Links to sequels[edit]

N. Harmonik, you didn't comment your edit, so I don't know what your reason is. I removed the links to all the sequels because this article is still just a stub. To make it more than that, a good start would be to add specific information about the sequels. (Similar to the Commander Keen article for instance, which describes all the games in 1 place.) Then if the article becomes too long, new articles about the sequels can always be created, and having links will be useful. It is unlikely that will happen before the main article outgrows its stubness, among other things because the games are all similar, so it is not time for that (yet). L.Driver[edit]

I wondered why the author says that L.Driver is the weakest competitor in all game modes? I just re-bought the game after my original was broken and played for some hours and I remember him (with one or two exceptions) always being in the top five ranking in destruction derby mode, two times 1st place with 99 points. It is the only game mode where he is not driving with that shy/careful learnerdriver-style like on the race tracks. Might perhaps be a version difference (I got the PSX PAL version from Germany), but I think that's rather unlikely. Simon Klindworth (not registered yet) 11:13, 24 May 2006 (CET)

Assessment[edit]

Responding to the Request for Assessment for WP:CVG, I see no reason to upgrade this article from Start-class to B-class. It reads like a game manual, not an encyclopaedia article - for someone not looking for in-depth information about how to play the game, only the introduction contains valuable information. Reviews, criticism, and information on how it influenced the genre are needed.

I'm not adding this to my watch list - please notify me on my talk page if any further comments, assessments or reviews are needed from me. --User:Krator (t c) 17:30, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced material[edit]

The following is unsourced information:

  • On the "City Heat" track there was a promotional billboard for "Wild Bill's Auto Parts". This fictional character would make another appearance in advertising in the game's sequel Destruction Derby 2. Also on "City Heat", "Toon Army" is written on one of the bridges - a reference to the developers' local football team, Newcastle United.

While this is interesting, we can't use it unless you provide a source. Also, none of this is really trivia, as trivia by its definition is "unimportant information" - it therefore shouldn't be in a trivia section but instead the information should be incorporated into the main article. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 04:56, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Windows[edit]

The infobox mentions a Windows version. Is this a typo? 2fort5r (talk) 23:24, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Fixed it. --Mika1h (talk) 18:36, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There did come out a S3 Virge version bundled with the Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 which requires Windows 95/98 to run. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFVcYvOvCrs — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.221.35.70 (talk) 19:02, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Soundtrack[edit]

Does anyone have information on who did the great music for this game? It was all one style, at that time probably called hardcore dance or techno. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.164.228 (talk) 11:25, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)

1. It is reasonably well written.

a (prose): b (MoS):

2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.

a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
  • The last two sentences of Reception need inline citations.

3. It is broad in its coverage.

a (major aspects): b (focused):
  • The entire second para of Development is devoted the game's N64 version but there is not a word about the DOS and Saturn versions. Why not write about them, too?
    • The same goes for the PS Network release.
      • Quite simply, it's because there is no information on those versions. The original release and the N64 version were the ones that had development coverage and developer quotes. Why the N64 version? Probably because it was so heavily changed—and because it was released 4 years after the original. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 21:37, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
        • Actually, I found a tiny bit of coverage for the Saturn version in one of the scans I was provided while working on this article. Let me add that. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 21:44, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pass/Fail:

Best game ever?[edit]

If i remember correctly, it said in the manual that it is the best game ever. Can someone verify?--62.242.41.180 (talk) 23:36, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed split[edit]

I don't understand why Destruction Derby 64 is here. The article says 'A Nintendo 64 version, Destruction Derby 64, was released in 1999' but that is not a 'Nintendo 64 version', it is an entirely different game. It has drastically different courses, cars, game modes... in other words, it is not a port of the original PlayStation/Saturn/DOS Destruction Derby for that platform, it is a different entity altogether. I therefore propose that this article is split between the actual game and the Nintendo 64 game Destruction Derby 64 which I will also work on expanding. Destruction Derby 64 exists already as a standalone article. I now moved the content pertaining to the N64 version there, and wikilinked the page from here. Felix QW (talk) 10:51, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
