Restoration of relegation round[edit]

Not quite sure how to write it up. But the relegation round wasn't held during 2021 & 2022 championship tournaments. GoodDay (talk) 06:26, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

maybe a brief note that promotion and relegation has resumed after a two year hiatus.18abruce (talk) 21:26, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Final standings[edit]

The final standings table does not make sense. The table contains the total number of wins, losses, points etc. for the whole tournament, but the final position is not decided based on these numbers. Instead, the position is based on the result of the medal/relegation games, and for the other teams, it is based on the position, points and goal difference only from the group stage. Right now, Finland appear as 5th with 7 points, and Slovakia as 6th with 8 points (also counting an overtime loss in the quarter finals). This is quite confusing (although completely correct), and the data in the table is of no help to understand the final ranking of the teams. Therefore, I suggest that we remove the columns "Pld" through "Pts", since these have no relevance for this table. And possible add the critera that are being used to determine the final stands: group position, group points, group goad difference etc. Or just add a column "Rank", referring to the table in the beginning of the playoff round section with the reseeding after the group stage. Further to Kildor's point, the table as it appears right now shows Latvia in 9th with 7 points, when 6 of those points were from the relegation round wins vs. Austria. This doesn't make sense in terms of the final standings table........... PKT(alk) 20:16, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would say that encyclopedias like 'Total Hockey' and 'The Complete Guide to the Olympics' have historically done their hockey standings in this way. However it is always seemed kind of pointless and confusing so I am not sure why we began doing it here a few years ago (2017 I think). I think it seems to present trivia that distracts from the facts so any changes to the format of presentation would be welcome.18abruce (talk) 21:13, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
