Participating Teams[edit]

I've only listed those teams already guaranteed to be playing in these groups based on Canada hosting and all the tournaments that have already concluded. It is assumed all the "Big 7" hockey nations will be in the Top Level, however, since the 2011 tournament hasn't been played yet, it isn't certain who will be relegated yet. Conversely, for Division III, the tournament hasn't been played yet, so it is undetermined who will be promoted. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 02:18, 20 December 2010 (UTC)'[reply]

tie-breakers[edit]

please review IIHF rules before posting criteria for elimination or promotion. Denmark must beat Fin and have fin included in their tie-breaker, so the czech's cannot be included in that, so the americans must lose out. Additionally, the americans are already +5 collectively against denmark and finland, so denmark would need to win by 13 to pull even with them.18abruce (talk) 21:16, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Relegation Round[edit]

Do the preliminary round games played between teams in the same pool, count towards the final standings for the relegation round? Flibirigit (talk) 20:25, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Only the games against other teams in the relegation round. So the US game against Denmark and Latvia's game against (likely) Switzerland will count. Kaiser matias (talk) 01:08, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion/Demotion[edit]

This page shows France moving up to division I A. However, 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships shows France moving up to the top division. I'm not up on my rules to know where there error lies... --Mustard (talk) 02:26, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This page is right. France is only moving to Division IA. Germany will be in the top division next year. Kaiser matias (talk) 02:28, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed: [1]. It used to be (as recently as 2009, not sure about 2010 or 2011) that the winner of each Division I group moved up, but it seems they have changed it so that instead of running parallel, Division I A is now above I B. So, only the loser of Denmark-Latvia tomorrow is going down, and only Germany is coming up. France, as winners of Div. I B are moving to Div. I A. Resolute 06:00, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This press release documents the changes that have occured for all IIHF tournaments. No more parallel tournaments for Men's, U20, or U18. Men's Division IA will apparently have the small quirk (for this year) of two teams being promoted, and one relegated, and IIB and III will exchange two teams.18abruce (talk) 13:30, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
