WWGB : You know that introducing a barely-sourced accusation not featured in his own article is plain wrong! Ref (chew)(do) 13:31, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Refsworldlee You did read the Controversy section of his article, right? Especially the part which states "Missler has also acknowledged this plagiarism"? In this video he admits the plagiarism. It matters not whether he was lazy, dumb or dishonest; publishing the words of another without attribution IS plagiarism. If anyone is "plain wrong", it is Missler, not me. WWGB (talk) 00:14, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not our job to examine such intricacies or introduce unnecessary bias into a subject line. Come off it. Ref (chew)(do) 06:21, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Eli Avivi[edit]

Founder of Achzivland, died of pneumonia on the 15th.[1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.10.63.122 (talk) 17:42, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This deserves an answer of some kind. To me, although he had notoriety or fame of a kind, his achievements were not of sufficient notability for me to feel comfortable in posting his name to the Deaths page, but what troubled or puzzled me was the stark lack of mentions when searching his name on the internet. Therefore, as an editor I cannot personally include him, although others might feel more disposed towards him. Ref (chew)(do) 20:43, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Creator and founder of a micronation, of which he is the only resident? I'm gonna say "no" on inclusion. — Wyliepedia @ 23:08, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see a ton of sources online today, quite a few prehumous, too. I can't see any reason to not redlink or pipe him for thirty (twenty) days. Founding a nation, however small, seems bigger than playing US college basketball in 1956 or pointing a Bulgarian TV camera in some other year (no offense to Linn and Govneski). Boyan Petrov[edit]

Include Boyan Petrov or not? The guy is obviously dead, but the body is missing. The search for him was called off after 13 unsuccessful days. Nukualofa (talk) 00:33, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Searches have ended, pending Bulgarian word on continuing. Should he be added here, 5 May was the date reported missing.[2] I vote yes because he completed 10 out 14 eight-thousanders. — Wyliepedia @ 01:20, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But we never do "disappeareds". It's not about notability either, it's about proof of demise in this case. "Obviously" is not where I would want to go. Ref (chew)(do) 03:34, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He shouldn’t be added until declared legally dead or his body is found. Rusted AutoParts 04:14, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alan Bean[edit]

I noticed that someone put that Alan Bean has died but I can not find any verified links confirming this?Bbonds775 (talk) 11:14, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's a hoax. Do not re-add him, whoever considers doing so. Ref (chew)(do) 14:34, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
At least not yet. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:38, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"Not yet". Similar in vein to Boyan Petrov - body found, "not yet". Ref (chew)(do) 21:33, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This section is now redundant, as the subject is confirmed as passed away. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/05/26/514228407/alan-bean-apollo-astronaut-who-walked-on-the-moon-has-died-at-86 Ref (chew)(do) 18:26, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

When I said "not yet", I was thinking of the coming weeks or even years. Didn't know we were only waiting for confirmation. I'll never distrust Tom Hanks again. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:23, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jacky Buchmann[edit]

Currently listed as: Jacky Buchmann (nl), 86, Belgian politician, MP (1974–1977, 1978–1985), Flemish MP (1980–1995), Flemish Minister of Housing (1981–1985), Federal Minister for the Middle Classes, Independents, Small and Medium Enterprises (1985–1988), Senator (1985–1995), Mayor of Kapellen (1982–2001).

Entirely too many positions that consist of nine lines of text on my tiny device, ergo, almost an entire screen! Giving others an opportunity to trim before I do. — Wyliepedia @ 10:03, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Gone for the main national or regional three of MP, Flemish MP and Senator. The Mayoral position is local, and the ministerial appointments would not have occurred without the primary Parliamentary memberships. Change that without fear of 3RR, but keep it Ro3. Ref (chew)(do) 11:08, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Using the supplied source, I am only getting an Error 16 page at http://www.southcoasttoday.com/obituaries/20180526/thomas-helgeland-88. According to Microsoft, this is a geographical IP block - in other words, UK (at least) users will not be able to access the source without using a VPN device. For that reason, I am calling a "better source needed" on it. Ref (chew)(do) 12:06, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(Why a Massachusetts, USA, publication would wish to instigate such a block is beyond me. Ref (chew)(do) 12:07, 27 May 2018 (UTC))[reply]
Your ilk did try to quash their insurrection a couple of centuries ago. Maybe not that simple. In any case, it lets Canadians in and I can tell you it doesn't mention acting at all. "Just" a sailor, singer, social worker, fisherman, deacon, voice teacher, tropical fish breeder, pianist, violinist and model shipwright. Age is correct, CoD only brief illness. InedibleHulk (talk) 15:13, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Long on memories, short on forgiveness then, Massachusetts! Way to go. Ref (chew)(do) 22:48, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First Lady of Louisiana[edit]

