Programs removed from bowl consideration[edit]

I see good reason for listing in chronological order for the teams that are opting out or removal for other reasons. However, after December 20, should this section be revised to alphabetical order? In the future, it's probably useful in looking up information for the list to be alphabetical as opposed to chronological. Any thoughts? Bob305 (talk) 02:44, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fiesta Bowl[edit]

A presumably reliable source (here) has reported "With the 31-24 win over the Trojans, the Ducks have earned the automatic bid from the Pac-12 conference to the Playstation Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona on Saturday, January 2, 2021." However, I've not seen sourcing that states the Pac-12 actually has an automatic bid to the Fiesta Bowl. Each of the bowl tie-in summaries I've seen (example here) lists the Fiesta Bowl as at-large vs. at-large. ESPN's report about Oregon's win over USC (here) says "Oregon: A probable berth in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2" (italics added by me). I'm certainly expecting the Pac-12 champion is going to get a NY6 bowl berth, but I'm not sure it's automatically going to be the Fiesta Bowl. Has anyone seen definitive sourcing on this? Dmoore5556, although there are a couple sources reporting that Oregon is in (NBC and Yahoo were the only two major sources I found), from what I can tell it is not an auto bid, but rather decided by the committee. Both ESPN (which you mentioned above) and the Fiesta Bowl's official twitter account (which says The Ducks played in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1, 2002 and on Jan. 3, 2013. Will they join us again on Jan. 2, 2021?") leads me to think that we should probably remove this and wait until Sunday's announcement, since it is not 100% confirmed.   • Oregon is guaranteed a NY6 bowl bid as PAC-12 champion. That is not speculation. Normally they would go to the Rose Bowl but since that’s being used as a playoff this year, if they don’t get a spot in the playoff (and they almost certainly won’t but it hasn’t been announced yet) they have to get an at large to either the Fiesta, Cotton, or Peach. Most likely due to geographic considerations it will be the Fiesta but we don’t know that. Agree it should be removed until we know. Smartyllama (talk) 15:45, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A rose (bowl) by any other name...[edit]

Quick note that it's unclear (so far) if the CFP semifinal moved from Pasadena to Arlington will still be called the "Rose Bowl" (example news report here). Article updates should be fairly straightforward if the game retains its Rose Bowl name. If not, I suggest we could coordinate any non-obvious actions here. FYI, press release from the Tournament of Roses is here. "It is not yet determined if the CFP semifinal in Dallas will be called the CFP Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One. The name is a part of the Master License Agreement and is co-owned by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the City of Pasadena." A press release today by the Tournament of Roses, (here) calls the game the "College Football Playoff Semifinal presented by Capital One"—they do not use the name "Rose Bowl" anywhere in the release. Dmoore5556, in the event that the game does not use the Rose Bowl name, and doesn't use a new specified name, I have a few proposals for the new name of the page (so that we're not scrambling to come up with one):
  • 2021 College Football Playoff Semifinal at Arlington, Texas
  • 2021 College Football Playoff Semifinal at AT&T Stadium
  • 2021 AT&T Stadium College Football Playoff Semifinal
  • 2021 Arlington College Football Playoff Semifinal
Any of these could substitute "College Football Playoff" with "CFP" if the consensus would prefer that. I know these aren't great but I suppose we have to go with something. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 03:20, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
PCN02WPS, I would probably go with "2021 Arlington College Football Playoff Semifinal" as it could be abbreviated to "2021 Arlington CFP Semifinal", However, I'm really hoping CFP gives it a clear and specific name if they can't use Rose Bowl. Military Bowl[edit]

The Military Bowl is still trying to line up teams; their executive director tweeted "We would love to host @ArmyWP_Football at the #MilitaryBowl...just have to find an opponent!" within the past hour (here). No cancellation for their game has been issued/acknowledged yet, at least that I can find. I put a note in the lead of Military Bowl; will see what develops. Bowl payouts[edit]

If anyone sees (or has seen) information about 2020–21 bowl payouts, could you please provide a link here? I've been looking for that info but have not yet been able to find it.
