Suicide Forest video

This is regarding these edits

@AlexanderHovanec: Hello. Wikipedia article should avoid WP:CSECTIONs. They introduce many problems, starting with the section header. They exist, and are unfortunately commons, but should be avoided whenever possible. This was a video he uploaded as part of his social media personality career. The video is treated as part of his "youtuber" activity by sources, most of which do not even discuss anything else about him. This should not be ghettoized into a csection, and should instead be integrated and explained as part of his career history. There are so, so many sources about this already, that it will become much clearer how to do this in time, but to avoid WP:RECENTISM, this should be handled slowly. Grayfell (talk) 00:24, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

I understand where you're coming from. But other articles include sections like "legal issues" or "health problems" -- all while many other articles feature whole sections about "critical reception". While unbiased, it still sheds a negative light on the overall career. What if the large chunk of text were just designated within a sub-section alternatively titled "Incident in Japan"? This way it's comprehended that this doesn't define his overall career, and was just an "incident" -- like how other articles contain sections devoted to "eras" or "phases". -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 00:29, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
That could work. "Incident in Japan" seems too vague to me. This has a similar problem as "controversy". "Incident" could be anything, but it's not really informative by itself. If this needs its own section (which again, will time will tell) this would be better described in simple terms. "Japanese suicide video" maybe? There is no way to describe this incident that isn't going to be somewhat shocking, but that's unavoidable. Simple is usually more neutral, and his discovery and subsequent behavior are what's notable about this incident, so that's information we should attempt to indicate or summarize in the section header.
As for your examples, "health problems" would be appropriate for multiple health problems, or for complicated or protracted ones, otherwise "cancer diagnosis" or similar would be better. If it's only a single paragraph, it's typical to place this kind of thing under "personal life" for most biographies. The same applies here. If this turns out to be a single paragraph, it's probably going to be rolled into his 'social media' career section, because this is, by his own flawed admission, a defining moment of his career. If it's not, well, we can figure out what to call it when that happens. Grayfell (talk) 00:44, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
Ah, agreed. I think it looks fine to me. If you think the title is too vague or inaccurate, than by all means change it, as I'm no admin. I just believe that the event should at least be categorized under some kind of "header", and I think a header governed by four equal signs will work. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 00:54, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
I got a message on my talk page suggesting this source be implemented into the article: https://techcrunch.com/2018/01/03/youtube-is-equally-to-blame-for-logan-pauls-video/amp/
I took a look at it and it seems like a solid source that could definitely be used in the article. I don't really have much of an interest in editing this article though, so I'll just leave the source here as I figure it would be useful. Best wishes, Soulbust (talk) 15:57, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Follow-up

I made an edit recommending that the section (yanno... about the suicide) be kept broad as the incident possessed its own article. I further recommended that all details be placed on the designated page instead. I now realize this was an error, as the page (not sure who created it, never looked) is going to be deleted for its lack of notability. Therefore, details really should be placed in the Logan Paul "suicide section".

Additionally, I feel like the section has received and will continue to receive biased and unsourced claims/statements. I.e. the term "jokes", as no one technically has the right to define the subject's actions as a joke, or not-a-joke. If YouTube were to make a statement, referring to Paul's actions as "mockery" – or if Paul himself claimed "I was joking" – than of course the term "joke" 'd be acceptable. It's also a necessity that editors refrain from negative adjectives like 'incentive" or "disrespectful". Instead, I changed the statement to read something along the lines of "critics/viewers feel it is insensitive/disrespectful".

