Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on November 29, 2007.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that billionaire Leonore Annenberg (pictured, left), wife of business magnate Walter Annenberg, was the Chief of Protocol of the United States from 1981 to 1982 under President Ronald Reagan?

2007 rank in Forbes[edit]

Our sources seem to show that Forbes ranked her both 165 and 488th in wealth in 2007. Were there some changes in the counting method? Why are there two different ranking for 2007 and why do they differ so widely? Rmhermen (talk) 01:12, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

She was 165th in the United States, and 488th in the world. Happyme22 (talk) 01:15, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish?[edit]

Her maiden name, Cohn, is Jewish; was she? Nietzsche 2 (talk) 03:46, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I originally thought that she was, but I'm not so sure now. When I first wrote this article, I read somewhere that she was born into a Jewish family. But upon her death early this morning (I'm from California), I read an LA Times article here that says: "Harry's wife, Rose, raised her [Leonore] as a Christian Scientist, and that remained important in Annenberg's life." So I'm not sure. Happyme22 (talk) 04:04, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think she was Jewish by birth; her uncle, Harry Cohn, was Jewish, so her father must have been - I'd assume based on her birth place and year that her mother was Jewish also (plus, the New York Times obit states that her grandparents were immigrants from Russia and Germany - [1]). I think it's just one of those odd stories - she was taken in and raised by Harry Cohn's non-Jewish wife - and thus was raised a Christian Scientist. (a phrase here seems to say that she was Jewish - "Through charm and a mastery of the art of hostessing, she is also credited with helping elevate the Annenberg family's stature, bending a Philadelphia social order that excluded most Jewish leaders.") All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 09:02, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Times Online describes her as a "grand-daughter of Jewish immigrants from Russia and Germany" - [2] All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 20:31, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I added that she was the granddaughter of Jewish immigrants. If more information comes up in the future, we can work from it. Thanks a lot for your help! Best, Happyme22 (talk) 23:04, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
