His name[edit]

The article starts:

Martin Kollar (in Slovak Martin Kollár). . . .

This is odd, and may seem laborious. Why not simply say "Martin Kollár" and let readers take it for granted that many English monoglots and others will skip the diacritic? Because it seems pedantic to call him "Martin Kollár" even when he calls himself "Martin Kollar" in English- and French-language (and other) contexts; meanwhile, publications in Slovak (and Czech) do have "Kollár". -- Hoary (talk) 13:45, 21 January 2017 (UTC) ... edited for clarity Hoary (talk) 00:58, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

O'Hagan's Observer piece on Provisional Arrangement calls him "Kollar" (and describes him as Czech); a page of photos from the same book that accompanies this on theguardian.com calls him "Kollár" (and describes him as Slovakian). -- Hoary (talk) 23:24, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Darwinek retitled this from "Martin Kollar" to "Martin Kollár" and made some of the edits to the text that this required; later, I tried to complete this process (but very likely missed a few instances). However, I'm not at all sure that this was the right thing to do. Kollár/Kollar could (I presume) have his publishers (etc) give his name as "Kollár", but he doesn't. Overriding somebody's spelling of his own name seems rather arrogant. -- Hoary (talk) 01:27, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Kollar's Nothing Special takes up pages 98–101 of the first edition of Howarth and McLaren, Street Photography Now (T&H, 2010). Worth listing? -- Hoary (talk) 06:03, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Previously a listed "External link", but probably doesn't qualify:

This is likely to be a useful resource in the future. -- Hoary (talk) 08:09, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not working right now but imaginably useful: this at newyork.com. Behind a paywall but imaginably useful: this at ft.com. -- Hoary (talk) 07:43, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