I understand the section and "incident" are negative, and ethically/morally unacceptable to many people, but some readers may have differing view points, which is why encyclopedias must remain as neutral as possible. Thanks a lot Wikipedians and ("LoGang" – is that the right term?). -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 01:41, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

This argument is asinine. YouTube has the right to call it mockery, but numerous other reliable sources don't? You removed a link by the BBC where they referred to it as "joking". It's easy to find numerous other sources that say he was joking, including The Guardian, The Daily Beast, NPR, etc. Bueller 007 (talk) 16:20, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
Well if that's the way you feel, then add to the article that other news sources are DEEMING it a joke. Don't just out and say that it IS a joke. Different people classify what happened as different things. Paul said himself that he wasn't joking in his apology video, so for other outlets to dub it a joke and side with the news outlets would violate WP:NPOV. Feel free to add quotes of news articles containing the word joke if you like that term so much, but do not define his actions as a joke in the article as that would be biased. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 16:24, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Sub-sections

@AlexanderHovanec: I strongly disagree with this revert you made. I don't think there should be sub-sections; if anything, the content should be moved to somewhere else in the main section, namely after the sentence beginning with "the video was criticized by many online". Would that be a nice workaround?

As for the "relevant details", I don't think the name of the user who created the main petition is really relevant; we can easily do without it and simply mention other petitions have been made, as what I did in my initial edit. SkyWarrior 05:39, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

@AlexanderHovanec: how's this for a compromise? I made the changes I proposed above regarding the change.org petition, but kept the section on the lawsuit after further thinking. SkyWarrior 05:49, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
I definitely see where you're coming from. Unfortunately, I didn't read this until after making some revisions to the article, so I fear I completely did what you've told me not to do. Feel free to re-add the compromise and revert any of my recent edits. While I still feel "iffy" about your preference, I don't think it's all that important in the end. You make a good suggestion. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 21:16, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Don't revert all my edits though, as some had nothing to do with our discussion. 😂 Additionally, the reason I keep adding more and more information to these paragraphs is because I'm transferring info after info from the Logan Paul suicide video controversy TO the Logan Paul article, as many are voting to delete the latter and merge the two. Therefore, I just don't want details on one page to be unincluded on another page. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 21:24, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
I think the only other thing I reverted was your move of the image, which in my opinion didn't really help much and wasn't all too needed. SkyWarrior 21:26, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Furthermore, we don't need to merge everything that's in the to-be-redirected/deleted article; we can easily leave some things out that are irrelevant to the whole picture, such as the name of the person who created the largest petition. SkyWarrior 21:29, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Colorblindness mentioned in "Health" section, as well as alleged fakery?

Hey: I saw some comments on Paul's colorblindness, and about including that in the article - thought this deserved its own section as it seemed swallowed up by the suicide video controversy.

I think LP's colorblindness and the (minor) controversy over him allegedly faking (or, in his words, "embellish" and "exaggerate" the condition) it should be included in "health" section of this article. Also, would this be considered a reliable source to include for this? Thanks. J.M.Ike (talk) 04:42, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Logan Paul Has Created many songs he is now creating a song with his stepbrother Jas Lang which is believed to be about suicide prevention after pauls new years vlog last year Jas Lang, Logan Paul's stepbrother said that all money made from this song will go to suicide prevention. 112.141.44.198 (talk)

This... is news to me. Wow. If we KNOW the information is credible, then I say go ahead and add the information to the article. In the suicide section, of course. In a new paragraph of its own. But we need extremely valid sources. Make sure that no doubt can be derived from the citations you tack on. They must be credible, from news sources or Paul up and saying it himself. If it's only a rumor, then we'll have to wait for the time being. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 03:03, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

Regarding the 'Career' section

1.) The paragraph starting "TheOfficialLoganPaul" - includes 'while his first channel has a following of 4.36 million...' -I'm confused as to what his 'first channel' is. Is 'TheOfficialLoganPaul' the channel to which you refer?

