The "Sex industry" section should be merged with "Sex show", with just a disambig message leading to it fom here. This article should IMHO only address the 18th/19th century attraction, a.k.a. "raree show" or "perspective view". --62.214.231.77 17:29, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry friend, the porn industry still calls them "peep shows". So we have to deal with both "nice" family 19th century peepshows and XXX 20th century peepshows.M.O. (talk) 03:39, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • This article aggregates a lot of historical instance data relating to peep shows without managing to be at all explicit about what a peep show is, i.e. a device for strict control of point of view, or at all systematic about the ends to which that strict control is devoted in various cases. As the "peep-show" was known to artists like Alberti, Leonardo, or Hoogstraten, strict control of point of view was necessary to establishing the most complete possible perspectival illusion. In the case of the "peep-show" in the modern pre-cinematic and/or pornographic sense, strict control of the point of view is used to allow charging for the view, limited display of material that would be objected too if freely displayed, etc. I fear that it's adoption by "Wikiproject Sexuality" and "Wikiproject Pornography" only portends more sloppy sociologizing for a topic that really deserves a rather more rigorous treatment.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.248.67 (talk) 19:52, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is a case of an article being devoted to an American sub-genre of the subject rather than the primary topic. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC The Peep Show, called that rather than the less-used vernacular 'raree show' has a long history; below is an extract from The Child's friend. United Kingdom, 1878, but the history goes back to the Renaissance and earlier. The Encyclopaedia Britannica entry defines it as a "children’s toy and scientific curiosity. Consequently I will suggest this article be renamed Peep show (sex industry) so that the more comprehensive article 'Raree show' can be given the title Peep show.
    A PEEP SHOW.
Tom.- -What is that they are looking into?
Batt. -Oh, that's a peep show.
Tom. --A peep show ! And what's a peep show?
BiLl. -It's a large box, in which there's a lot of fine pictures to be seen, and the little round glasses through which you look, magnify the pictures, and make them appear much bigger than they are.
Tom. -Have you ever seen into a peep show ?
Bit. -Oh, yes; more than once.
Tom. -And what did you see?
BilL. -I saw such a lot of things I cannot remember them all.
Tom. - Well, but you can tell me some of them, can't you?
BILL.-I saw the Queen, and she had a crown on her head. And I saw the Prince of Wales, and he had a star glittering on his breast. And I saw Windsor Castle, where the Queen lives. I also saw London by moonlight, and St. Paul's, and the Houses of Parliament. There were also a number of beautiful Scotch scenes, and Swiss scenes, but I have forgotten their names.
Tom. -Did you know what the pictures were without being told ?
BILL.- No; the showman told us all about them, and as he told us, I thought I should like to see the places themselves.
Tom. -Well, I have not seen a peep show yet, but when I have the chance I think I will see one. Jamesmcardle(talk) 10:25, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Peep showPeep show (sex industry) – not the primary meaning of 'peep show' currently the subject of Raree show which might more aptly be renamed 'Peep show'. Jamesmcardle(talk) 10:37, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. I'd be in favour of merging Raree show back into Peep show; it was split off without discussion back in 2020. 162 etc. (talk) 17:28, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and remerge raree show as per 162.--Ortizesp (talk) 19:44, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, merge as suggested by Ortizesp and User:162 etc. could work. The article may become cumbersome and would need careful wording of introduction to fairly address the subject Jamesmcardle(talk) 22:13, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. I think the current article is the primary topic. Rreagan007 (talk) 22:40, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The 'Primary topic' is surely the older meaning of the phrase, as in most cases. Naturist resort serves an example where the earlier history is incorporated, or Mandarin (bureaucrat) as one where discussion of meaning changing over time is incorporated, or Weltschmerz where bot the early meaning, and the later, are discussed. Merging, then, might be the best compromise. Jamesmcardle(talk) 22:57, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose The primary topic is the "traditional" peep show, i.e. the current article plus Raree show, which should be combined into a single topic. MrStoofer (talk) 12:09, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
