Name of the page[edit]

Shouldn't the name of this page be Irish Catholic Martyrs? It's not as if there were no Protestant ones ...Rbreen 10:41, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't think it should. These people are known as Irish Martyrs. If there were other articles on Irish martyrs, it would be appropriate to disambiguate, e.g. "Irish Martyrs (Roman Catholic)". --Bwpach (talk) 15:27, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting that they are not all saints. I didn't know that a church could be dedicated to beatified people. You learn something every day.Red Hurley (talk) 16:21, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should or will such one-sided lists get us all prosecuted for incitement to religious hatred?[edit]

Should or will such one-sided lists get us all prosecuted for incitement to religious hatred? I'm joking of course, but many a true word is spoken in jest. Shouldn't we be trying to merge this kind of list so that Catholics get to learn about Protestant martyrs, and vice versa? Tlhslobus (talk) 04:11, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Since this discussion has got underway at the (English Protestant) Marian Martyrs' Talk Page first, it may well be best to continue this discussion there to have these inter-related discussions in one place, as Wikipedia generally recommends, though I'm not sure whether that is necessarily best in this case because of differences between the English and Irish situations. At any rate please be aware that the discussion there already contains comments of relevance to any discussion that may or may not be conducted here, comments which should probably be copied to here if it's decided to have a separate discussion here. The list has been around for centuries, and is just as much a list of names as the 12 apostles. About whom we also don't know very much. Both this list and the apostles were not notable for hating anyone, if notability is the main concern.84.203.45.4 (talk) 12:37, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
