Which war?[edit]

It is unclear what war he was in-the Polish-Ukrainian War of 1918 or the Polish-Soviet War of 1919? The article said he drove trucks to the front in 1918 and then went back to school. Thank you-RFD (talk) 23:00, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

He should be listed as a WW1 era veteran. This is because WW1 did not end until June 28,1919.He was involved in the war in 1918. The armistice to stop fighting was on November 11,1918 but the official peace treaty happened in June of 1919. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 00:29, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My concern is narrowing this discussion to what war in 1918 was Alexander Imich was in driving trucks in Poland to the war front-the Polish-Ukrainian War of 1918 or Polish-Soviet War of 1919. The wars were close to one another in the timeline. I am respecting the consensus concerning discussion about the World War I veterans or World War I era veterans. Remember Imich said he was involved with a conflict in Poland and never mentioned WW I. Thank you-RFD (talk) 10:40, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Presumptively, as written it would be the Polish-Soviet since it states Russians and Bolsheviks, which if it implies a specific Russia must be Great Russia. 76.180.168.166 (talk) 01:48, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Since the source we have (the book Mystic Souls by Lyn Harper) says he served as a truck driver in the war against Russian bolsheviks as a 15 year old in 1918 and the Polish-Soviet War didn't start until february 1919, I e-mailed Dr Imich in 2010 to get a clarification. There was a war between the short lived West Ukrainian Peoples Republic and Poland, the Polish–Ukrainian War starting in november 1918, so I asked what he remembered. Here's his answer: "History was always my weak point because of bad memory. I served in an Automobile division of the Polish army in Czestochowa driving a Packard truck (that I cannot identify from the pictures you send) in 1918, so it must have been war with Ukraine." Unfortunately personal communication can't be used as a source, so even if it really must have been the Polish - Ukrainian war, Imich earlier misremembering quoted by Harper that it was the Russians he fought against may have to stand as we must use available sources.
