"Spill"[edit]

I've seen this word float around a bit in Australian politics articles (and news story sources) but is there anywhere that explains exactly what a spill is (the overall leadership election, a party room vote or what?) and where the term comes from? Leadership of the major Australian parties is always determined by a party room vote. A spill involves the declaration of the leadership (and usually the deputy leadership) vacant. I don't know about origin of term but it has been around for many years--Grahame (talk) 02:40, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
