Request for changes on the 5SOS Wikipedia page

They have a new UK tour beginning in 2014, as stated on http://5sos-official.tumblr.com/live . They have another music video, "Wherever You Are", that was released earlier this fall (http://www. youtube .com/watch?feature=player_profilepage&v=2GRtFC8nTag) . I think their Youtube link should be there (if it is, I apologize, but if not http://youtube.com/user/hemmo1996 .) Their profile picture should change, as they've gotten older and look different. They're categorized as pop rock as well, but they call themselves pop punk and/or punk rock as referenced in several tweets, videos, and livestreams. If you could mention how supportive their fans (the 5SOS Fam) are, and how kind they are to every single one of us, that would be amazing. Thank you for you time, and I know how much they appreciate the fact that they actually have a Wikipedia page.[Also please don't add Niall Horan to the band like they're seperate from 1D clearly.] Ashtonirwinded (talk) 03:22, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

5 Seconds of Summer is a punk rock band not a boyband.

Alyssagarza (talk) 06:21, 2 January 2014 (UTC) 5 seconds of summer are not punk rock nor a boy band they are more pop rock than anything, looking at their inspirations, but they should be classified as punk pop rock since they're not fully punk rock since punk rock is more of Transplants, Rage Against The Machine, etc. The band are Pop rock, but to make them happy we should put Punk Pop Rock since they are more close to that. Alyssagarza (talk) 06:21, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Please change 5 seconds of summer's music genres. The music genres of 5 seconds of Summer include; pop, pop rock, or "bubblegum pop rock". It currently says that 5 seconds of summer are "pop punk", this is very inaccurate to the point where its embarrassing. 5 seconds of summer do not have any of the characteristics pop punk music has. Pop punk music requires the following:

  • Anxious or stressed vocals
  • Usually none to little guitar, drum, or vocal solos (such as in pop music)
  • Very intense and dramatic metaphors; not literal

There are many other reasons but I don't want to waste any more of my time or yours, but people have started to make jokes about 5 seconds of summer because they are labeled "pop punk" by this page.

The above is located under the "tours" heading of the wikipedia page for 5 seconds of summer. The issue I found is a technicality. Canada is in North America and does not need to be specified. Thus it should read: 5 Seconds of Summer announced in early March 2014, that they will be supporting One Direction on their Where We Are Tour across North America,5 Seconds of Summer (1 March 2014). Pop-punk? I don't think 5sos fits into the same category as The Wonder Years or The Story So Far. not even All Time Low to be honest. We go by published accounts of the band. Cory Midgarden of MTV wrote that they are pop-punk: “New York, make some noise! We’re 5 Seconds of Summer,” the Australian pop-punk band exclaimed as they took the stage Tuesday night, as if anyone in attendance needed the introduction.
That's not a deep analysis of their sound, but "pop-punk" is a label applied in passing, so we take our cue from that. Binksternet (talk) 13:31, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

On the 5 Seconds of Summer wikipedia page, it says that, "5 Seconds of Summer are an Australian pop punk[1] and pop rock[2] boy band.[3][4][5][6]." I am asking you on behalf of all 5 Seconds of Summer fans to take boy band out of that description and please replace it with something like "punk rock." 5 Seconds of Summer are not a boy band, they are alternative rock, and have said in many interviews that they do not like being called a boy band and do not want to be called a boy band because they are. Many fans, including myself, are offended when 5 Seconds of Summer (5sos for short) are called a boy band because we feel that the bands' feelings and wants are being disregarded. For these reasons I ask that you please changed boy band to rock band. Thank you. 70.139.55.33 (talk) 23:24, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

5 seconds of summer is an Australian pop or pop rock band. This needs to be changed because Pop-punk is a subgenre of punk that is categorized by allegorical lyrics, small gigs(DIY shows), strained vocals, signed by a small record label, complex instrumentals, and a certain demographic of fans. 5 seconds of summer don't fit anything of what Pop punk music is. They're signed to Capitol Records(major record label), which is what "pop" or popular music is. http://www.spinorbinmusic.com/2014/05/10/5-seconds-of-summer-is-hardly-pop-punk-but-does-that-matter http://propertyofzack.com/post/84894215283/5-seconds-of-summer-wont-mainstream-ify-pop-punk-but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_punk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_music https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubblegum_pop

Um idk how to code so this might not work but anyway, what i wanted to say is that i think on "related pages" or whatever it's called there should also be Hot Chelle Rae because they toured together and All Time Low because they've worked together and the influenced 5SOS' music and Blink 182 aswell since they're a big influence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Therearentanyusernamesleft (talkcontribs) 17:57, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Brief description of band members

Hi, may I suggest for the expansion of the band members section, just like what is presented in the articles such as The Vamps and The Wanted? I am also writing for Tagalog Wikipedia and I created the 5 Seconds of Summer article there, describing briefly each member's personal information. I can expand this section and I have reliable sources for this. How can I submit it to English Wikipedia? Thanks in advance for your response. Geoffbits (talk) 05:40, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

