Oldest[edit]

How can both the Japanese monarchy and the Danish both be "the oldest" in their respective articles?. A bit of clarification might be in order.--195.84.66.130 (talk) 11:30, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Following on, (hate to be a killjoy) the Constitution is at variance with the first line of 'Constitutional Role': The leg. authority is vested in monarch and Folketing jointly; the Executive is the monarch; the judicial authority is the 'courts of justice'. Curses! Discovered! LOL Well, I do find monarchy a fascinating topic, and I love history. Theyre running repeats of Starkey's series here. Just saw the accession of GEorge I, don't know if they're anymore. Odd as it may sound, I'm not am unqualified republican. Some monarchies, like those of Spain and the Netherlands might even suit a country. It's that 'dieu et mon droit' crap and state churchs and first- born son stuff that gets my goat. Full Cognatic succession[edit]

I changed it to since no one is taking any action. "The last monarch descended from Valdemar IV, Christopher III of Denmark, died in 1448. Popularity[edit]

Fourth oldest?[edit]

The History section describes the monarchy of Denmark as the fourth oldest in the world. It's generally agreed that the Japanese monarchy is the oldest, but which other two monarchies are older than the Danish one? Sakkura (talk) 15:01, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on, whether you count the formation of the Danish kingdom from the time of king Harthacnut I who is the first more or less reliable king that the present royal family can trace their origin from or whether you count the formation of the Danish kingdom to the time where various foregin sources gives a king of the Danish (Denmark) a prominent place in the history of Europe (or they at least claim to do so). The latter definition would/could define the Danish kingdom to be up to 200 years older (or more) than if we use the first definition. By the latter definition, Denmark would be the second oldest existing monarchy in the world, whereas with the first definition some will claim, that Denmark is surpassed by The Sultanate of Oman, The Kingdom of Morocco & The Kingdom of Norway. Kingdom of Denmark or Danish realm[edit]

It seems to create some controversy if the Kingdom of Denmark should refer to Kingdom of Denmark or Danish realm (The unity of the Realm). I can't see any reason why Kingdom of Denmark shouldn't refer to Kingdom of Denmark, but lets take it here instead of these tedious edit wars. Please note that the Danish realm page is actually about the arrangement called The unity of the Realm within the kingdom. Kisualk (talk) 19:12, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
