Destiny's current residence/My "Edit War"[edit]

As of right now Destiny's personal life section states "Bonnell has previously lived in Glendale, California, Culver City, California, Huntington Beach, California and Miami, Florida before relocating to Nebraska in 2020 to be closer to his son where he currently resides."

Right now, Destiny lives in Miami. His twitter lists Miami Beach, Florida as his location and It is a well known if you watch his recent livestreams or videos on YouTube or any recent appearances of his on shows or podcasts because he talks about it so openly. I originally just corrected this section without any source until user @ScottishFinnishRadish reverted it and in my Talk section encouraged me to provide a source and re-add it. A fair ask to me at the time so I obliged with a YouTube video from 2021 of Destiny directly stating he moved from Los Angeles to Miami and re-added my change. Users @Sideswipe9th and @Grayfell took issue because they believe YouTube videos aren't a reliable source, despite having YouTube videos sourced already twice on this page as of right now. In fact, if you look at reference 29 that was already in the section I changed it is literally a timestamp of Destiny saying he moved to Miami on a different video also posted on 2021 and on Destiny's own YouTube channel, so I didn't have to provide a source In the first place because the source that proves it was already there.

Since we can't accept YouTube as a source, and I can't link Destiny's twitter page which he states his location due to rules on sourcing Twitter, and I can't find any actual article directly stating his current residency, I propose either we either agree with my original change and accept reference 29 as a source for my changes, or we remove both the mention of where currently lives, where he had lived in the past, and every source to a YouTube video already on this page.

The reason why we should delete the claim of his current residence is not only because it is obviously currently inaccurate, but because if you look at the sources of the section It is in there is nothing that shows that he ever even lived in or moved to Nebraska in 2020. The sources don't even support his multiple past residences in California.

Since I can't provide a good source of his actual current residence according to the aforementioned users, and there is currently no source provided supporting his supposed current residence as Nebraska or any purported past residences, and the page as of right now has YouTube videos as two references, I think my ask is fair to either accept my original change and or delete these problems with the article. The Wired source says But it’s been good for business: He recently moved to LA from Nebraska, where his 8-year-old son lives, in order to increase his exposure.[1] This source is from Jan 2020. The Mother Jones source says When I visited him in his Glendale, California, apartment, the wiry 31-year-old with...[2] and it's from April 2020. (Presumably the Mother Jones interview took place several months before it was published, so this isn't a discrepancy) I've rephrased this to remove the Florida line and so the article no longer implies this is "current", per MOS:CURRENTLY.
If something is encyclopedically important, we may cite primary source, if necessary, per WP:BLPPRIMARY, but not all primary sources are treated the same. Not all tweets and youtube videos are the same. Among other things, we don't trust clip channels to decide what is and is not encyclopedically important, and that includes the "PKA Clips" channel. We also shouldn't expect editors to sort through hundreds of hours of videos and podcasts to decide this, either. This is why we look for reliable, secondary, and independent sources. I don't specifically object to saying something like "he lives in Miami as of..." but we should figure out a better way to do this, ideally with better sources. Oh, and also please include some timestamps for videos. Grayfell (talk) 06:56, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you recognize that the wire article saying he moved to LA from Nebraska in 2020 is the exact opposite of saying he relocated to Nebraska in 2020 to be closer to his son? Those sources do not support the claim he currently resides in Nebraska, In fact they contradict it. I understand your issues with the source that is a video from the PKA clip channel and believe thats fair. But do you reject using Reference 29, a timestamp of a YouTube video from 2021 on the Destiny YouTube channel of Destiny himself saying he moved to Miami, that is right now on the page as a source for my claim that Destiny currently lives in Miami, Florida? I can not find a secondary or independent source in the form of a reputable article stating he currently lives in Miami. If you object to any YouTube source like @Sideswipe9th that is 100% fair. But in that case, I think it is fair to remove the claim that he lived in Culver City and Huntington Beach (which you already did), the claim that he relocated to Nebraska, and the two YouTube references that is currently on the page. No I did not recognize that, because it was a simple mistake, which I've fixed. I've mentioned Miami using the video as a reliable primary source for this, which is non-controversial basic information.
As I said, not all youtube videos are the same, and all sources are evaluated in context. In general YouTube is not a reliable source, per WP:YOUTUBE, but there are many exception, per WP:YOUTUBE. The PKA Clips vid doesn't appear to be an exception, but this talk page is a good place you could explain why it should be cited if you wanted. One reason I advised you to go to the talk page is because edit summaries do not have room to explain this kind of thing. Another reason was per Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. Grayfell (talk) 18:55, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand and I'm no longer pushing to include the PKA Clips video as a source. I grouped you and a different user who reverted my edit by saying "YouTube is not a reliable source." together because I assumed you agreed with them because of your revert of my edit without elaborating why its unreliable.
Regarding your most recent edit, The Wired article says "he moved to LA from Nebraska, where his 8-year-old son lives, in order to increase his exposure." The article is trying to say his son still lives in Nebraska and that he moved to LA to increase his exposure. I understand how the article is not exactly clear where his son now lives, and how someone can interpret it as saying his son lives in LA, so I made changes to just remove mention of his son in this section. Note that per WP:TPG, the talk page is a record of the discussion. It is often more confusing than helpful to go back and edit comments after people have already responded to them. Grayfell (talk) 02:08, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, all I have edited is deleting with a strikethrough inaccuracies I no longer standby or statements upon retrospect I disagree with. I mistakenly said the sources don't support any past California residency when in fact Glendale was mentioned. I said the source contradicts him living in Nebraska in 2020, when its not necessarily contradictory and it could possibly be the case he moved to Nebraska later that same year. Maybe It was unnecessary and maybe its not how the strikethrough is properly used on Wikipedia so I apologize if it is and won't do it again in the future. Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 16 March 2024[edit]

This section from the "Personal Life" section is incorrect:

"Bonnell has been married twice, with a son from the first marriage."

Destiny's son, Nathan, was not born from his 1st marriage. Destiny has previously stated on stream that he had his son with an ex-girlfriend named Rachel. Destiny's 1st wife's name is Catherine, and he had Nathan after his 1st divorce. Zyh1992 (talk) 00:02, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. A stream is not considered a reliable source for Wikipedia purposes. PianoDan (talk) 21:17, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
