Flying Finn[edit]

"The original Flying Finn"? Keke might be called one of them, but I definitely don't think is "the original". -- 80.186.38.189 15:44, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So would it be fairer to call him the original 'Flying Finn' in Formula One? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.109.66.150 (talk) 15:17, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. Although unsuccessful, Leo Kinnunen used the term on his Surtees TS16. Prolog 14:13, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Doesnt look like Keke on the Wolf pic?--— Typ932T | C  18:23, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's Keke for several reasons:
  • (as mentioned in the picture's description), Rosberg didn't start driving for Wolf until after the Monaco GP. (According to Mike Lang's Grand Prix!, Hunt didn't even quit the team until a couple of weeks after Monaco, so I'd be very suprised to see Keke in team gear at that race).
  • I'd be suprised for a driver to be wearing exactly the same outfit as the mechanics
  • The hair colour looks too dark for Keke.
I think it's just a mechanic who looks (admittedly, quite a lot) like Keke. DH85868993 (talk) 07:14, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keke Rosberg

Keke Rosberg (born 6 December 1948) is a Finnish former racing driver and the winner of the 1982 Formula One World Championship. He was the first Formula One driver from Finland to win the championship. Rosberg began his Formula One career in 1978 and he drove for a number of different teams before signing for Williams in 1982. After four seasons there, he spent his final season with McLaren before retiring in 1986. Rosberg's son Nico won the 2016 Formula One World Championship. This photograph, from the archives of the Dutch photograph press agency Anefo, shows Rosberg at the 1982 Dutch Grand Prix.

Ethnicity?[edit]

Was he part of the Swedish-speaking population of Finland? I assume so based on his name + place of birth. The Finnish wiki says: Perhe oli suomenkielinen, vaikka kunta oli enimmäkseen ruotsinkielinen. It would be good to add the information or more details on this. a455bcd9 (Antoine) (talk) 09:09, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can't really find sources on it, but it would be interesting if some could be found. TylerBurden (talk) 20:33, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
He is not: see this "Ask from Helsinki City Library" answer (also already used as a source in the article, i.e. ref #4) that quotes two books about Keke Rosberg. By the way, you can always pretty easily find sources for "big Finnish names" if they're Swedish-speaking Finns (which is a term used of Finnish people whose mother tongue is Swedish - not for any Finnish person who speaks Swedish fluently), but there are very, very rarely sources for someone being a Finnish-speaking Finn because that's the basic assumption. "I assume so based on his name + place of birth" - note that many Finnish-speaking Finns have Swedish-language surnames and a Finn born in Sweden in the 20th century isn't rare at all due to the massive Finnish immigration to Sweden during the 20th century. 62.113.190.191 (talk) 16:39, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I didn't know. a455bcd9 (Antoine) (talk) 09:39, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