An editor has re-added "First Lady of Louisiana" to the death entry for Elaine Edwards. I have two concerns with this addition. First, there is no Wikipedia article for this position, which means that the notability of the position is unclear. Second, the title is "inherited" from one's spouse, meaning that WP:NOTINHERITED needs to be considered. I am interested in the opinions of other editors whether this role should be included in Edwards' entry. Thanks, WWGB (talk) 03:35, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the editor thinks the lead at First Lady, which reads "wife of a non-monarchical head of state", means that her governor-husband was a literal head of a U.S. state? Granted, Edwards was the longest-serving FLL, but that would not be notable if her husband hadn't been a recurring governor, and therefore making mention here irrelevantly inheritably non-inclusive. — Wyliepedia @ 04:01, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think one of the biggest problems with removing the description from her entry here is the massive focus given to the title in her own Wikipedia article. And the "not inherited" issue is weak because she has her own article and does not rely solely on her husband's article to inherit any attributes - they're self-fulfilling. Tackle her article issues and you could better tackle the entry's issues. Ref (chew)(do) 06:22, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
She was approved and posted for Main Page RD and currently still remains there through cleanup of her article, so messing with it at the moment will break it, not that I would because, despite her husband making her de facto FLL and interim senator, that makes her article notable. However, it's not even that extensive of a category. — Wyliepedia @ 05:41, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've done this for the attached reasons. Take it or leave it, not a hill I'll die on. Just like decapitalizing "senator" isn't. InedibleHulk (talk) 18:28, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Take it. Ref (chew)(do) 21:29, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And I will add this is an American convention. First Ladys' have responsibilities in the United States- be it on the Federal or on the State Level. They are expected to entertain traveling dignitaries wives/husbands (lets not be sexist as there have been some First Dudes' too) and they usually have a social cause that they lead on the level akin to Barbara Bush literacy program, Nancy Reagan drug program, etc etc. Other parts of the World I get that its not a big thing, but in the US it is. Dont know why, just the way it is.Sunnydoo (talk) 03:34, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And 1 more thing to add...her piece of work ex-husband is widely regarded as the 2nd most corrupt official ever to serve in Louisiana, which is a very dubious achievement given some of the parties concerned (no one is ever going to pass Huey Long in the US at least). She will qualify for Sainthood on that basis alone. If you need State level corruption, you can always count on Louisiana and Illinois (who has a string of 4 out of 7 former Governors going to jail).Sunnydoo (talk) 03:37, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fun Fact: The most corrupt officials aren't widely regarded as such and don't go to jail, by virtue of their genuinely efficient influence over media, police and witness mortality. InedibleHulk (talk) 20:13, 5 June 2018 (UTC) [reply]
To be clear, this edit summary was in no way meant to disparage the awesome name of Donald Clinton Power, whom I just learned existed. InedibleHulk (talk) 20:24, 5 June 2018 (UTC) [reply]

Mike McCormick and Aaron Smeltzer[edit]

Both the above are listed on 28th as death caused by falling tree. Same ref in each case but when I as a reader go to the reference I get .... Sorry, this content is not available in your region... this is the first time I have come across this are these refs still valid? Thanks Edmund Patrick confer 06:05, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is this the same as Thomas Helgeland above? If so why this sudden "rush" of such events.Edmund Patrick confer 06:07, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
See if any of the following three sources work: Washington Times, USA Today, CNN. Since the current one is local TV, it may not work globally. — Wyliepedia @ 06:23, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Geographical IP block for me too. So I have changed the sources in each of those two entries to ones which will be pretty much universal. We honestly can't keep an "exclusive" hyperlink in there - as many folk as possible from across the world need to be able to verify by visiting the site of the source.
