Source Needed[edit]

Born in the county of Cluj in Romania, Carpathia's birth is the product of genetic engineering. His birth mother, Marilena Carpathia, is convinced by parties who are, unbeknownst to her, followers of Satan, to become the mother of a child who they assure her would change the face of the world. Marilena's husband, Sorin, and his gay lover, Baduna Marius, provides genetic material to facilitate Nicolae's conception.

Where does this material come from, because it is not in the books (unless it is in 12, which I've not read). Wasn't Nicolae born in Jerusalem, helping to fulfill the "prophecy" (mentioned in Tribulation Force, although he could have been lying about his place of birth.) Yes, it is from The Rising. As an aside, if you watch the Tribulation Force movie, when Nicolae is watching Ben-Judah making the Messiah speech, he starts to get uncomfortable when he says, "The Messiah must be born in Jerusalem," since that gave Nicolae away. I don't remember if it was different in the book, though. Even if it was, it wouldn't have mattered, since Nicolae played down the speech in the book. CrossEyed7 18:45, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I read the left behind series and I think I know alot about the series but there is one thing I must have missed. Nicolae's number (of the beast) is not 666 it is 216. I think I remember Chang saying something about him knowing why but I cant remember him or anyone else saying why it was 216. I am new to this site so I don't know how questions and answers work but if someone could tell me if they know about the number my email is: [email protected]. thanks so much.

For the record, if anybody else has this question, 216 is a multiple. A cube. Guessed it yet? :) Ah, I just love the suspense. Anyway, the number of the beast is indeed 666 (most Biblical texts agree), and 216 is 6 x 6 x 6 . If the book showed that "his" number was 666, it would be a little obvious, eh? Wrong?[edit]

From what I remember of the books (I have read all of them), Marilena wanted her son to have the Carpathian name,and Sorin wanted to draw up a document stating that if the child did anything to embarrass him,the child would abandon the Carpathia name.Serenaacw 06:50, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Importance of the name?[edit]

Other entries (Marilena Carpathia) have indicated that Carpathia is a somewhat important surname for Nicolae to inherit (well, the region near babylon is named after this name but since the region is historically named something else, I suppose the name comes from Nicolae, not the other way around). Meaning of the name?[edit]

"Nicolae Carpathia" means "victory of the people"??? Well, I am Romanian, and this does not sound right at all!

"Nicolae" is the Romanian version of "Nicholas", and "Carpathia" seems to be derived from the Carpathian Mountains, the major mountain range that runs through Romania.

Can somebody please double-check this? Do the authors want this to be "intentionally" wrong (in order to suit their plot), or is this just a simple mistake?

I would bet that "Nicolae" is a reference to Nicolae Ceauşescu, the former Communist dictator of Romania.

Nicolae is supposedly translated as "victory of the people". This may or may not be true. Carpathia does not seem to translate, as its translation is not mentioned in the book. It would appear that Marilena would not want to have a "fatherless" child, in the sense that he does not have the last name of his father.

I believe Nicolae might mean victory of the people in Koine Greek. Without looking it up, I think, nike means victory and laos means people. However, I think most people reading the article will think Carpathia can be translated this way. So that might need to be reworded.

Death[edit]

Carpathia's death is listed as Har Megiddo, Israel. Admittedly it's an odd situation, but maybe Jerusalem, Israel should be added before that.

Junior senator?[edit]

Where did this "junior senator" come from? Page 70 of Left Behind says that he was in the lower house of the Romanian parliament, specifically clarifying that it is not the senate. I think "junior senator" needs to be changed to "member". —KCinDC (talk) 15:53, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

fictional character[edit]

The designation of Nicolae Carpathia as a fictional character is inappropriate, as the Left Behind books are rooted in Biblical prophecies which are literal fact. This needs to be changed now.

While the Antichrist is an archetype in Biblical prophecy, the character of Nicolae Carpathia, is fictional as are all other characters in Left Behind which is allegory and therefore, like the Narnia stories, fiction. Son of two gays[edit]

I read in the wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rising_%28Left_Behind%29 the excerpt. (Quote) However, this baby comes through genetic engineering with the best traits of two sperm mixed into a hybrid sperm, which is fused with the egg. At first, it is unknown who Nicolae's two biological fathers are. Later, they are found out to be Sorin and his lover, and Nicolae orders them executed and the truth covered up. (end quote)
