Cleanup?

Just curious why there has been a Game Cleanup template at the head of this article since July 2009 with no actual issues listed on the discussion page (nor obvious issues with the article itself, from what I can tell)?--Chimino (talk) 10:31, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Addition on alleged racial stereotyping

I am letting anyone who is in charge of this page that i will be adding a small section on the alleged racial stereotyping portrayed in the game. The article says "Edinburgh the home of Rockstar North, to Fife even although the road bridge is highly similar to the Golden Gate Bridge." ... dont you mean to say it is similar to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge ??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.251.81.227 (talk) 07:21, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

List of in-game vehicles reverted as WP:TRIVIA

Hello, I've reverted a long list of all in-game vehicles which has been added twice by the same user (originally around 3 weeks ago). I feel this is an indiscriminate list which doesn't belong in article per the policy noted above, but wanted to see if I could gain consensus here. Thanks! Boogerpatrol (talk) 16:26, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Agreed, this is textbook WP:GAMEGUIDE ("avoid lists of gameplay weapons, items, or concepts, unless these are notable in their own right"). --McGeddon (talk) 14:24, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
The Video game WikiProject also has its own guidelines on it. See item 6 at WP:GAMETRIVIA - X201 (talk) 14:27, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Country of Rockstar North

Should we need to have the country of Rockstar North on the article? It seems a bit pointless as it doesn't add anything to the article. TheDeviantPro (talk) 14:56, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

From what I can see, it doesn't unnecessarily complicate anything, and it adds some information. The country of development isnt actually mentioned anywhere else in the article, which is a bit strange, even though it is in that category. If there isnt a problem having something there, and it adds information, why remove it? The fact that rockstar games is american and rockstar north is british is probably new to many people, especially as all (or almost all) of the GTA series are set in america. Benboy00 (talk) 15:06, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

The point is it seems unimportant to included this as it doesn't add anything to the article, this article is not about Rockstar North this article is about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas if people want to know about Rockstar North or Rockstar Games they should go to their articles. Loads of games have been set in another country then they are developed in (such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Assassin's Creed ect.) and their articles doesn't say that are developed "In Japan" or "In Canada" after mentioning the developer so why is mentioning the country of Rockstar North in this article is important?. TheDeviantPro (talk) 01:56, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Comment/Suggestion I'm going to remove "In the United Kingdom" as it's trivia for Rockstar North and holds no real point to be included in the article unless it has some real significance to the game itself it might be better to mention that the series is made in the UK in the series article than in the game's article, that means we can keep out meaningless trivia out of the game's article to keep the article tidy and straight to the point. TheDeviantPro (talk) 08:54, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

You don't seem to have really addressed my points. It doesn't negatively affect the readability of the article, and does not significantly increase the length. It is an interesting piece of information, for the reasons I stated before, and it looks like that is a good place for it. I also notice that you removed the content before editing this talk page. By all means feel free to add it to the games series page as well if you want. Benboy00 (talk) 12:49, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

It's a piece of information that's not relevant to the game itself in anyway or add's anything significance for the article, from a point that you stated before "rockstar games is american and rockstar north is british is probably new to many people, especially as all (or almost all) of the GTA series are set in america" there are LOADS of games that is set in different country than where it's developed and nearly every (if not all) of those articles doesn't state the developers country in the articles itself so why is this article is different than any other huh?. It's a bit of trivia for Rockstar North not for the game, if people want to know where Rockstar North is, than they can go their page. P.S. it's already stated the company is based in Edinburgh in the setting section. TheDeviantPro (talk) 14:37, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Comment I have posted about this matter in the WikiProject Video games talk page since this is getting us nowhere, I think it's be much better if we can get more users on this discussion. TheDeviantPro (talk) 15:16, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Probably. Benboy00 (talk) 15:37, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

