Rather than a single GP column with NHL career games played, how about three separate columns containing the games played with the Atlanta Thrashers, the combined total for the Thrashers/Jets franchise as well as the player's total NHL games played. I think this would be preferable and would better indicate that a player like Evander Kane has played his entire career with the franchise. The single GP column is an indicator of the Thrashers' success at drafting NHL caliber players as a whole. Breaking it into three columns makes the table needlessly larger and inherently more complex and potentially confusing (not to mention an updating nightmare). Thanks for responding but I disagree on two of your points. I don't think it would be any more difficult to update. The number of games played for the Thrashers won't ever change, the franchise total will update in lock step with the NHL total until player leaves at which time it won't update again. Finally your answer contradicts itself. If their specific time in Atlanta is what this page pertains to then you agree it is an important detail and should be shown with its own column as I proposed. I agree showing a third franchise games played column would make the table a bit wider but is important, it's not that Kane left the franchise, the franchise left the city. The colors have been removed, my original thought in keeping them was that it shows the players that only got their chance in Atlanta or the Thrashers organization believed in. Considering there was a substantial front office turn over with the move to Winnipeg it shows a difference of personnel decisions. My original thinking was a player like Boris Valabik who played 80 with Atlanta but only played 3 AHL games last season, vs. a player like Brett Sterling who has since played with 2 other NHL franchises even in a limited capacity, or Michael Garnett who was never given another NHL opportunity outside of Atlanta but has had a successful KHL career. This was simply an extra that similar draft pages do not use and since the interpretation can be varied and as you pointed out "doesn't adequately convey the desired details" so there is no reason to keep it.
As for the games played columns I miss read one of the columns thinking that one would be just Jets games along with just Thrashers games so there would be a constant subtraction of game totals which increases the chances of error or looking through players individual statistics to maintain the pages. Which is why I figured it would be problematic. Regardless, I still think that having the one total of NHL games played is an indicator of how well the team performed at drafting and the caliber of players they were able to scout. The franchise didn't want to trade Ilya Kovalchuk, but were unable to re-sign him so the fact that he didn't stay with the team and move with the Jets is inconsequential to the type of player he became and his draft position vs. Tobias Enstrom who has played for both teams and the type of player he became after being drafted in the 8th round, or someone like Spencer Machacek who played 10 games in Atlanta and 13 game with the Jets after being drafted in 2007. It may be the computer your using, on my computer and on my work computer all of the pictures fit right next to the table with plenty of room. I know that on my old computer I had that issue with images on list of player pages. Perhaps they could be shank a bit more to universally fit next to the table? You might want to try reducing the size on the last image and finding what size they need to be at to fit right next to the table since I cannot tell at what point you would see them fit properly and would prefer to keep them as large as possible. --Mo Rock...Monstrous(leech44) 00:02, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
