There was a previous collapse, which is already covered in the main article. Plus, there have been others (Connecticut). Famartin (talk) 15:58, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the title should be redirected to Mianus River Bridge (the CT collapse mentioned above, and the most notable one off the top of my head). LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 16:01, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The problems is the article creator gave it the wrong name. This was an overpass, not a bridge. Abductive (reasoning) 08:02, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I mean, an overpass is a type of bridge, if you wanna be technical about it. LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 02:12, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - I would redirect this for now unless the information becomes large enough that it warrants splitting out. And if it does need to be split out, a more specific title would be needed like 2023 Interstate 95 bridge collapse. Dough4872 16:03, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - article now has enough information that a standalone article is justified. Dough4872 02:17, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - This article is currently a stub that could be adequately covered in the I-95 (PA) page, per WP:NOTNEWS and WP:NOPAGE. It could be re-split if the collapse becomes notable on its own, like the Interstate 85 bridge collapse in Atlanta was. Also, the term "Interstate 95 bridge collapse" is extremely ambiguous, as the Mianus River Bridge collapse (as LilianaUwU mentions above) is actually a more viable target for the term "Interstate 95 bridge collapse". – Epicgenius (talk) 16:58, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for now - I would wait until more information comes out later. If the article don't get enough information then it could be merged. If merged, I made a subsection for the collapse in the history section.Cwater1 (talk) 20:45, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Neutral - I would support, especially since there were no significant injuries or loss of life, however CNN reports "Collapse will have ‘significant impacts’ on region" which while a headline, makes good points on the relevancy of a standalone article. --Wikiwillz (talk) 21:58, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support merge to Interstate 95 in Pennsylvania per WP:NOTNEWS. In my opinion, keeping the stub separate because it may become more notable falls into WP:CRYSTAL territory. Also concurring with other editors that the title needs to change – redirect to either Mianus River Bridge or a disambiguation page. Wracking talk! 22:27, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for now - This incident is going to blockade a major thoroughfare for months to come. --Jax 0677 (talk) 23:07, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - This incident is similar to the I-85 Bridge collapse that is in a separate article. This collapse will have significant economic impact and until the investigation is complete the cause will remain largely unknown. User:jopgaard 01:31, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for now. If this does not stay in the national news cycle past June 16 I will change to support. –Fredddie 03:42, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Why that day? QuarioQuario54321 (talk) 16:16, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I figured we could give it a Monday-thru-Friday run and then go from there. –Fredddie 04:27, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support So far this accident appears virtually identical to the 2007 bridge collapse at the MacArthur Maze. Using that accident as precedent, there is no dedicated article for the accident, but it is covered as a section in the history of that interchange. I see no reason to handle this case any differently. I may change my mind if later developments reveal there is more to the story, as is the case with the Connecticut and Georgia examples mentioned by others. Dave (talk) 04:02, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as I have managed to expand the article past the 1,500 character limit as a general rule of thumb for a standalone article. There's more to mine out of sources such as Washington Post and CNN, which suggests the article can be expanded / improved further. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:54, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. This a notable event that warrants a stand alone article. The title should be corrected and updated to show the year of the event. FFM784 (talk) 14:31, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose I expect there to be far more info coming so we might as well for the aftermath and reconstruction QuarioQuario54321 (talk) 14:44, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for now The collapse just happened yesterday, so, as is the case with the many tornado outbreak pages I contribute to, information about the event will end up coming in rapidly eventually as more info about the situation becomes available. Additionally, as was said above, the event is similar to the I-85 bridge collapse in that this collapse will have significant impacts on the economy (this is I-95 after all) and an investigation into how a bridge on such an important highway collapsed due to a truck fire will become EXTREMELY important to note. As a result, I think it's too early for a redirect in my opinion. ChessEric 17:58, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Additional Note: I would also like to add that the collapse happened at the PA 73 exit, which provides access to the Tacony–Palmyra Bridge. The closure of I-95 also affects traffic at the Betsy Ross Bridge and exit 32, which provides access to the Northeast Philadelphia Airport AND Holy Family University, is closed. This is a major incident with the governor pushing for a disaster declaration. Its truly a miracle that there were no casualties here, but the ramification of such an event will be long-lasting and it will take MONTHS to get this segment open again. This really should stay. ChessEric 18:08, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another Note: As noted below, this is now a fatal collapse. ChessEric 13:50, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: It's part of the I-95's interstate's history and to not mention it on the main article is disingenuous. Rager7 (talk) 01:51, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose This was a fatal accident that will have a long lasting impact on travel between a number of states (per references). Juneau Mike (talk) 01:37, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for now. The incident is expected to have long-lasting impacts and we have also separate pages for similar incidents like Interstate 85 bridge collapse. It's notable enough at the moment. --Mhhossein talk 19:12, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why did the driver crashed the tanker? New hordak from 2018 (talk) 21:22, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. Financial times reported link to inflation:
The US transportation secretary warned Sunday’s collapse of part of a major road on the country’s east coast will push up the price of goods in the region as shipping costs increase.
Of the 16,000 vehicles daily that would normally travel that affected section of the I-95 highway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, about 8 per cent are trucks, Pete Buttigieg told a press conference on Tuesday.
“What a lot of people don’t always see behind those inflation numbers is the importance of our supply chains,” he said. “If a route is disrupted or if it’s longer or if trucks have to wait, that finds its way into the costs of goods.”
Buttigieg’s warning comes as the US continues to grapple with one of the worst bouts of inflation in decades. New hordak from 2018 (talk) 21:24, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • With the expansion of the article, I'll have to say oppose. There is enough for a standalone article now. LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 01:36, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Title: 2023 Interstate 95 highway collapse?[edit]

