Oldest[edit]

How can both the Japanese monarchy and the Danish both be "the oldest" in their respective articles?. A bit of clarification might be in order.--195.84.66.130 (talk) 11:30, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations[edit]

Ah hah, the bicycle monarchy page is born. Jolly good show. GoodDay (talk) 23:09, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A much needed expansion. Well done! Just a teeny observation: no references or footnotes!--Gazzster (talk) 23:27, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Following on, (hate to be a killjoy) the Constitution is at variance with the first line of 'Constitutional Role': The leg. authority is vested in monarch and Folketing jointly; the Executive is the monarch; the judicial authority is the 'courts of justice'. So the separation of powers is not just practical; it is theoretical.--Gazzster (talk) 23:37, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, thanks you two! And thanks for your...unexpected help Gazzster. Are you really sure there's nothing you wish to confess? ;) It is only a start and I hope to expand it soon... The Danish monarchy's homepage isn't as informative as ours, hehe. Best, --Cameron* 12:54, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Curses! Discovered! LOL Well, I do find monarchy a fascinating topic, and I love history. Theyre running repeats of Starkey's series here. Just saw the accession of GEorge I, don't know if they're anymore. Odd as it may sound, I'm not am unqualified republican. Some monarchies, like those of Spain and the Netherlands might even suit a country. It's that 'dieu et mon droit' crap and state churchs and first- born son stuff that gets my goat. And monarchy is definitely not suited to my own country.Anyway, congrats again on expanding an important article, comrade (wink)! --Gazzster (talk) 03:09, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And let's not forget - what nationality is the Crown Princess? And a commoner! Shock, horror! Which means the monarchy of Denmark is going to be half-Aussie. A mongel monarchy. And about time. How sweet it is.--Gazzster (talk) 03:45, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Half-aussie isn't a problem...European's are racist. The commoner bit could prove more of a problem...even though we aren't racist we can be a bit snobby! ;) But then I've be advocating Australian, Canadian etc Nobilities for years! ;) --Cameron* 12:47, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Full Cognatic succession[edit]

I read that the 'eldest child' regardless of gender, is first in line to the throne. A referendum adopted it in June 2009. GoodDay (talk) 20:19, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Christopher III[edit]

"The last monarch of the ancient Danish ruling dynasty Christopher III of Denmark died in 1448." How as he of the ancient Danish ruling dynasty? He was as foreign as Christian I of Denmark; the last monarch of the ancient Danish ruling dynasty was Margaret I of Denmark.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 20:45, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I changed it to since no one is taking any action. "The last monarch descended from Valdemar IV, Christopher III of Denmark, died in 1448. Count Christian of Oldenburg, descendant of Valdemar IV's aunt Richeza, was chosen as his successor and became the next monarch of Denmark" --Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 17:52, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Popularity[edit]

Should we write that the Danish royal family and monarchy in general are amongst the popular royal families/monarchies in the world to the inhabitants? If I remember correctly, it's actually THE most popular. 83.89.59.170 (talk) 15:13, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Titles of Norway[edit]

Monarchy of Norway#Titles and styles needs to be expanded by an expert to the standard of Monarchy of Sweden#Titles and Monarchy of Denmark#Style. Help needed.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 17:48, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Legal Immunity[edit]

This article should describe the legal immunity that not only the Monarch, but the entire Royal Family enjoys by virtue of article 25 of Kongeloven (http://www.statsministeriet.dk/_p_5483.html). RicJac (talk) 18:53, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fourth oldest?[edit]

The History section describes the monarchy of Denmark as the fourth oldest in the world. It's generally agreed that the Japanese monarchy is the oldest, but which other two monarchies are older than the Danish one? Sakkura (talk) 15:01, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on, whether you count the formation of the Danish kingdom from the time of king Harthacnut I who is the first more or less reliable king that the present royal family can trace their origin from or whether you count the formation of the Danish kingdom to the time where various foregin sources gives a king of the Danish (Denmark) a prominent place in the history of Europe (or they at least claim to do so). The latter definition would/could define the Danish kingdom to be up to 200 years older (or more) than if we use the first definition. By the latter definition, Denmark would be the second oldest existing monarchy in the world, whereas with the first definition some will claim, that Denmark is surpassed by The Sultanate of Oman, The Kingdom of Morocco & The Kingdom of Norway. Kingdom of Denmark or Danish realm[edit]

It seems to create some controversy if the Kingdom of Denmark should refer to Kingdom of Denmark or Danish realm (The unity of the Realm). I can't see any reason why Kingdom of Denmark shouldn't refer to Kingdom of Denmark, but lets take it here instead of these tedious edit wars. Please note that the Danish realm page is actually about the arrangement called The unity of the Realm within the kingdom. Kisualk (talk) 19:12, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
