Oldest Catholic Church in New York City[edit]

According to my sources, the Church of the Transfiguration (Mott Street, New York, New York) is many years older than University Parish of St. Joseph in Greenwich Village. Where is the reference to the statement about this one?--Marcbela (talk) 14:53, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article now includes two references and an explanatory note for this. Transfiguration's building was an Episcopal church for its first 38 years. —173.68.139.31 (talk) 02:13, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Soup Kitchen[edit]

Church of St. Joseph in Greenwich Village was central to Steve Earle's writing the track "Invisible." from Steve's Album "The Low Highway." Steve and actor Tim Robbins was passing the Church of St. Joseph in Greenwich Village one day. Steve mentioned to Tim. That he had noticed the church now runs a soup kitchen in the basement. Tim told Steve He was an alter boy in the church and there's always been a soup kitchen there. Steve realised that what he was seeing was the line was getting longer. Steve thought that the people were becoming visible. Whereas before they were "Invisible." —81.102.47.218, 23:09, 25 November 2014‎

Nice story! I updated the Soup Kitchen information in the article. —173.68.139.31 (talk) 02:13, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
