Protection is only reserved for extensive vandalism, otherwise the Admins will ask that you Watchlist the article and simply revert the edits. No MVP yet for 06-07

Zodiiak, if you read the article closely you can see that the results of the MVP award ballot remain unknown. The article just stated that Dirk was a shoe-in for the award. Doesn't matter if you are or aren't. Not sure why you're directly outing me, I'm not the only one who maintains this article. Fact is, I'm not the one who posted he was the MVP, until I read it on espn. It has been posted that Dirk will receive the Award on espn, espn game nights, nba.com, tnt game nights, etc. Let's be realistic, the article, that was posted as a source until someone removed it, stated:

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki, whose coronation as the first European-born Most Valuable Player in NBA history has been expected for weeks, is scheduled to officially receive the MVP trophy news conference on Tuesday in Dallas, ESPN.com has learned.

What's with this page?

Table suggestions

Two things I'm not sure we need in the main table:

• Flag icons, especially more than one of them.
• Numbers in parentheses for MVP Awards other than a player's first. There is already a table at the bottom for multiple MVP award winners and I think our readers know how to count.

Two things that would improve the table:

• Number of MVP votes won out of number of possible votes. Might be harder to find sources for non-recent years.
• Team win-loss record (easy).

Steve Nash is actually South African

The page reflecs Steve Nash incorrectly as Canadian. He is really South African. He was just raised in Canada. This is similar to Nicole Kidman and Mel Gibson being called Australian- No, they are American (Hawaii and New York respectively) but were just raised in Australia. --Zoldello (talk) 21:13, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, I think he is both Canadian and South African. The Steve Nash article says he is Canadian and he actually represented the Canadian national basketball team. But since he was born in South Africa, so my guess is that he is also South African. However, I could be wrong. Tim Duncan

If the US Virgin Islands are a US territory, and the citizens of US territories are American and US citizens by birth, why does the site refer to him as an international player? Just because you don't come from a US state or D.C. does not disqualify you from being American or from the USA! There are 5 major US territories, all of which the inhabitants are US citizens and AMERICAN and part of the USA. The US Virgin Islands is in the United States or is the USA! Therefore the statement about him not being raised in the USA is false. It should state something to the effect of it being not the continental US or in a US territory. That is a correct statement. Please correct and learn your geography and pol. history!

The note does not relate to Duncan's status as an international. The note actually states that he is able to play for the US internationally, for example on the US Olympic team. As he is a US citizen, has lived in the US all of his life, and plays for the US national team, he cannot be considered an international absent some evidence to the contrary. His NBA.com bio says nothing on this topic. Well, this is garbage, but it's the NBA's garbage, and it's now cited, at least. There was no cite for this prior to now, and since it's ludicrous, it needed a cite to stand. I'll change it to born in the United States of America, although I find that awkward. The source says "will be announced Saturday as this year's winner of the league's top individual honor". Wait until Saturday. In Jabbar's last MVP season, it says in the brackets that it was his fifth. It was actually his sixth MVP award. I suppose this mistake comes from his name change (in his first MVP season he was still "Lew Alcindor"). Would it be feasible to add a picture of the current MVP holder (Stephen Curry, as of this writing) to the right-hand side of the section?

Cross sign

I wanted to ask somebody from Wikipedia about the cross sign, for a long time now. I find that really weird. That cross sign from what I know represents people that are dead. Could something else be used other than that? I find it really morbid, anything else would be better, probably, can it be used a star, or anything really? MVPs in the GoAT Context

The discussion of the "Greatest of All Time" in basketball is constantly argued on the basis of MVP awards versus championship rings. LeBron James's legacy has been enhanced greatly by his recent title while Stephan Curry's has been taking a beating. In this light, identifying seasons in which the MVP lost the championship is just as meaningful to this debate as identifying seasons when they did win it. Singling out the years when the MVP made it to the finals but lost adds some depth by showing when the MVP was surrounded by a cast of some competence.
