Request to move article to List of school shootings in the United States[edit]

I think this article is better be merged with List of school shootings in the United States Caesarz870 (talk) 06:48, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I thought the same when I first saw these two articles, but that was before I saw their sizes. So, no, I think they should be kept separate. Both articles are getting pretty big and it is likely that the List of school shootings in the United States will need to be subdivided by decade for it to be manageable in the future. A century break is a logical subdivision of the article List of school shootings in the United States. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 08:08, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Orangeburg Massacre at South Carolina State University on February 8, 1968 is an omission that should be added to this article. 68.41.83.40 (talk) 02:13, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: The list excludes police actions, such as Orangeburg massacre RudolfRed (talk) 03:36, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Linkrot[edit]

At least one link is now 404ing, and possibly more. (See the footnote for the 1850s shooting w.r.t. Hale.) Can we run a script that fixes these using the Internet Archive? --X883 (talk) 19:07, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For the section on the Murchison Junior High School shooting on May 18, 1978 the name of the victim is wrong. The victim's name is stated as Wilbur Johnson, however in several news sources, it is listed as Rodney Johnson. [1][2]

Not done: One of your sources says "Wilbur “Rod” Grayson", the other says "Mr. Rodney Grayson". It seems likely that the article on the classic rock radio station's page used the nickname, rather than the real name, as it does not match the other sources. 18th Century[edit]

What happened to the list of incidents that occurred during the 18th century, including those that occurred before the birth of the United States? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.244.210.117 (talk) 10:16, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly my question. The first school shooting happened before the U.S. became a country. JanderVK (talk) 21:59, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request to add 2 school shootings to this list.[edit]

In wake of this week's news, I visited this page and noticed that 2 school shootings at my high school are missing. But I don't want to screw up this page with my inexperienced editing. So hopefully somebody could add this:

Shooting 1: September 12, 1986 (Los Angeles, California): Two Fairfax High [(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairfax_High_School_(Los_Angeles) ] students, ages 15 and 17, shot and killed recent graduate Antoine (Tony) Thompson, 18, on campus during an argument over a payphone.

Shooting 2: January 21, 1993 (Los Angeles, California): A 15-year-old Audobon Junior High student attending a Fairfax High [(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairfax_High_School_(Los_Angeles) ] early morning winter session English class accidentally shot Eliaho (Eli) Kogman, 17, and Demetrius Rice, 16, while playing with a .357 magnum in his backpack during class. The bullet went through the chest of Kogman, who was sitting one desk away, and pierced the left side of Rice, who was walking back to his seat from the teacher’s desk. Rice staggered a few steps, collapsed and died. Kogman was transported to the hospital and survived.

Should accidental shootings be listed under here?[edit]

A school shooting is defined as an attack, and an accident is not an attack. I don't think accidental shootings belong on this page. (Additionally, it would take a long time to list all firearm-related accidents at schools.) Xenoriole (talk) 23:08, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
