I worked for a law firm in this building from 1977 to 1981 and on occasion would see mail addressed to 10 east 40th street The Largo Building. Was this another name for that building? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.80.150 (talk) 20:42, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

10 East 40th StreetMercantile Building – name used in the CTBUH database Triplecaña (talk) 15:08, 13 August 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. Galobtter (pingó mió) 06:57, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are a large number of buildings called "Mercantile Building". I am inclined to believe that "Mercantile Building" should be a disambiguation page. Note also that the article's cites from Architecture Week and The New York Times use the current title, not even mentioning "Mercantile Building" in passing. • Oppose, instead disambiguate Mercantile Building per comments made by Dekimasu. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 15:55, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, but add "(New York)" so that the disambiguation page is for "Mercantile Building" (referring also to entities in Dallas, Phoenix and the UK, but to no others in New York) and the page title is "Mercantile Building (New York)". The disambiguation page’s line could read something like "* Mercantile Building (New York), also called 10 East 40th Street". Rationale: Non New Yorkers may now be familiar with "40 Rock" and "1 World Trade Center", but they just don't recognize nor can they easily distinguish other Manhattan grid addresses in standard form (e.g. 23 West 26th Street, former headquarters of the Communist Party, USA). In fact, it's a little presumptuous to assume that they'll even recognize that address as being in Manhattan. —— Shakescene (talk) 18:20, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. As suggested above, Mercantile Building should be a DAB. I'd add that Mercantile Building (New York) should be a redirect, unless reliable sources use a different name to our current article name, and that doesn't seem to be the case. This then takes good care of all readers. Andrewa (talk) 12:04, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
