I will update this after this weekends games. May the best team win! --136.167.103.213 23:25, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have never heard of the term "Green Line Rivalry," even though I lived in Boston for 12 years and was affiliated with BU for 5 years. Does anyone outside of BU or BC use this term? If not, it isn't notable, since you need a third party source that references it. A BU newspaper wouldn't qualify as third party. On Google, I could find no use of the term outside of college papers and sites that scraped this article.

This should probably be merged, as a subsection in the relevant BC and BU articles. Djcastel 14:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Technically The Daily Free Press is a third party, independent of the university itself. BigKennyK 03:17, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge it with Beanpot. --Bud 07:23, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bad idea, since this term is used for more than just the Beanpot. In fact it is still used for sports other than hockey. I will make some edits/add some sources to reflect this. 90.27.71.69 22:49, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The term has been used by the Boston Herald - http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/bostonherald/results.html?st=advanced&QryTxt=\"Green+Line+Rivalry\"&By= BigKennyK 13:37, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also found refs in the Boston Globe (http://www.boston.com/sports//packages/beanpot/1991.htm), ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2401000), scout.com (http://providence.scout.com/a.z?s=425&p=2&c=76102). Also, it is referred to distinct from the Beanpot in this book (http://books.google.com/books?id=qeBJur7oC1cC&pg=PA20&lpg=PA20&dq=%22green+line+rivals%22&source=web&ots=J93zBzT9hZ&sig=7EDMI6tJN_uWEqtI8z-ohKSFYI0#PPA11,M1). Battle of Boston[edit]

I have heard this rivalry called the Battle of Boston. Shouldn't that be mentioned here too? 205.172.21.153 18:20, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, in fact I suspect "Battle of the Commonwealth" is a typo, since that refers to BC's rivalry with UMass. I'll make the edit. Loudandtrue (talk) 01:49, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Bubcprogrambig.jpg[edit]

Image:Bubcprogrambig.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with File:BostonCollegeEagles.png[edit]

The image File:BostonCollegeEagles.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following images also have this problem:

Complete Coverage??[edit]

I'm curious as to whether this rivalry extends beyond football and men's hockey. Both teams have very good women's hockey programs, with both programs in the top 10 very often. I am lacking knowledge of other programs, but I'm guessing there could be significant expansions. I'm a Massachusetts college hockey fan (UML River Hawks), and enjoyed the piece. Thanks, and regards Bill McKenna (talk) 04:45, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It definitely does include the women's ice hockey teams, in fact, as indicated by the lead, it includes all sports between the two universities. However, I don't think the notability of the women's hockey rivalry would merit chronicling every match they play, as the games for the men are done. I happened to see a small section on the minnesota-minnesota duluth women's rivalry on their respective pages but nothing more than that, which leads me to think the "other sports" section could be expanded to include a write-up exclusively for the women. I'm not sure how much information is freely available about the all-time records between the two teams, so I'll look into it on the Hockey East site. Mushh94 (talk) 21:56, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
