Copyedit[edit]

Although the prose is somewhat decent, please give it an audit for contractions ("isn't", "doesn't"), lack of commas ("; however, the" instead of ", however the"), and other issues. — Deckiller 20:49, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Kalina-Ann...[edit]

Should more be said about it? Its got more properties than just being a missile launcher (its grappling cable ability seems noteworthy since both Dante and Lady make use of the feature in the game). SuperSonicTH 13:53, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Details about game mechanics are not within the scope of this type of article. That's what sites like GameFAQs are for. --Boradis 02:06, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Baal and Modeus[edit]

I've moved the subsection about them to the anime article, but I'd still like to make my point clear: these two are different from any other episodic character in the anime, e.g. the King and the demon motorcycle Boradis mentioned, because they are directly related to Sparda and contribute significantly to his back-story, since no other source apparently provides any details about his life before his defection. --Koveras  19:15, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The demon motorcycle is "Red Eye", by the way.Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 17:35, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List?[edit]

I don't mean to be insulting, but I don't know how this got GA. Anyway, what's stopping this from being a list? It has no content besides the list; how is it an article? Thanks. Ashnard Talk Contribs 18:24, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its format is based on Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and that's a FA not a FL. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:24, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Characters of Final Fantasy VIII has Cast creation and influences, Cultural impact, Merchandise, and Reception and criticism. There is nothing here besides the list—it's just a list. Ashnard Talk Contribs 15:34, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Part of the article has been blanked, to be honest I don't care if this is a Featured List or a Good Article there is no difference as long as it helps the Featured Topic. - Caribbean~H.Q. 07:32, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend a move to "List of", but that will inevitably result in loss of GA status (GA doesn't cover lists). I suggest removing some images too; having that many images in one "article" must violate fair-use. Thanks. Ashnard Talk Contribs 15:05, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you've restored the section. I doubt that this itself is sufficient, but there's probably more to add. Thanks. Ashnard Talk Contribs 15:08, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recurring characters addition[edit]

because it's recently been confirmed that both Lady and Trish will be returning in DMC4, it's logical to add them to the list of other recurring characters.WickedKnightAlbel 18:41, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking that too. And in the mean time, I believe Mundus should be moved to the DMC1 section. His appearence in DMC3 is only a cameo, so while it should be mentioned, I don't think it counts enough to be recurrent as the rest of the characters. Maybe Eva should be moved too, since DMC1 is the only game in which she is really relevant.--Alexlayer 20:14, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense to me. I'd do it now, but I'm about to go to sleep. --Boradis 20:15, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Enzo's image[edit]

Should we keep it? His character is not that much important, and we don't know if his appearence in the novels is really the same of the manga. Besides, it takes a lot of unnecesary space. --Alexlayer 13:40, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No one replies? Well, if there's no complaining, I'll remove it eventually. --Alexlayer 03:13, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. Yeah, I agree. Yank it, unless he shows up in something canonical soon, I think he's no more than a footnote --Boradis 09:19, 29 October 2007 (UTC) DMC Task Force[reply]

Lady's VA[edit]

I've noticed that it isn't mentioned anymore. IMDb says it's Kari Wahlgren but I'm not sure. - The 4th Snake 20:24, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The game itself credits Stephanie Cheeva, however at a convention Reuben Langdon (Dante) said that Cheeva did the mocapping, while another woman did the voice acting. Given that the game also credits Adam Clark (Arkham/Jester) as "Adam D Clerk", I think it's possible that the game credits aren't accurate. However, the voice of Lady in the most current DMC4 trailer sounds like the DMC3 Lady, so perhaps we'll get this settled when more info on that game is available. --Boradis 09:18, 29 October 2007 (UTC)DMC Task Force[reply]

New update![edit]

Hello all wikipedian fellowers and Devil May Cry task force just wanna say that i added that Agnus is the main antagonist of Devil May Cry 4 here is the link http://www.mediafire.com/?f1sxh4qztng Rickengothic December 18, 2007 12:30 UTC DMC Task Force

