GA comments[edit]

This article is very, very good (in my opinion) and incredibly well referenced. I will pass as a good article and suggest the following for FAC, this isn't far off...

  • WP:DASH is applied to seasons, so instead of 1984-85, use 1984–85.
  • Reduction in repetitive use of references, particularly ref [1] which could be used once per para. Same for [4], [5], [8], [11]. I realise that some people think that everything needs reference (I suffered the same fate in Adam Gilchrist, but it looks a bit silly to reference every sentence of a single para in the same way.
  • Use of "around" instead of c. - reads better.

Good work. The Rambling Man 17:06, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Long sentence[edit]

"Tom Mather was appointed manager later in 1923 although Stoke were unable to mount another promotion challenge and were relegated from the Second Division four years later in the 1925–26 season." Could benefit from a break somewhere. J.Winklethorpe talk 22:22, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've split to: "Tom Mather was appointed manager later in 1923 although Stoke were unable to mount another promotion challenge. They were instead relegated from the Second Division four years later in the 1925–26 season." Dave101talk  15:27, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stoke City: Cumulative goal difference graph[edit]

I've made another graph for the History of Stoke City F.C. page. It needs tidying up a bit before "going live": the managerial tenure dates need to be made more accurate (I can get them from SoccerBase) and I think the manager's name tags can be aligned better. These things can be fixed quite easily but I wanted to get some feedback from you all before doing any more work on it.--Payo (talk) 12:36, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protection[edit]

Can somebody please protect this page? Edits such as these are not befitting a featured article appearing on the Main Page. --Candlewicke  :) Sign/Talk 16:15, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely. Pages featured on the main page are rarely protected. Usually only in cases of heavy and severe vandalism. Latics (talk) 22:17, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know but that was pretty bad. What was worse was it seemed to have been there for some time. --Candlewicke  :) Sign/Talk 10:46, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non sequitur[edit]

"The club joined the Football League upon its formation in 1888, making them the second oldest club in the Football League." This sentence doesn't seem to make sense to me, but I don't know enough about the subject to rephrase it in a way that explains what's really meant. I assume it means that Stoke were the second oldest (ie second earliest founded) of the clubs that joined the league on its formation. But that doesn't, per se, make them "the second oldest club in the Football league". Surely it's not actually relevant (to the point being made) that Stoke joined the league on its formation? If another club with more ancient roots had joined later and was still in the league today, they'd still be an "older club in the league" than Stoke, wouldn't they?
