New name?[edit]

Since the military conflict has both spread and escalated, I think it's time for a better name for this article ("Orlu Crisis" can be the title of a separate page dealing exclusively with the fighting in Orlu). Any suggestions? I would appreciate it if we can avoid godawful descriptive non-titles such as "ESN insurgency in Eastern Nigeria (2021-present)". @Mikrobølgeovn: I think that "ESN insurgency" carries its own problems, as non-ESN militant groups seem to have become involved as well. Perhaps the most neutral and fitting one would be "2021 insurgency in southeastern Nigeria"? At least until a proper title appears in media or among academics. Allied Democratic Forces insurgency is called ADF insurgency even though other non-ADF militant groups are involved. Also, even we do go with something like "2021 insurgency in southeastern Nigeria" please don't include a number. The number is just unneeded and looks ugly. Another name could be "Insurgency in Imo." "Insurgency in Imo" is problematic since the conflict has spread even outside the borders of former Biafra/Eastern Region. I'm also a bit worried that this conflict can be confused with the Conflict in the Niger Delta? Also, the way things are looking, the ESN is not the only armed group taking up arms against the central government. As of now, I think "Insurgency in Eastern Nigeria" is the most suitable. Kindly review: Chapter: Insurgents as Party to the Conflict Author: Yoram Dinstein “Non-international Armed Conflicts in International Law” (2nd Ed, Cambridge University Press, 2021). Page describes situation as a military conflict which it is and the page clearly shows that the organisation criterion has been sufficiently met - to be classified as a Non-International Armed Conflict or Internal Armed Conflict not an Insurgency which is also not the common name but the dubiously government-pushed and preferred nomenclature so that the laws of NIAC do not apply to it as a party to the Geneva Conventions and APII. More reputable sources such as the BBC and Reuters state that he was arrested by Interpol. The claim that he was kidnapped by Nigerians or Kenyans has been spread by his supporters and family, see here. 8th June 2021 propaganda[edit]

@Brek1234567: That's not what the article is saying, or at least I don't read it that way. As far as I see it, the police official in the article claims that the ESN is completely fake, despite the fact that photographic evidence of combat operations had already been published at the time. The police official claimed that the police had not yet found any ESN camps or ESN members, even though video evidence of ESN battling security forces existed at this point. @Brek1234567: True, but it still seems very strange that we get reports of police members being killed and kidnapped by ESN fighters, followed by the police claiming that they have never seen any proof of the ESN's existence. New title?[edit]
