State of the article[edit]

Leontyne Price went to Central State University (nee College) in Wilberforce, Ohio. In fact, a benefit featuring Paul Robeson was held at Central State in the early 1940s to raise funds for Ms. Price to study at Julliard. Wilberforce University is a different school in the same community. A complete list of her recordings and the few DVDs she appears on would be helpful, if someone has the time to assemble this information.

I am pretty certain Miss Price sang at Lyndon Johnson's inauguration and I know she sang at the White House for President. and Mrs. Carter on October 8, 1978 because I was at that concert and have a copy of the program. 71.163.237.206 (talk) 23:23, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would have to disagree, it certainly is too gushy and unencyclopedic. I mean, what's with the "vat of chocolate" or whatever...it's too complimentary and metaphorical etc...many other weird bits like that! I think I'm going to sort some bits now! Would recommend also changing the picture - either a "head shot" from an album jacket, press photo, "Met" or other handbill, or even in costume. Quick search of the web found several possible photos much better than the one in the article. Tag for cleanup[edit]

This article seems like a review of her performances or a fan page. Statements like "She is a witty woman" and has a "brilliant upper register" and "well placed high B flat" are opinion; they cannot be verified and do not belong in an encyclopedia. Would disagree, it is not only not like a fan page but one of the better opera biographies on wiki, it even has a criticism and analysis section which is far from complimentary. As to "brilliant upper register" and "well placed high B flat" are opinion; they cannot be verified" I am afraid that this is a miss-understanding of verified. Describing a singers voice to have a "well placed high B flat" or "brilliant upper register" are common descriptive terms (when applicable) to classical vocal performers (this is not a science article after all). The New Grove says for example: "Her voice was a true lirico-spinto, able to fill Verdi’s long phrases with clean, full, dusky tone", while the New Grove Opera says: "...she had a true lirico spinto voice, full and resonant in tone".Tucker ^talk 11:59, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All right, once again, why is there no "life Profile" of Ms. Price? How old is she; her marriage to William Warfield, and its longevity, and fidelity (you know what I mean). Was Leontyne Gay, or not? Wikipedia articles are a work in progress. If you see a deficiency in an article, than I encourage you to edit the article yourself to improve it. Unsourced lines[edit]

I can't find a ref anywhere for "Aged 9, she was taken on a school trip to hear Marian Anderson sing a recital in Jackson, an experience she later said was inspirational. "The minute she came on stage, I knew I wanted to walk like that, look like that, and if possible, sound something near that," she stated in an interview in 2010." and if the interview was really in 2010, it seems unlikely that it wouldn't be online—I've removed it for now. Not sure if this is worth including (have not found a ref for it, yet, either): She accompanied the "second choir" at St. Paul's Methodist Church, sang and played piano for the chorus at Laurel's all-black Oak Park Vocational High School. The chorus was a prize-winning ensemble led by Mrs. McInnis. After the onset of World War II, when she was in high school, Price began working part-time in the Chisholms' household as a maid and baby-sitter for their youngest daughter, Cynthia. When not working, she was encouraged to play the piano and listen to the radio and record player.

Suggested replacement of infobox image[edit]

Suggestion up for debate of a better photograph of Leontyne Price to replace the existing photo taken in 1994. 375 × 470 pixels, file size: 20 KB image, with:

Taken in 1995, which has greatly improved colour, resolution and quality. More informal than current publicity photo and arguable therefore better for her general Wikipedia main image. 1,880 × 2,858 pixels, file size: 1.42 MB.

Eh I'm not sure that "informality" is a favored trait in lead images—haven't you seen every US president's article? Not particularly attached to either, but the current is by renowned photographer and shows her (I think?) in costume. But again, not sure. Aza24 (talk) 21:02, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
