Edit request on 9 February[edit]

Emer Í Chuív, 93, last surviving daughter of President Éamon de Valera, mother of Éamon Ó Cuív and husband of Professor Brian Ó Cuív. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.40.206.30 (talk) 14:22, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability is not inherited from one's relatives . WWGB (talk) 21:39, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can see that there are a lot of back-and-forth edits as to which specific credits should be listed alongside Whitney Houston's name. That is why I am taking the issue here to the Talk Page. Perhaps we can arrive at some consensus on which singing credits (if any) and which acting credits (if any) should be listed. As it stands now, there are two acting credits (films) listed and zero singing credits (songs) listed. Above all, she was clearly known as a singer, not an actress. Therefore, in this listing, I do not think that her one or two notable films should outweigh her nine or ten notable songs. Of course, we cannot list them all. But, it gives undue weight to list some acting credits and no singing credits, when she was most noted for the latter. So, let's all (try to) agree on something here. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions? Thanks! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:16, 12 February 2012 (UTC))[reply]

"I Will Always Love You" may have been sung first by Dolly Parton, but Houston covered it and it became one of her greatest hits. As for films, The Bodyguard is her highlight. The Preacher's Wife may be her second, but all i know is, "I Will Always Love You" should be in her entry. RAP (talk) 20:18 12 February 2012 (UTC)
"American singer ("I Will Always Love You") and actress (The Bodyguard)" seems best to me - best known song, and most prominent film role.-Kiwipat (talk) 05:08, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree. I believe that the entry currently reads exactly as you proposed. Thanks! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:04, 14 February 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Red Holloway[edit]

I changed Red Holloway's listing from "jazz saxophonist (Etta James)" to "jazz saxophonist, sideman to Etta James". I felt that just putting Etta James' name in parentheses didn't make much sense without some follow-up information. I really feel that removing her name would be better, though, since Holloway was a sideman to many, many great jazz and blues artists (read the obituary which is linked to his listing). Specifying only James makes it seem like he was exclusive to her, which he wasn't. Walter Breitzke (talk) 07:21, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agree . WWGB (talk) 07:36, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WWGB - Thank you! Somebody put "Etta James" back in parentheses and removed "sideman to", so I deleted James' name completely. Again, just putting "jazz saxophonist (Etta James)" is misleading. Holloway played for many, many jazz and blues artists. The obituary from JazzTimes which is included with his listing doesn't even mention James. Plus, it's not like saying "Ringo Starr, drummer (The Beatles)". Etta James was NOT a musical group! Walter Breitzke (talk) 17:45, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lynn Compton[edit]

Lynn Compton seems to be listed twice. Please verify her actual DOD. 198.187.200.254 (talk) 20:08, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lynn "Buck" Compton was male...and it has been corrected.

Edit request on 5 March 2012[edit]

Please clarify the situation regarding the actor Dennis Chinnery. You have him listed as deceased on February 25, but in his Wikipedia article and on this Dr Who-link is says he passed away on the 29th. [2] 194.69.14.111 (talk) 09:23, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All I can find are blogs and fan sites. I'm not even convinced he is dead! WWGB (talk) 09:33, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Per above: Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. mabdul 17:54, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