2.) In the subsection '2015-2016: YouTube Red...' you include information from 2017. Then in '2017-present' you talk about his legal issues, etc. The 'Career' section should include the '2017-present' subsection, but this subsection ought to list/detail/talk about his career from 2017 onward. From what I gather from info elsewhere on the wiki page, in 2017 Paul created some sort of mini-series called 'Tokyo Adventures'. He also released multiple singles and directed a bunch of music videos. He also continued his vlog. Did he continue his 'first channel'? This should all be included in '2017-present.' THEN, after you are done bringing us up to date regarding career, you should create an entirely new section for his legal issues, controversies, etc. Not only is this in keeping with wikipedia's usual format, it's less confusing. I knew nothing about Paul prior to coming to wikipedia and after reading 'Initially intended to be part three of his "Tokyo Adventures", the group had planned to camp in the woods' I was thinking "what is 'Tokyo Adventures'? Who is 'they'?" Niccast (talk) 22:08, 14 January 2018 (UTC)niccast

It COULD be true but you've gotta source your edits. No one has EVER said he "quit" or that any of his projects were "cancelled". Paul stated himself that he was on hiatus, meaning break or period of rest. He said he "needs time to think" and "reflect". Additionally, his shows are on hold, which means "not cancelled but paused in wake of controversy". Paul still makes thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars a day and has only been gaining subscribes -- very steadily. If I were him, I think it'd be a horrible idea to "end it all". Even if people hate'm, he'll still be successful and benefit from the things he's done for the rest of his life. In other words, I personally doubt he won't remain inactive. -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 03:02, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

Information on other activities in Japan, including suicide controversy in lead

Regarding these reverts of my edits, I have two questions:

  1. Should mention of Paul's suicide video be mentioned in the lead? It seems a very siginificant event as it seems to be one of the first times he was covered in depth by mainstream media outside of the YouTuber infighting. New York magazine described the video as "a decision that turned him from a person who people who know about YouTubers love to hate into a guy that people who know nothing about YouTube also love to hate" [Page Not Found] in an unrelated story;
  2. Should mention of Paul's other videos in Japan be mentioned in the suicide controversy section? This Daily Beast article seems significant to mention with relation to the reaction of Japanese law enforcement to alleged crimes he committed and seems reliably sourced.

thank you – Bangalamania (talk) 03:07, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for starting a discussion. Of the three sources used in the recent expansion, the Vox ref is by far the best. It would be a nice addition to use to expand the lede, but I'm not sure the suicide video deserves any mention in the members.
As far as mentioning the compilation video [1], the Daily Dot ref seems like little more than clickbait, while the Daily Beast is better, it seems to be just milking the suicide video controversy with an interview of Taihei Ogawa, a Japanese author and former policeman. Maybe this reference suggests a brief mention of the topic is due, but the level of detail and choice of quotes seems undue and unencyclopedic.
I find the use of the Ogawa interview to be gimmicky, and Ogawa's viewpoints on possible crimes unreliable for use in a BLP and undue to mention as his viewpoint. --Ronz (talk) 03:23, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I don't understand why the views of Ogwa and the unnamed current policeman are unreliable? Japanese law enforcement officers would seem to be RS for talking about Japanese law and possible prosecutions in the future. – Bangalamania (talk) 03:30, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
It's a gimmick. He's a former policeman. It's his personal opinion. It's speculation. It sensationalizes the story. Once again, look at the Vox reference in contrast. --Ronz (talk) 05:21, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Monetization of apology video and feedback on Suicide: Be Here Tomorrow

I suggest that it should be mentioned that the apology video was monetized and Paul was criticized for that, although it may not have been intentional. The video was later demonetized. Also in the bitabout the feedback on the Be Here Tomorrow video it should say that it received mostly positive feedback, some still viewed it as a PR stunt, for his reputation, and some didn't feel like forgiving him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.16.43.70 (talk) 21:01, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

All despite making many millions of $ off the KSI fights. See for reference: https://themighty.com/2019/12/logan-paul-suicide-prevention-donations/

Request edit on 7 June 2021

  • What I think should be changed: The claim that the Paul-Mayweather fight result was "Draw" is inaccurate
  • Why it should be changed: The source cited does not state this result, in fact it is from months before the fight and does not discuss any details or results from the event. Additionally, all publicly available sources currently state that a condition of the match was that there would be no official result if neither fighter was knocked out. Therefore it is not possible for the match result to be "Draw." Draw means two very specific things in boxing, either a fighter can't continue due to accident or fouls, or the match went to scorecards and the score was tied. Neither of these things happened. Further, compubox stats are available and indicate a dominating performance by Mayweather, landing nearly twice as many hits on nearly quadruple the accuracy percentage. The only accurate statement of the results of this match is that there is no official result and Mayweather was statistically dominant.