I don't see an issue with what only needs to be a single word "British developer Rockstar North". There are many Rockstars and it is the contribution of the UK arm which delivers a big game. I don't see an issue with that from a reading perspective and, at least in the film project, American editors are always very eager to claim credit for a film. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 15:39, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
This is probably not significant enough to be mentioned in lead, at least we usually don't as it just clutters already long intro sentences. However, I see no reason why a few words (e.g. "UK-based developer") about the developer's location can't be added to the development section. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 15:40, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
I think its important that we keep in mind that it's not about credit, its about informing people of relevant facts. Changing uk-based to british may be a good solution, as it removes a few words, but I personally quite like the way its phrased atm, although its hard to quantify exactly why. Benboy00 (talk) 15:46, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
I think having the sentence with "developed by British developer Rockstar North" is a bit too long as still will clutter the introduction, we want to shorten this sentence so we can get straight to the point of the article (which is the game itself). It might be better to have it mention in the development section of the article although there isn't one for this article, my suggestion which I suggested before is including the developer's nation/country in the series article rather than the game's article, we can state that the series is British made or made in the UK for the whole series rather including this sentence in every individual game's article, this means it doesn't get repeated on any GTA game article and there will be less clutter on the articles. TheDeviantPro (talk) 22:13, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
The problem with having any nationality there is that it gets used as a political prize; it will get changed to "Scottish", then to "British", then will stay at "UK" for a while before being changed to "Scottish" again, and the whole stupid thing starts again. - X201 (talk) 09:24, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
I dont think anyone has really had that attitude on this article (at least not yet). "UK" is usually the same as "british", and we shouldn't disclude something just because there is a potential for people to vandalise it. If people edit war over british vs scottish, its not really that big a problem, because both are correct. Benboy00 (talk) 15:43, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

ENGVAR

Related to the discussion above, which variety of English are we supposed to be in here? At the moment there are instances of both, which looks bad. See also: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#WP:ENGVAR. --John (talk) 20:08, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

The more I think about it, the more I think this article should fully be in UK English to reflect where the game was created. It's important that it should use one or the other and this seems a fair way to decide. --John (talk) 21:09, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Merge soundtrack articles

Video game cruft, largely unsourced article is not the subject of independent commentary. The few sources that I could find on the soundtrack/box set are enough to cover it adequately within its section of the game's article. And it can always expand out summary style. – czar 16:46, 27 September 2015 (UTC) – czar 16:46, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

  • Oppose the two articles being merged here, but support the two soundtrack articles being merged. I think that the soundtrack stuff would take up too significant a part of this article to merge in, it's a suitable use of a fork. However I don't see a reason the box set needs its own article. -mattbuck (Talk) 17:01, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
I don't actually think any of the content needs to be merged (only stuff sourced to an actual source should be merged). Those articles don't have enough sources to stand as their own articles, though. – czar 17:10, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
Trim them and see what's left. -mattbuck (Talk) 17:33, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
I already did? It's all unsourced and there's zero to merge. (And if anyone really wants the track listings, they can pull them from the article history.) I redirected them here and it was contested, hence this rigmarole. It's common sense to redirect unsourced articles. If anyone wants to expand them summary style, they can start with the sections in the game article. – czar 18:05, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
I'd say the track listings are quite important given we're discussing albums, and telling people to "pull them up from the article history" is deliberately hiding pertinent information you don't like. -mattbuck (Talk) 19:21, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
The Official Soundtrack's 23 tracks would be fine to list, as normal, but the track listing for the dozens of radio tracks should only be invoked as used by the sources (e.g., if they highlight a track, mention it, but don't just indiscriminately list dozens of tracks because it was once listed on IGN). czar 03:10, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Notable subject covered by multiple reliable sources.[1][2][3][4]. No way you could fit the tracklisting in here. - hahnchen 23:44, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
Why wouldn't everything that needs to be said about the soundtrack not fit in this article? And why would we list every track from the radio stations in this one or its own article? It's overkill. This is an encyclopedia, not an indiscriminate collection of information. czar 03:10, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Just because not everything is sourced (which is not the case here, as you do not need to look far to find sources for this), does not mean it does not exist. Listing the radio stations and their playlists is not "overkill" because they make up a large part of the game itself.
P.S. Why did you not instigate this discussion before you created the redirects for the GTA IV and V soundtracks? 81.96.94.137 (talk) 17:32, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Answered this question wherever you first asked it czar 15:04, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose - I would say merge the two articles listed into their own. Definitely too big to merge into the GTA SA article proper. Definite fork as mentioned. I'll gladly take the time to investigate and add sources. I know a fair bit on my own due to extensive playing of the video game series. I just went to the GTA3 article looking for music information (I don't have it memorised), and it seems to be already lost (radio/music listings). Although GTA3 isn't as extensive as GTA:SA, even it deserves a forked article. Yes, other sources exist, but many people (myself included) come here first. Please leave and add any appropriate 'citation needed', and I'll work on it. Thanks! Baseballfan (talk) 03:44, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
They need to be expanded more than tagged citation needed, but anything unsourced obviously needs a source. I can appreciate that you've come to WP for this stuff in the past, but people also come for all kinds of minutiae outside the scope of Wikipedia. If these soundtrack articles warrant a separate page (and the full 70+ track listing), it should be easy enough to find reliable sources and write an article worthy of the extra space. czar 15:04, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
I'll try and put some effort into it, and indeed, it will be easy to find sourced articles, as music in the GTA games plays quite a big role! Cheers! Baseballfan (talk) 03:37, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose - +1 to mattbuck's suggestion to merge those two articles, just not here. Sethyre (talk) 19:52, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Notable subject with multiple reliable sources. ♠♠ BanëJ ♠♠ (Talk) 10:23, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Some people may be looking for information found in the articles. ConCass (talk) 15:39, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Consensus is clear enough that I think y'all can move ahead with merging the two soundtracks. Count me as unconvinced, though. We'll see what another three years of decay will do for these pages. czar 04:21, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Update: I have restored and preserved the articles to my user page. Damian001 (talk) 17:58, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Page notice

