His page on Apple Music displays his year of birth is 1995[edit]

Please change his birthdate from September 13th, 1996 to September 13th, 1995. There have been several tweets from him corroborating this proposed birthdate change, and more recently leaked footage of an arrest of his shows him admitting to the cop who arrested him that he was born in 1995. 128.211.250.137 (talk) 17:44, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. As said above, the article references sources that say the year is 1996. I know many people would find it silly to believe that over his own tweets, but on Wikipedia we cannot do original research, we must report the facts as the sources say. Carti birth year dispute[edit]

After finally having a minute to pull up the sources for this, there is neither a consistent date of birth for 1995 or 1995, so neither can be preferred over the other per WP:DOB. All articles below point to a September 13, 1995 date of birth, and all are considered reliable.

Looking over the sources in the current article regarding the birthdate being 1996, the XXL one conflicts with their prior statement below and should not be included in favor of one date versus the other. And while Billboard has been considered a reliable source regarding album data, it has never been brought to RSN regarding BLP data (from a quick glance of the previous discussions for it), and per WP:CONTEXTMATTERS should not be included, since reliability is not inherently carried over for everything a source provides. I have added a note to the article to show the discrepancy, and hopefully the article can be unrestricted since this seemed to be the biggest problem with the back and forth of edits.

WP:DOB states that we can use WP:CALC to figure out a subjects date of birth based on a 'age as of date'. Every source above (except for one, where noted), if calculated, shows a 1995 date of birth. There are multiple dates above that show conflict with a 1996 date of birth - including a video of the subject themselves stating they are 22 on a date that would be impossible if born a year later. None of that is OR; it is in the linked to section regarding a prior RfC that says we can Calc a birthday.

I've addressed this at BLPN; please do not restore again until consensus is gained there.

The supplied sources do not settle the matter. What I'm seeing is that we have roughly equivalent sources saying 1995 versus 1996. That means we cannot state one of those years in Wikipedia's voice, dismissing the other half of the sources. Rather, we must state both years, using all the sources. @Binksternet I agree, that is what I attempted by adding the note to the bottom and leavjng the included reference that stated the date of September 13, 1996 as well, since it was in an interview and seemed reliable. And FDW777 has a point, that none of the above specifically state a September 13, 1995 birth date, but they do cause a conflict regarding the year of birth since they all point to a birth date prior to 1996.

Today, Playboi Carti earned his first Hot 100 #1 hit (although in featured role) with Carnival (by Kanye West & Ty Dolla Sign) alongside Rich the Kid. Please change September 13, 1995 or 1996 to September 13 1995. Playboi Carti’s birthday is September 13 1995, not September 13 1996, he has said this himself to a police officer prior to getting arrested while being detained and questioned, additionally there is a twitter post from 2012 stating he is turning 17, which adds up to him being born in 1995. Also, there is a photo of his identification card available online, which would be incredibly difficult and pointless to fabricate. Starting in 2017 there seems to have been some confusion regarding his true age. It seems that an article published in November 2017, which was written prior to September 13 2017, initiated this confusion. On top of this, his apple music profile lists his birthday as September 13 1995, which is something an artist’s label controls themselves. It is known within his fan base that he frequently lies about his age, amongst various other things regarding his musical career.

I am unsure why there is confusion as Playboi Carti has stated his age himself, in 2022 during his arrest, and on September 1st 2012, stating “17 on the 13th”, referencing his upcoming birthday, all of which is corroborated by his id photo, articles predating 2017, and his official verified Apple Music profile. I would like to add that it is confusing to read “September 13, 1995 or 1996” as it raises questions, when many people are visiting wikipedia for answers. Antagonist Tour Deletion[edit]

Carti's label has cancelled his tour, nor has he played any dates. Furthermore, him and his signees have started playing other events. However the marketing is still present on his website and the @opium_00pium instagram account.