'Already done', I think. The article does not call it a "draw", but says that there's no winner that was announced (there were no judges), which is supported by WP:RS. — Mikehawk10 (talk) 05:18, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

The claims made by the attending 'neuroscientist' - Dr. Amen - are intellectually and morally fraudulent. Not only is the neuroimaging method employed by Dr. Amen (SPECT) unreliable when it comes to neuroanatomy, it cannot, prima facie, be used to to make forward or reverse inferences (e.g., relating psychological processes to neural regions) to 'so called' metabolic activity.

Logan Paul saw Dr. Amen AFTER filming the consequences of a suicide. Dr. Amen then showed Paul his brain and pointed and said "you have problems with empathy, planning, learning, remembering, and reward."

Dr. Amen is peddling pseudoscience and using such quackery to misinfgorm the general public that the callous acts of Youtube starts are driven by brain damage. DallasCat99 (talk) 08:08, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Hello. Reference number 73 cites the youtube video where Dr. Amen 'investigates' Logan Paul. The section I am attempting to revise should clarify that Logan Paul is NOT suffering from empathic deficits, but is instead seeking pseudosceintifically driven grief after intentionally deceiving others. Dr. Amen actually tells him not to box, but he boxes anyways. Both are deceiving the general public. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DallasCat99 (talkcontribs) 10:18, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
@DallasCat99 is apparently asking to append or modify the Logan_Paul#Health paragraph reference to alleged brain damage, it should indicate the suspect claim/gimmick is basically self reported and based upon the dianosis of a quack celebrity doctor Dr. Amen, as evidenced in the doctor's wikipedia article. And in the Daily Dot article:

The doctor—who appears to be Dr. Daniel Amen, a celebrity brain disorder specialist whose methods have been scrutinized by the American Psychiatric Association

Logan Paul and the CryptoZoo Controversy

Logan Paul became entangled in a significant controversy involving the non-fungible token (NFT) game CryptoZoo (1). Paul was subject to a class-action lawsuit following an investigation by YouTuber Stephen “Coffeezilla” Findeisen, who specializes in unveiling fraudulent practices within the cryptocurrency sector. Findeisen's investigation revealed that CryptoZoo, promoted as a source of passive income for its investors, was in fact a financial trap. The game's in-game currency was sold by Paul's team before others had the opportunity, resulting in substantial losses for many participants. A small group, including some individuals involved in the game's development, allegedly made significant profits1.

The lawsuit was initiated by a Texas police officer who invested approximately $3,000 into CryptoZoo with the expectation of considerable returns. The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $75,000 on several legal grounds, including conspiracy to commit fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, negligence, and unjust enrichment. The lawsuit implicates everyone involved in the game's creation, including Paul and the former lead developer, Eddie Ibanez1.

In a video response to the allegations, Paul admitted to hiring individuals who subsequently engaged in fraudulent activities within the CryptoZoo project. He accepted responsibility for the lack of oversight during the hiring process, revealing that the lead developer Eddie Ibanez and another individual known as "Jake the Crypto King" had defrauded the company and its investors. It was revealed that Jake had allegedly stolen $6 million, while Ibanez was accused of taking over $1.7 million. Both have since been removed from the project (2).

Despite Paul's attempts to address the controversy, the incident has raised questions about his professional judgment. Paul is currently attempting to dissociate himself from the project as swiftly as possible2. His formal response to the lawsuit is pending, as he has not officially replied to it since it was filed1.