Why does this page use British English instead of American or at very least international English? The article itself states that the game takes place in a fictional U.S. state. Sakura Cartelet Talk 22:06, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

@Sakura Cartelet: The developer, Rockstar North, is based in Scotland. – Rhain 02:06, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
Really? Still I don't see why this series seems to get different treatment than others. Fallout a game series made by an US developer doesn't have a banner that only limits it to American English after all. Sakura Cartelet Talk 05:50, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
@Sakura Cartelet: I'm sure that using American English on the Fallout articles has never led to any contention or discussion, as it's rather straightforward. Grand Theft Auto, on the other hand, has led to several discussions in this regard—as is expected when a game is developed by a British company and published by an American one—but most discussions appeared to have ultimately favoured the developer's nationality. – Rhain 05:59, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Big Smoke's order

I'm surprised Big Smoke's order isn't mentioned here as it has become a meme lately, therefore making it popular culture and deserving of a mention. CoolSkittle (talk) 20:53, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

WP:V/WP:RS is the primary concern here, as memes are not usually discussed in popular media; however, if you do happen to find reliable sources depicting the Internet meme as notabile, you may add it to the article, of course. Lordtobi () 10:17, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

The PS4 version is merely the PS2 game in emulation, the game was not properly ported to the platform, which is why we exclude it. Similarly, PC re-releases of DOS games using DOSBox should also not be included. Lordtobi () 09:19, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

This needs a definitive answer in the article. SchmuckyTheCat (talk) 12:14, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

was the PC version ever remastered? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.191.60.228 (talk) 05:39, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

I don't think so. The Steam version "cleaned" vehicles for some reason, which is highly debated in some parts of the community, but not notable for the article. Lordtobi () 06:56, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Plot length

@GUtt01 and General Clanker: The current revision of the plot, while much shorter than previously, still contains 835 words—135 words (19%!) over the 700-word limit—which would warrant another {{Long plot}} tag. Instead of fighting back-and-forth about what exactly should be included and how what is worded, please try to cooperate to create a plot summary that is both comprehensive and concise. Compare this to Red Dead Redemption 2, which plays almost twenty hours longer on average but still manages to fit its plot into 699 words. For example, some details, such as the celebration of "Mad Dogg's first Gold Record" seems completely trivial. The focus should be on the main story arc that the player follows to complete the game. IceWelder [] 16:11, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

