Renamed to Amalie Arena[edit]

Looks like the Forum has been renamed and the article will need to be updated / moved after the official announcement: See: Tampa Bay Times Forum has a new name: Amalie Arena (http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/tampa-bay-lightning-plans-major-announcement-this-afternoon/2195910). Name of the building[edit]

So I have a couple of questions. While the St. Pete Times' name changed occurred on Jan. 1, 2012 (though you could argue it happened as soon as printing was done on Dec. 31, 2011, but that's another debate), the Bolts had a ceremony unveiling the new name of the building on Dec. 31. There was a temporary banner that said St. Pete Times Forum that was taken down to reveal Tampa Bay Times Forum right as doors opened for that night's game. So it's beyond even the technicality of when did the newspaper truly change its name, as an actual NHL game was played at this building with Tampa Bay Times Forum signage outside and inside on Dec. 31, 2011.

My concern is it would be wildly inaccurate to change the infobox and the lead to say the name changed in 2011, as that implies the name was changed prior to the 2011-12 NHL season (similar to the name changes in 2002 and 2014, respectively). But specifying this specific change occurring on Dec. 31, 2011, seems too clunky. Does anybody have thoughts? What's up on the page is inaccurate and needs to be changed in some manner.

My other question regards the current name. The arena stylizes its name as AMALIE Arena on all references. Obviously, first reference should not be what the brand wants. However, looking at pages such as Staples Center and Fox_Broadcasting_Company, there is obviously precedent for mentioning that the arena brands itself as AMALIE Arena at some point. Again, how should this be handled? 75.115.132.148 (talk) 04:40, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see it as important enough to mention that the building said "Tampa Bay Times Forum" on December 31, 2011, but maybe add it as a footnote or something. I changed it to note that it is officially stylized as "AMALIE Arena" like the Staples Center page does.
Maybe not in the lead or infobox, especially for the sake of brevity in both, but just a quick glance at the "History" section of the page shows it needs a major cleanup, especially regarding the naming rights. It mentions that naming rights "were then sold to the St. Petersburg Times," though makes no mention of when or even what the newspaper elected to name the building (they were adamant at the time that it was not the "St. Petersburg Times Forum," but simply the "St. Pete Times Forum." The next reference of the building's full name (not its former nickname of "Forum," which I believe should be removed on all references given it no longer is called this by locals) is, "In 2010, the Tampa Bay Times Forum was ranked as the fourth busiest arena in the United States." But, as we know, the building wasn't known as "Tampa Bay Times Forum" until at least Dec. 31, 2011 (though, given the name change was announced in November... but I'm being really picky at this point, I suppose). So that sentence is just historically inaccurate as it's written. In fact, that section never even mentions the name change from "St. Pete Times Forum" to "Tampa Bay Times Forum," so as far as that section goes, there never was a "St. Pete Times Forum." I think, given this messy section, it might be a good idea to give it a full rewrite (perhaps even cleanup or eliminate the "Events" section, too, as it may be better served as a "Notable Events" list, and I'm not sure some of those events currently listed would meet the notable test (like the canceled Magic-Heat preseason game from 11 years ago). Maybe in a rewritten "History" section, the full date of the name change could be given, since this particular name change was unique as far as naming rights go for arenas, at least in my opinion.75.115.132.148 (talk) 18:35, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, the article definitely needs some cleanup. Feel free to work on it if you'd like.Geolojoey (talk) 22:16, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
