  • Reviewed: Ikeda Route
  • Comment: Hook is a quote from Will Menaker, co-host of Chapo Trap House and a major figure associated with the dirtbag left.

Converted from a redirect by Morgan695 (talk). Self-nominated at 23:16, 15 May 2020 (UTC).[reply]

  • New enough, long enough. An excellent article in terms of policy compliance: well-cited, informative, and presenting a range of views on a controversial topic in an evenhanded manner. Earwig only identifies direct quotes. QPQ complete.
Hook is short enough, cited, provocative, and neutral in that both admirers and critics of the article topic would be likely to find it apt. I suspect I already know the answer, but for the reasons described at WP:NOTCENSORED and the Main Page, I would be remiss if I didn't ask the author to consider offering an alternative hook without an f-bomb. (Prior consensus seems to be to discourage offensive hooks if alternatives are available; see Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know/Archive_105#Proposed_rewording_of_rules.) • Not entirely sure that's strong precedent, as "fuck" was in the article title and hard to avoid, but the special searches from that discussion do indicate "fuck"s have been published in DYKs in more permissive contexts. Approved if the promoting admin concurs. FourViolas (talk) 22:03, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Italicized first use[edit]

I'm not certain that MOS:WORDSASWORDS applies here; "dirtbag left" is a proper term that, has not been derived from another term, and has been used in multiple secondary sources. Can you please provide a rationale? Morgan695 (talk) 19:15, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Derivation from another word isn't what is relevant here. In this sentence, the term itself is being referenced, so it is being mentioned rather than used. To use an example, MOS:WORDSASWORDS provides that you would use italics in the sentence "The dirtbag left is a term for [such-and-such]" but not in the sentence "The dirtbag left is [such-and-such]". Do you understand what I mean? 207.161.86.162 (talk) 22:22, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see what you mean. I've revised the lede so italicization isn't necessary. Morgan695 (talk) 22:37, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure whether or not mode is the right word here, but that works too as I'm sure the exact wording there can be reconsidered. Thanks, 207.161.86.162 (talk) 01:30, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Changed to "style", but if there's a more accurate word you can think of feel free to replace it. Morgan695 (talk) 03:01, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Spectator reference[edit]

There is a reference in the ref list (ref name= Spectator) that currently isn't in the content of the article. I don't want to remove this as it could easily be forgotten about, but someone needs to verify where in the article it was supposed to be used, and place it there. Inkublu(talk) 00:04, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Inkublu fixed, Red Scare was removed leaving the source behind earlier this month by a new editor who seems to have misunderstood the criteria for inclusion in this article. Doug Weller talk 11:03, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Glad that's sorted, thanks - I didn't have the time to check @Doug Weller Inkublu(talk) 14:06, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Know Your Enemy is dirtbag???[edit]

Very surprised to see (without citation) that "Know Your Enemy" is "linked to or described as dirtbag left". It's hard to think of a more civil podcast. Is there a credible source for this? Or is it trolling? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C6:2498:8E01:795E:BF2E:C725:11E4 (talk) 21:31, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, there isn't. That and and another one were added by [[User:Lastdaysofpop]] despite the first one only being called "left" in the source and the 2nd not sourced. I've removed them. Doug Weller talk 13:33, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