My issue with doing this is the fact that much of the information in The Vamps' band members section, for instance, could easily be merged with the body. For the more relevant information regarding the members of 5SOS here, such as that members met each other at Trinity Christian School, that is already covered by the body in the section about their formation. The other information, such as Clifford's knowledge in four different languages, and their relatives with no other wiki notability than, well, being their relatives, is straying a bit close to trivial info for my taste. If consensus by other editors is, however, reached to include it, I would recommend avoiding putting each person's age or substituting an appropriate template to avoid having to constantly update the section. I think I read something about the specific member who came up with the name (my Tagalog is konting rusty), that would qualify as good information to add however. ~Helicopter Llama~ 17:08, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. However though, I still think that there is enough reason to expand the band members section even if it is a brief description of each member, because they have some information that might be of interest to readers. In this section I think we can put some relevant information before they were formed as a band, such as in Ashton Irwin's case of being in another band before 5 Seconds of Summer, or Calum Hood being chosen to represent Australia in football. As for the age of each member, I patterned it after the article List of One Direction members. I hope you'll consider these suggestions. Geoffbits (talk) 04:49, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Reference for #1 in 11 countries

For the last line of 2nd paragraph, "Their self-titled debut studio album was released in June 2014, which peaked #1 in 11 countries.", you may use this as a reliable reference: https://au.tv.yahoo.com/x-factor/25195303/5sos-the-script-boyzone-top-4-live-decider-special-guests/#page1. I have used this also as a reference in the article's Tagalog counterpart. Thanks! Geoffbits (talk) 13:14, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

"Boyband" ??

Urban dictionary defines a boy band as a group of boys who DO NOT PLAY INSTRUMENTS as you can see here http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=boy%20band And Collins dictionary defines a boy band as an all-male vocal pop group as you can see here http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/boy+band

5 Seconds of Summer is not a boyband, as they all play instruments and write their own music. And we have already established that they are not pop, and pop music is also a term used with boybands.

Please change "boyband" to "band".

Thank you xx — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.27.247.91 (talk) 01:33, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

they are infact a boyband.. urban dictionary isn't always right and there are many different definitions for boyband. if they're in the same magazines as one direction, they are considered a boyband. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boobookittysuck (talkcontribs) 23:23, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

Grammar mistake in the very first sentence...

I stumbled across this page and noticed a grammatical error in the first sentence.

"5 Seconds of Summer (also known as 5SOS) are an Australian pop rock and pop punk band."

No, it is an Australian pop rock punk band.

Eldavar (talk) 06:06, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

There are two different styles involved here, primarily known as UK and US styles. In the UK, bands "are". In the US, a band "is". In most things, Australia follows UK style. Binksternet (talk) 16:33, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

genre???

who ever says that 5sos is a punk rock, pop punk, or even pop rock is wrong. they are not even in the same level as many bands who are actually in the genre. one day they may be but right now they aren't. just consider them a boyband until they show what genre they truly are. they just started out so it will take some time for them to figure out what type of music they want to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boobookittysuck (talkcontribs) 23:27, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

So what musical genre is ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.118.76.247 (talk) 23:24, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

It's about the music not length of the band and they've definitely got pop punk / rock vibes in the majority of their songs, and media agree. (and have been cited). Nitromaster (talk) 15:00, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

New awards section

I've merged in the information from List of awards and nominations received by 5 Seconds of Summer as best as possible and put it into one table. It's my first time doing a table of this nature in such a large format, so it absolutely does need some fixing from someone familiar with how to merge some of the fields (mostly the nominations and wins fields for the same awards). However this should take care of the repeated re-creation of the awards page in a separate entry and allow for it to be further expanded. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:54, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Under the genre section, 5 seconds of summer are listed as pop rock and pop punk. I believe that the pop punk tag should be removed, and replaced by just pop because if you listen to 5 seconds of summer, you will see that they are not pop punk. Listen to proper pop punk bands such as the story so far, blink 182, the wonder years, real friends, man overboard and knuckle puck, please do it, and then listen to a 5 seconds of summer song. they sound nothing alike. 5 seconds of summer are a decent pop rock band, but that is all. they are not pop punk. I think 5 seconds of summers' genre is more pop shit rather than pop rock they have stated it on numerous occasions how they are a punk rock. They occasionally call themselves punk rock when really they are very ridiculous band copiers who must be stopped.

they are not punk pop, they are a pop rock boy band, because they talk about love in all their songs, and are teenagers, yes they play instruments, but in your boy band description it says A boy band (or boyband) is loosely defined as a vocal group consisting of young male singers, usually in their teenage years or in their twenties at the time of formation,[1] singing love songs marketed towards young females.[2] Being vocal groups, most boy band members do not play musical instruments, either in recording sessions or on stage. the jonas brothers played instruments and were a boy band. Pop punk and pop rock genre

Of course the band is pop punk genre; many sources say so. A large number of sources also call the band pop rock, and the Los Angeles Times calls them both pop punk and pop rock. Biographer Joe Allan says they are a blend of pop punk and pop rock. By comparison, far fewer sources say the band is a power pop band.

(Note that band genres must be based on sources that describe the band, not sources that describe songs or albums. Per WP:V, the source must say that 5SOS is a certain genre, or the source must call them a whatever genre band.)

So I think "pop punk" should be displayed first in the infobox, and listed first in the musical style section. After that is "pop rock" because of the large number of sources. After that comes "power pop" with much less sourcing. Binksternet (talk) 21:21, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Agreed on this. Their newer album seems to shift away from the term "pop rock" according to multiple media sources but makes sense to leave it there for their earlier work. Nitromaster (talk) 22:18, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

POP OR POP ROCK OR POP PUNK

5SOS is not pop. Where you cite them as a pop band if you click on the citation it comes up as pop rock. Please change pop to pop rock or pop punk because they are more than just bubblegum pop. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.27.247.91 (talk) 20:34, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Just because they claim to be punk rock or pop punk, they are not. She Looks So Perfect and other songs are clearly pop.
