Various Notes with sources[edit]

[1]: -Tournament will be a "testing ground" for four new professionals - Cliff Wilson, Joe Johnson, Mike Hallett, Tony Meo. -Seeded on the basis of only world championship ratings (ecluding UK champ results) - Griffiths was top seeded as defending champion. -Ray Reardon did not compete as he had a "lucrative exhibition contract with General Motors. -Rex Williams did not compete as he was scheduled to play on an Australian tour with Eddie Charlton -Roy Andrewartha (Wales) (Walllasey) was drawn against J. Barrie (Wisbech) in the first round [Did this match happen? Seems not - checked a couple of other sources, none mention it.BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 21:24, 20 August 2019 (UTC)][reply]

[2]: Virgo was reading a paper when he got the call about the changed start time. He was 15 miles away. Drove, then ran the last half mile after difficulties parking. Penalty of 2 frames was one for each 20 mins late.

[3] - he was 31 minutes late for session

[4] Notes that John Spencer had never won a match in the UK championship. Spencer "backed himself to win the title with a bet of £6,600 to £1,100." [????] BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 16:45, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'll pick this one up, will post review as soon as possible. Kosack (talk) 11:19, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Initial review

Tournament summary[edit]

  • "The tournament was the third annual UK Championship, first held in 1968", the Championship article states it was first held in 1977 unless I'm missing something?
    • I think I was looking up a different competition and copied the wrong date  Fixed Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 07:17, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "World championship semi-finalist", if its referring to an actual tournament, Championship will need a capital letter.
  • "Matches played until the final were played as best-of-17-frame matches, with the final played as best-of-27 frames .", played is used three times in this sentence which is slightly repetitive. There's a stray space at the end also.

Final[edit]

  • "with two on the 30th and the final on 1 December", the different use of date formats is a little strange here. I know you've done it to distinguish but is there a better way to word this. Simply "with two held on the first day and the final session on the the second" or something along those lines?
  • "from the regular 1:45 p.m. start time to start at 12 p.m.", the double use of start sounds a little clunky.
  • "John Virgo won the final frame and his sole major title to win 14–13.", could do with reordering slightly. "Virgo (lose the John?) won the final frame to claim the match 14-13 and his sole major title win"?
  • Do we know why the cameramen were striking?
    • Working conditions - I think. I can't find a single source on the matter though, so I can't comment. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 07:20, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, was it just the cameraman and when did they leave? We have "final frames of the final" and then "leaving the arena during the final frame"?
    • They stopped filming with two or three (sources aren't specific) frames to go, but the cameramen were actually leaving the building during the final frame. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 07:20, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Main draw[edit]

  • Why do the players have both their nationality in flag and text form? I think one would be sufficient.

A couple of issues listed above. Nothing major. Placed on hold for now. Kosack (talk) 08:32, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think I got it all. Thanks for the review again Kosack. I'm a little busy right now, sadly, but I'll get back to my review of your Cardiff City article shortly. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 07:27, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy that all of the points above have been addressed and the article is in line with the GA criteria. Happy to promote. Kosack (talk) 05:58, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
