Dorothy Houston Jacobson

Dorothy Houston Jacobson (November 13, 1907 – July 13, 1985) was an American political scientist and educator, and a co-founder and chair of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party. Born in Herman, Minnesota, she served as Assistant Secretary for International Affairs in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) from 1964 to 1969, during the Johnson administration, and was the first woman to serve in a sub-cabinet position in the USDA. This 1967 photograph depicts Jacobson seated at her desk at the USDA headquarters in Washington, D.C.
