Notability[edit]

Regarding the issues raised about notability I feel that his notability is based on the following:

  • Jenks was a leading member of the British Union of Fascists, to the point that he was nominated as a successor in the event of Oswald Mosley's imprisonment. This was not made clear in the article and has now been added in.
  • As the sole architect of the BUF's agricultural policy Jenks was responsible for a large part of the party's policy and, whilst it was never implemented due to the BUF never forming a government, his ideas proved influential on a number of government initiatives. Again, this was not made clear in the article and has now been added.
  • Jenks was a leading figure of the organic food movement and a pioneer in this respect. Although this was mentioned it has now been detailed more, including a quote in the first paragraph that indicates his importance to the movement.
  • He was closely involved in a number of post-war rural pressure groups, some of which are still in existence, and produced a high volume of written work for them.
  • Jenks has been covered in detail in a number of independent, third-party sources, as indicated in the references. He has also been covered by an article in a peer-reviewed, academic journal devoted entirely to his career. This article has only just been added to the entry as it was not available to me until now. However I feel that the addition of citations from this article, as well as its very existence, makes an important stride in demonstrating the notability of the subject. Whilst this in itself only "presumes" notability according to Wikipedia:Notability the above points demonstrate his notability whilst this one shows how widely covered he has been.

I'm not altogether familiar with the etiquette in these cases and so I will not remove the tag that has been added yet. However I do feel that notability has now been established and if no comment is taken within a week I must assume that to be the case and will go ahead and remove the tag.Keresaspa (talk) 15:35, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have been bold and removed the tag -- clearly notable. – ukexpat (talk) 15:37, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'm glad it was somebody other than me as I could be accused of having too much of a vested interest, as I'm responsible for most of it.Keresaspa (talk)
Comment I put the original tag there, and would have removed it when I had seen the changes. Looks perfectly fine now. As for your "wait a week", that is a good way to deal with it when you are the main contributor. One reason that I personally use the {{notability}} tag is to show other editors that the article is already being watched, and to avoid a more hasty editor putting a speedy tag, as the article didn't have a clear claim of notability in the introduction. Fair enough. There were a good few things I missed out and if I had not seen the tag I probably would not have gotten round to adding them for ages so perhaps it's as well that you did. Keresaspa (talk) 16:25, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good attitude. In theory, that is what the tags should do. They aren't just to nag, they are to inspire someone to make changes to improve the article. Sometimes I will just be roaming an article and see a FACT tag or similar and think "man, I know I can source that" and just fix it. I have seen several potentially good articles get speedy deleted simply because they were started without a clear claim of notablity to begin with. We have to sift through so many articles here, sometimes it is difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff when you do it so fast. PHARMBOY (moo) (plop) 16:43, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
