MTV2 Europe[edit]

Have moved info about MTV2 Europe into its own article. MrWeeble 20:34, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article is now called MTV Two. --SteelersFan UK06 14:43, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Courtney Love "24 hours of love"[edit]

There should be a paragraph or two about Courtney Love's hosting on MTV2 for 24 hours straight. It was highly unusual television, and indicative of the chances the channel took early in it's life to garner attention.

Foo Fighters "24 hours of Foo"[edit]

There should be just a much if not more info on this 24 hour block as Courtney Love's. Obviously a way to show how the channel is more "legit" if you will than its big brother MTV,perhaps the highlight of the channel since the re-launch.

  • I was going to do something like this in the Foo Fighters article, but never got around to it. Maybe I'll write it in the future. --G VOLTT 22:03, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

need M2 launch jingle[edit]

I recall my mind getting numbed in 1996 by commercials with those weird guys in birdfeathers and masks or whatever chanting something like:

24 more good urologists.

24 more nuns who do the twist.

(I forget this line, but it rhymes with TV)

24 more hours of music TV!

Am not!

M2!

Am not!

M2!

Am not!

M2...M2!

I think the imagery counterpoints the metaphor beautifully and the main entry's early years should contain the completed jingle.JimmyTheSaint 16:00, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jimmy: Those commercials you saw in 1996.....the actors were a pantheon of Elvis Impersonators, all different sizes, shapes, and degrees of authenticity....and the background chant was "24 hours of Music Television...!" We recorded the soundtrack music at Power Play Recording Studios in Newark, NJ....doing 50 seconds of the "CC Rider" chaser (which Elvis used to enter and exit the stage with on his live concerts)That was not a music track sampled from one of Elvis' live shows....it was done by a live band (Bill Turner & Blue Smoke <myspace.com/billturnerandbluesmoke>) and it was all real...no synthesizers. We used 2 trumpet parts; 2 tenor sax parts; baritone sax; electric lead guitar; acoustic rhythm guitar; electric bass; drums; keyboard; and pedal steel guitar...7 musicians total. (an anonymous user)

Thanks for the info. It's obviously one of the more memorable promotion campaigns because it continues to haunt me. But what's the frickin' missing line from the jingle? JimmyTheSaint 00:59, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy, That is my all time favorite M2 ID spot. I loved all of those 24 more spots (2 Elvis ones, "Loving Two Women is Tricky", "Here in My Armchair", "24 Hours to stay indoors, when you should be climbing trees" , etc. I have them all.

Here are the lyrics to the one you requested:

24 more, mystical encounters 24 more, types of flouders 24 more, maidens in the tree 24 more hours of music tv

(watch it)

24 more, good urologists, 24 more, nuns who can do the twist, 24 more, types of free... 24 more hours of music tv

Am not, M2 Am not, M2 Am not, M2, M2

I'm singing it already. Now I can die. But before I enter the jingle in the article, is it "nuns who can do the twist" or "nuns who do the twist"? Also, I assume you meant "flounders" not "flouders." Might as well get it perfect. JimmyTheSaint 02:54, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy, yes the line is "nuns who can do the twist". Thank you for recognizing my type-o, yes that is flounders. I am not really sure how to use Wikipedia, and anytime I try to update some inaccurate information on M2, I get a warning. I included the videos played during the first hour and corrected the fact that the name change to MTV2 didn't occur in 2000, but rather early in 1999. Because I thought this site was concerned about accuracy I made the changes, only to get accused of vandalizing the article. Since most people did not have access to M2 in the early years, not much is known about it or written. I bought a 10 ft dish just so I could get this channel back in 1996. That is where I can help. I had the channel from the beginning and have about 300 hours of programming on tape still. Yes 300 hours, you do the math of how many tapes that is. There were many things M2 did in the early years from programming that most never saw, and that is a shame. As an example, were you aware that on January 1, 1999, M2 played Prince's 1999 repeatedly for 24 stright hours? Glad I could help you out on the mystery jingle. I could probably make an mp3 of it for you and email it to you if you would like. Sorry, but I don't know how to sign this thing.

Seeing as how you're an expert on M2, you should sign up for a Wikipedia account, then I bet you won't get any of those warnings when editing. I've never gotten one. I'd love to get an mp3 of the jingle, but no way I'm going to post an email address anywhere on wikipedia. I wonder if it's fair use and not a copyright violation to attach the jingle to the article?

Increase the Beat music video list[edit]

Is there any place out there that lists the 400+ music videos that were played on that weekend, from slowest to fastest BPM? This list is something I want to find more about. --G VOLTT 08:40, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Subthingy.jpg[edit]

Image:Subthingy.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Current status of VJs[edit]

It should be noted that Jim Shearer no longer works at MTV, he briefly worked at Fuse, and is now the current host of VH1's Top Twenty Countdown. This article makes it look like Jim is still on MTV2. --Whip it! Now whip it good! 22:54, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shart Video Hour?[edit]

Shart? Really? Viacom's shit and fart hour? I don't think so. Changed it to AMTV, which is the show on. Apple8800 (talk) 19:48, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

VJs and video playlists[edit]

In 'Original VJs and Shows,' Nils Bernstein [myself] was also a VJ for a few months during that time (1999, I believe). Also, this is untrue: "They hand-picked all of the music videos that were played for the eight hours every day." A HubPages site called "The M2 A-Z Marathon: It Never Happened" has some interesting background, largely culled from message groups at the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NBern123 (talkcontribs) 18:29, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
