  • ... that snooker player Mandy Fisher was encouraged to parade in front of press in Hyde Park wearing carpet slippers and a maternity dress?
    • ALT1:... that snooker player Mandy Fisher played whilst pregnant, but lamented that this was more newsworthy than female players' skill? Source: Briggs, Gemma (2008-02-17). "Girl power that's just as driven: Even the men believe that a woman's touch can raise the profile of a sport". The Observer.

  • A few issues, from minor to major:
  • Neither hook needs "English female" at the beginning
  • The lead refers to her founding the World Ladies Billiards and Snooker organisation, but the body claims its name was the World Ladies' Billiards and Snooker Association.
  • she reached the final of the World Women's Snooker Championship, known as the. ... known as the what?
  • ALT1 is not consistent with the article; the article says "women players demonstrating their skill" (not necessarily her).
  • The author of the article added the source and the suggestion. I don't have a version to check the source. I'll ping the editor: BennyOnTheLoose Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:38, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • ALT0 is not consistent with its source, which claims Hearn "forced" rather than "encouraged" her, and that she paraded, rather than played, in front of the press.
  • I'm not entirely comfortable with Women Sport Report as a source for Main Page content. No author is attributed, and reading its about page it lists increasing "the marketability of female athletes to sponsors, advertisers and manufacturers of sporting products" as one of its goals, suggesting it may not be entirely independent.
  • Hmm, it's certainly independent of the subject, it's more if it has an agenda, no? A lack of an attributed author isn't exactly grounds for dismissal. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:38, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • To articulate my concern more precisely, I feel the source may be setting out to promote Fisher rather than write neutrally about her. Another paragraph of concern at the end of the about page:
Here at www.womensportreport.com we have set out to raise awareness. We recognize the need for the promotion of sports women to keep them going. Therefore we’ve offered our site to female athletes and women interested in sports, men interested in helping sports women to achieve the same respect as men and the opportunity to promote themselves further.Teratix 10:04, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is an unsourced claim in the article that Fisher later returned to the WLBSA after stepping down. The lead says she currently serves as president but this is not sourced anywhere.
She was forced by Barry Hearn, now World Snooker chairman, to parade in front of the massed ranks of the world’s press in Hyde Park wearing carpet slippers and a maternity dress. (source)
She had been encouraged by Barry Hearn, later the World Snooker chairman, to parade in front of the media in London's Hyde Park wearing a maternity dress and carpet slippers. (article)
Sentence structure is identical, only minor changes made such as swapping synonyms and list order.
Otherwise meets criteria. – Teratix 12:20, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Lee Vilenski Looks like there are a couple of learning points for me here. I’ll have a look when I’m back from holiday this weekend BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 15:59, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Lee Vilenski, Teratix, it's been three weeks since the last post here—where does this nomination stand? It would be great if we could get the review moving forward again. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:58, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • If BennyOnTheLoose could just check the source for ALT1 and make a tweak to the hook or the article per my above comments, I'd be happy to approve it. ALT0 and ALT2 rely on Women Sport Report, which I'm not convinced is suitable for sourcing Main Page material. – Teratix 01:24, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Teratix I've added some sources and quotes, hopefully this helps as they will be more reliable than Women Sport Report (the text there is, I believe, copied from a WPBSA press release, but I can't track down the original). Sorry for the delay, let me know if I've misunderstood what was being looked for. Thank you. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 00:03, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding those quotes, it's very helpful for other editors. I took the liberty of making the necessary tweak to ALT1 and it can now be approved Teratix 09:58, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