@IceWelder: Rather than suggest us to do this, you could amend the problem yourself. I've made a start, but if you think you can do a better job, than please feel free to do so. Like it says here on WP:BB - "Fix it yourself instead of just talking about it". The only thing I can say is that General Clanker may not be helping with his edits, that's the only thing I don't appreciate. GUtt01 (talk) 16:14, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

(If I can, I will try to work on the plot some more. I have some ideas, but want to see how they play out in my sandbox first.) GUtt01 (talk) 16:29, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
GUtt01, I have not yet completed the game so I lack the knowledge required to write up a synopsis. Since you two were already warring over the plot(s), I was hoping that you could combine (rather than oppose) your knowledge to pin down an as-good-as-possible summary to put the years-old issue to rest. IceWelder [] 16:32, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
I see. That's fairly understandable. I got ideas to trim it back further, and bring it in line with Wikipedia policy on video game plots. I'm not sure about the other - he's not been helpful, considering I checked his talk page and saw he has expanded plots on other GTA games much against other editors' advice.GUtt01 (talk) 16:34, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Plot

Hello fellow Wikipedians!

As some of you might know, I recently started doing some modifications on plots of games developed by Rockstar, mostly the Grand Theft Auto series. It's true that I used to make plots too long, but more recently I adjusted those of TLaD (which was too long) and TBoGT (which was kinda short), so make them a decent length, not too long nor too short (about 680-690 words each). I consider that this is the optimal length for a GTA game, which are known to have relatively long storylines, with many characters, each with their own storyline, going on at the same time. That's why I consider that San Andreas here needs only some more minor adjustments. All I want is to include several characters like Catalina, Salvatore Leone and Ken Rosenberg, for two reasons:

1. They appear in other GTA games, thus connecting San Andreas with the rest of the series.

2. They play an important role in their respective sections of the storyline, giving missions to the player (Catalina helps CJ rob some stores, CJ works for Salvatore in Las Venturas to earn the mob's trust before the robbery of their casino, and also works for Ken, who later helps CJ reestablish Madd Dogg's career).

Other then this there is no other addition I want to make (maybe other than The Truth, who is also a major character, working alongside CJ for Tenpenny, and later helping him open his garage in San Fierro). My last edit on this page was exactly this: I included these characters in the plot, while removing some other unnecessary parts to shorten it, so that it would stay under 700 words. My intentions are good and I sincerely apologize if I annoyed or upset anyone with my edits. I just want to write about the games I love and let others, who perphaps haven't played them, know a short version of their storyline, which is something I consider really hard work and I appreciate all those who do it, because its not easy to resume a 20 hours long story to just 700 words that take about 3-4 minutes to read. The stoylines are just what I always liked about the games made by Rockstar, and games in general. — Preceding unsigned comment added by General Clanker (talkcontribs) 13:12, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

Edit: Seeing as to how I have gotten no response yet, I would like to add the fact that I don't wish to complicate or make the plot overdetailed in anyway. I just want to aknowlege these character's existence in the game and summarize their role in about 5 words each. I don't see how that would be harmful in any way, seeing as to how I would shorten other, less important ideas to make sure the plot respects the standard length of under 700 words.

Side-plots and minor plot details DO NOT NEED EXPANDING! You keep ignoring people telling you not to do so. While you may be contributing in good-faith, heed what people are telling you, and review MOSVG about how to deal with articles on video games. We don't need to know EVERY CHARACTER, because of two things - 1. We got an article dedicated to listing all of the characters for the game; and 2. We only need to focus on the MAIN CHARACTERS of the game. Supporting characters are not essentially needed. GUtt01 (talk) 14:04, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

Ps4

Hey guyys, GTA San Andreas is on PS 4 and PS 5... Add it Fufjaka (talk) 10:40, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

@Fufjaka: Do you have a reliable source for that? From what I can gather, San Andreas was not released on those consoles but instead they are able to emulate the PS2-version (see PlayStation 4 system software#Backward compatibility and PlayStation 5 system software#Backward compatibility). Our articles only list those consoles for which a port was created explicitly, not every system able to emulate the game. For the same reason you won't see "PC" on the list of platforms of the Super Mario Bros. article because it was never released / ported on PC. Yet there being literally dozens of emulators out there that allow you to play the game on your PC. Regards SoWhy 10:53, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