Hmm. Problem is, I don't have a mediafire.com account so I didn't see the video, and I'm sure plenty of the readership doesn't either. Do you have a reference that's in a text form? -- Boradis (talk) 01:36, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A reference that requires membership to read isn't considered "reliable" but if a official announcement was made then finding a report of this on Gamespot of IGN must be easier, otherwise chances are it may be gossip. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:08, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Rickengothic was kind enough to get us a YouTube link to the video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nrXKoQu_Anc), which I just watched. It does indeed contain some spoilers (and is TOTALLY AWESOME! Ok, geek mode off), however I think it's far from certain that anything in these trailers is what it appears to be. Trailers are produced to excite and mislead, so unless we have something in writing from Capcom saying that Agnus is the main villain, or that the katana is Vergil's Yamato, we can't draw any conclusions. It's against the point of Wikipedia after all. --Boradis (talk) 10:01, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I figure this would be the place to ask. I can't find anything on Japanesse symbolism. But I remember and this is going to show how some age. But in one of the playstation 2 or 1 underground thing. There was an interview I think. Or else it was in some in magazine and I can't remeber which. Maybe game informer or something else. But they said that the reason that Dante wore a long red coat was that in Japan the good guy wore red and the bad guy wore blue. Gloria section[edit]

Is there any point in keeping Gloria’s section under DMC4? If Arkham and Jester can't have separate sections (for being technically the same person), then there isn't much reason for her to have one. WickedKnightAlbel (talk) 08:56, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Having a Gloria section seperate from Trish while combining Arkham and Jester seems fairly pointless. I'd say combining Gloria with Trish would be a good idea. I'd do it myself, but with my luck I'd be banned from editing for doing it. then later someone else would do it, and everyone would applaud. Meh, I'm going off-topic. Merge in demons article[edit]

That article seems to have no chance of becoming encyclopedic, best merge what is keepable to this one. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 17:45, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's already better than this article.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 19:56, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd agree with the merge, but the only demons that should be on this list should be the ones that have a role on the games' story, like Phantom and Gryfon in DMC1, maybe Nightmare too, or the six gate-keepers of DMC3. The rest, better leave them out. They are definitly not notable enough. --Alexlayer (talk) 23:10, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Better than this article? if that article was taken to AFD it would be deleted, its not encyclopedic and its completely lacking out of universe information, its very hard to find such information for the main characters, never mind the demons. I doubt that there is something that is useful to merge here, but that article shouldn't exist. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, its probably either deletion or merger here, so I vote for merger, then improvement of the character article can ramp up. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:20, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is there really something worth merging there? - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:41, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how many of the demons are critical characters, but perhaps a bit of detail might be included, as the article still seems far from FA status. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 01:46, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt that any of the demons can be considered "critical characters" other than those already listed here. This article has enougth out of universe content at this moment to begin moving towards Featured List, the format will certainly make it pass as a list easier. As a side note does anyone have a objection to removing the anime characters? those are already listed in the anime's article and it seems kind of pointless to have them listed twice, not to mention that it opens some space for future games. - Caribbean~H.Q. 06:25, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No objections? if none appear I will redirect the page here tommorow. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes there are objections, I'm objecting right now. Its a young article and people are working on improving it. No, some of them won't be considered critical but I was under the impression that an encyclopedia was a repository of knowledge and information. If they're any less important than a cerberus in Resident Evil or an...Iron Giant in Final Fantasy, then sure I could see your point. But they aren't, so I don't, so you won't be merging that page come tomorrow. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 04:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Delete it and redirect. That article has no value as a Wikipedia entry -- its entire purpose is that of a game guide, and Wikipedia is NOT a game guide. Those characters not listed here are of no real consequence to the fiction, they are simply gameplay obstacles. All noteworthy characters are already listed on this page. -- Boradis (talk) 11:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was created to hold information on the denizens of the DMC world and not as a game guide. If it were a game guide it'd tell you how to defeat them but instead tells you what species there are. I feel that it should be kept also.

Restructuring[edit]

I don't know what anyone elses opinions are but the current layout doesn't seem to work right. There is a separate section for anime characters and yet the character who has only appeared in novels and a game manual is classed in the same league as a recurring character. Vergil shouldn't really be classed as such either. He's always been an antagonist and wasn't really Vergil except for 1.1 games.

Having sections for one character such as Arkham and Mundus also seems kinda pointless while having a leading character like Nero down near the bottom of the page also doesn't seem to work. Also, if Vergil is classed as recurring then it would be fair to class Mundus' cameo in DMC3 as recurring too.

Therefore I recommend two options. There is alphabetical organisation, but I'm not sure that having Dante in particular as not at the top of the list would work. So instead of hte current sectioning I'd consider maybe a recurring/leading characters which Trish and Lady could also be classed as and which would allow Nero to also take position. Supporting characters such as Kyrie, minor characters and antagonists/villains or something similar. If Vergil appears in a 3rd game it might be fair to class him as a leading character but as it is he has always been a bad/morally grey guy and I definetly wouldn't put him up there with the rest of the recurring characters and...Enzo.