This would distinguish it from the one that occurred in the 1990s. RKJ 5 (talk) 14:04, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - The article title should be moved as this is not the only bridge collapse that has happened along I-95. Dough4872 02:13, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per LilianaUwU. Moving would also have the benefit of future-proofing the next time it happens. –Fredddie 04:31, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Moved, as there was consensus. Abductive (reasoning) 10:09, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, the infobox refers to the incident as Interstate 95 bridge collapse. Which is correct, bridge or highway? Needforspeed888 (talk) 11:06, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There was no bridge, it was a highway overpass. Calling it a bridge is misleading to the readership. Abductive (reasoning) 13:15, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see that as a problem: Overpass, bridge; potatoe, potato. In most regions an overpass is simply a special case name for a bridge that crosses another transportation artery rather than a body of water or whatever. From an engineering POV, financial or maintenance POV the two words are identical. In fact, the lead sentence for the article for overpass says "An overpass is a bridge ....". Dave (talk) 16:13, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dave is correct. If it has abutments, piers, decking, and barrier rails, it is a bridge. –Fredddie 16:36, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A kind of bridge called an overpass. Also, the title doesn't choose between these. I have made the infobox match the title. Abductive (reasoning) 17:41, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I-95 guy[edit]

'Classic Philly Man' Gives News Interview, And People Can’t Get Over His Accent (RS per WP:RSP) What makes this different from other viral personalities within a serious incident like, say, with Ain't Nobody Got Time for That or Charles Ramsey, is that in the linked "follow-up interview" on WTXF-TV, he offered to donate some of the proceedings of the sales of a related T-shirt to the family of the collapse victim. Assuming that he follows through, and hopefully with reinforcement of a future Inquirer/Daily News article, I believe that this should get a sentence or two. Mapsax (talk) 01:02, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Incomprehensible sentence[edit]

There is currently a "sentence" at the end of the Detours section that reads:

"After a few days of severe rush hour delays, even as the closure traffic on city highways returned to close to normal as drivers found alternate routes, switched to transit, or worked from home."

It's the last sentence in the section. I'd fix it but I can't tell what it's supposed to mean. Somebody else might want to take a crack at it. 69.121.57.177 (talk) 01:21, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully I've fixed it. [1] Wracking talk! 02:10, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
