially says Just a bit under a year later, Carti dropped off his debut album, Die Lit. Jordan Carter was born in September 13th, 1995. It is a common fact that he was born in 1995 and not really 1996 like his wiki page says. He used to say ue was born on the day Tupac died but that was some form to create some hype around himself in the early days of his career.

On his last song "H00DBYAIR", released through Instagram on his alternative account he confirmed he was 24 when he had his son Onyx, in April 2020. Then he says he had 27 when he had his daughter, Yves, this year, confirming in fact he is actually 28 years old despite the 2Pac joke.

Also, we have an photo of his ID Card and it says he was born on 1995. There's too much. Probably you guys are not going to edit his page and put his real age but I tell you guys please annalyse this thing cause 1996 isn't right.

While I agree that the vast majority of sources state Carti's birth date is 1996, I think it's hard to ignore that he himself stated his birth year was 1995 to police - I don't think that's something you easily forget? @EphemeralPerpetuals There is no consensus on the 1996 date that is currently in the article. As you stated, a conversation with one user does not make a consensus and as far as I can tell, the date has been added based on the BLPN discussion. I disagree, and contest the date.

My advice would be to add both, to prevent edit warring. The date itself (September 13) is seemingly not disputed, but the year is. Per WP:DOB, both dates should be included in a footnote along with the fact they are disputed if we are to include the 1996 date. However, I think the tweet meets the WP:DOB requirement of a self published post from a verified social media account (See the lengthy RfC that is at the end of the listed link, regarding social media accounts.)

1996 has been in the article for a considerable time, and is properly referenced. There very much is a consensus to exclude 1995. It does not rely on the opinion of one or even several editors, but enjoys broad consensus at WP:BURDEN, WP:SPS (more explicitly explained at WP:BLPSPS) and finally at WP:RSPYT (in particular Most videos on YouTube are anonymous, self-published, and unverifiable, and should not be used at all; A random video on a random Youtube channel can not be used a reference, especially for claims about a living person. Use of that specific tweet for a claimed date of birth was previously rejected by @Binksternet: at Talk:Playboi Carti/Archive 1#Semi-protected edit request on 2 July 2020. Even if that tweet was to be used, it would result in the article having to use a "1995 or 1996" construction due to WP:BLPDOB requiring that editors must not include only one date/year which they consider "most likely", or include merely a single date from one of two or more reliable sources. Right, 1996 has excellent referencing. The 1995 sources are tweets or videos, which are much less reliable than magazines and news agencies. In February 2023 when he was arrested for domestic abuse, the media said he was 26,[2][3] which means he was born in 1996, turning 27 later that year on his birthday in September. Same thing back in 2019 when he was charged with vandalism in the UK; the media said he was 22 in January 2019.[4] The 1996 sources are steady throughout his career. @Binksternet While I will agree that most print magazines state his birthday as being the same date that Tupac died (1996), there has not been anything from the subject himself stating 'My birthday is this date on this year', other than the tweet and the YouTube video which state a different date. Per WP:DOB, a verified social media account can be used for statements about the subject, if by the subject themselves. Several other editors have voiced an opinion on this with regard to the 1995 date over the last few years and more recently, and where there is a dispute regarding a date of birth from reliable sources, both dates must be included per WP:DOB, as well as WP:V If reliable sources disagree with each other, then maintain a neutral point of view and present what the various sources say, giving each side its due weight.

You stated 'it enjoys broad consensus' per several policies and guidelines, which I disagree with, as well as wanting to point out WP:CCC even if that were the case, which judging by the fact this was brought to BLPN very recently, it doesn't seem there was a clear consensus either way.

WP:BLPSPS - do not use self published sources...unless written or published by the subject of the article.

WP:BURDEN asks for a reliable source, which a self published source from a verified social media account is considered, as noted above.

And while the YouTube video itself should not be used to add the birthday on its own, it does support the tweet, and shows disputed dates of birth.