EDIT: And I think Eva has only appeared in one game.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 19:56, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The former format was messed when DMC 4 was released and somebody moved several characters to the "recurring characters" section, I am now trying a new format. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:52, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks better but I still think Vergil should be classed as an antagonist. He's been a bad guy in 2 games. Might be more fitting to call it primary characters.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 01:53, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Was just reading and wasn't Sparda's power locked away when he sealed the gate and not when he died? That's why he looked like he does in the first game witht he purple coat and monacle. Still demonic but sacrificed that stuff and sealed it away to lock the portal.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 02:04, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We need to return the organization of this page to grouping the entries by game, which is the relevant real-world criteria. I'll set about re-doing it soon. --Boradis (talk) 12:27, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't work at all as a main character like Nero shouldn't be at the end of the page, having one entry, i.e. Arkham is not particularly sensible and it doesn't account for characters that appear in multiple entries and is more like a first appearance style than an appropriate page of important characters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkwarriorblake (talkcontribs) 19:13, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Both formats can be used and are considered encyclopedic (see List of characters in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow and Characters of Kingdom Hearts) but at this moment I prefer the current one due to the problems that DMC 4's release brought, particulary the fact that we were left with two one-character sections. - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:40, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. --Boradis (talk) 05:30, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1Up refs[edit]

Refs 3 and 41 point to 1Up articles that don't seem to contain the relevant quotes. According to multiple other sites, the 1Up articles did say the relevant quotes, but if they're on some second page I can't seem to access it.

Is there a second page to the 1Up articles, or did they trim it for some unknown reason? How do you access this second page, if it exists? Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 08:40, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1 up is currently reformating several pages, (including this) it appears the interview was temporally relocated (note that its listed under DMC instead of DMC 4) and its only displaying 1 of 4 pages, they certainly won't claim that they have a " Massive interview with key dev. team members!" with only the game's producer, in any case if they aren't yet fixed by the moment the changes on the website conclude a e-mail can be sent to inform them of the situation. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:39, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sparda[edit]

Is it ever explicitly stated that Sparda is dead? I don't remember anything which points directly to it, apart from his absence and the fact that he wasn't there to save Eva, though that doesn't automatically mean he's dead. Is it something mentioned in DMC2 or DMC4 (which I haven't played)? —Yar Kramer (talk) 03:43, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually if you pay attention to DMC1 the intro specifies that Sparda kept harmony in the human world until his death- Gerkhb5

Anime[edit]

Not that I care that much but why are we including novel characters like Enzo and not the anime characters?Darkwarriorblake (talk) 20:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Especially since the novels aren't canon and the anime IS. Although Enzo is in the manga, so he's a canonical character. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.16.37.71 (talk) 19:40, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Um, where is it stated that the novels aren't canon and the anime is? And the manga is an entirely separate entity from the anime. Also, Enzo specifically makes an "appearance" in the manual for the first Devil May Cry ... —Yar Kramer (talk) 21:09, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The anime characters were listed twice, personally I think that Enzo should be dropped, he isn't particulary notable. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:45, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well the anime characters appear in like 12 episodes of the Anime and generally play a large sub-role so they should be in here if Argosax and Enzo and Matier and the other non-playable characters are here.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 22:00, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vergil's role[edit]

Why is Vergil among the "Primary characters" section instead of the "Main antagonists" one? So far, regardless of whatever the fans might speculate about his intentions, he has always appeared as an antagonist, with the only expection of DMC3's Mission 19. But just that, or the fact that he was a playable chararter in the Special Edition, doesn't really make him a Primary Character, now does it?

I suggest moving him, unless there's any objection. --Alexlayer (talk) 22:37, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No objection? Okay, then.--Alexlayer (talk) 21:09, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Credo's Voice Actor[edit]

On IMDb it says hes voiced by Dan Southworth who dose mo-cap for credo. (VA for vergil in DMC3) but people are saying hes voiced by T.J. Rotolo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkdoom3000 (talkcontribs) 20:48, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anime characters[edit]

Wait, shouldn't they stay on this page, or be merged? I don't quite understand why they should be kept on separate pages. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 20:29, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It makes absolutely no sense to exclude them. King Zeal (talk) 23:22, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vergil[edit]

The sentence regarding Mundus brainwashing him strikes me as a fan theory and not official information. Plot wise, Vergil's presence in the first game was completely glossed over, with no explanation as to how or why he was working for Mundus. Further complicating things are retcons in the third game. The first game seems to indicate that Vergil was killed along with Dante's mother, which is not the case in DMC3. For another thing, Vergil runs away from Dante when he sees his amulet, but we see in DMC3 that he has no love lost for his brother, so it doesn't really make sense. I know the details are unclear, but I think his profile should be modified to remove speculation.--24.255.171.220 (talk) 16:07, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What you need to remember is that DMC3 is a prequel, when you make a prequel no one pays attention to the details of the previous installments. As for Vergil being brain washed I don't get 2 things. One is how could Nelo Angelo reveal himself to be Vergil if Mundus erased his memory? Second is why would Mundus have to brain wash Vergil? Woulkdn't Vergil willing join Mundus just to gain power? please clarfy - gerkhb5 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gerkhb5 (talkcontribs) 02:13, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I really can't believe this has a 'Good Article' listing - absolutely no pictures of said characters are present. It's just a mile of text, and not something anyone would reference.Saintvlas22 (talk) 15:28, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Images are irrelevant to the "listing". There used to be a share of them here, but they were removed according to policy. - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:05, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merging Dante[edit]

Currently, the first paragraph of Dante's conception and creation section is just a general description of the series, and the majority of his reception information is also about the series. Much of the reception in this article is about the character, and the merchandise information is also already covered here. Unless some more actual information specifically about the character is available, the article really should just be merged into this one to avoid redundancy. TTN (talk) 18:54, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose While I'll agree the Dante article needs a little expanding, merging it into here isn't going to do anything really at all. Both articles are fine as separate entities.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 20:32, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with it if it's expanded, but this has nothing to do with "doing anything." Dante's article is very subpar in the area of real world information, and half of the information it does have is already in this article, so if the information cannot be expanded upon, it doesn't deserve an article. TTN (talk) 20:42, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose It has sufficient references from outside the game. Isn't the information supposed to be about the character, considering it's an article about him?--ZXCVBNM (TALK) 07:33, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nero/Virgil relation source?[edit]

"It was recently confirmed that Nero is in fact Vergils son."? Why is there no source cited for this? I'd think it would be a pretty big deal, considdering the importance of bloodlines in the DMC plot. Last I heard, all we had was an in-game quote possibly connecting Nero to Sparda, not Virgil. So could we get a citation? Yeah i dont know about this one. i have heard at least three solid citations that nero is related to sparda, butnot ecxactly to vergil. but how else would all this piece together.--AkuTenshiiZero (talk) 02:47, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • The only source cited for this comes from one page in the novel, not in in the games themselves, even the DMC wiki admits this. It ignores the fact that Vergil wasn't that type of character and he would been between 14 and 16 years old to have had Nero with some conveniently unnamed woman...

DmC Characters[edit]

Can we add Kat and Phineas as characters? Also can we add other Devil May Cry antagonists like Phantom, Griffon, and Nightmare I mean they do appear in two games, also the bosses in the dmc series?--Spidervenom123 (talk) 21:56, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing[edit]

Hi. This article is confusing because of its speaks a language that only makes sense to one who has played the video games. For example, "Griifon appears alongside phantom being used as parts of Argosax's shell" makes no sense at all. What Argosax? What is shell? How can a giant bird appear as shell?

There are other instances. What is a demonic hand? In other words, how can I recognize one when I see one? What is dreamrunner? What is Limbo? Is it a city, a state of mind or character of the video game? Why it is sometimes in lowercase?

"Vergil's sword responds to Nero's call and grants him his Devil Trigger form in the same fashion that Dante's sword, Rebellion, does for Dante." I neither know how does Vergil's sword responds nor know how does Rebellion respond. Do they respond the same way a dog respond to his master's call? Do they come barking?

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 11:22, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vergil is the main antagonist of Devil May Cry 3[edit]

The game begins with setting off to stop Vergil's plans and ends on thwarting Vergil's plans. Vergil is the main opposition to Dante's goal. How is he a secondary antagonist? That would be, Arkham. Arkham manipulated everyone, sure, but it still ends with Vergil being the ultimate antagonist and him being the root cause for Devil May Cry 3's events. Basically all Arkham did was manipulate the situation that Vergil willingly caused anyway. Roxas255 11:43, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Roxas255 (talk) 11:47, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
