Deleted

I deleted this: Italic text Will Ferrell called Jim Carrey the funniest man in comedy. Not only is it out of place, and does not fit at all in the paragraph structure, but has no source. Interesting if it is true, though.--Pantaloons 22:18, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

I can't verify this so I took it out. Please add a source if you wish to return it. [1] Angela

Timeline Issues

It states that Carrey moved to Scarborough when he was 14 (1976) and spent at least 3 years there. Then he lived in Burlington for 8 years (that would be 1979-1987), and was a headliner at Yuk Yuk's in 1981, but apparently in the early 1980s he moved to Los Angeles, and auditioned to be a cast member for the 1980-81 season of SNL. Likely the 8 years in Burlington is a mistake? Bulbtree (talk) 21:10, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

North American Box Office

The amounts for some of these seem completely off.

It list that Earth Girls Are Easy made less than 4 million dollars. Is that correct?

Within this table, Jim Carrey's role in The Cable Guy is Ernie "Chip" Douglas. The table information should be corrected accordingly. Diegodew (talk) 02:28, 13 April 2009 (UTC)DiegoDew

Cannibal Corpse?

Is there any way to cite that he's a fan of Cannibal Corpse? I'm not saying that's false, it may very well be true, but it's a bit...unusual, yes? I won't put up the "citation needed" but if someone could cite a page that'd be great. Mister Deranged 18:09, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

IGNORE THAT--I didn't see the cite on Cannibal Corpse's page. My mistake! Mister Deranged 18:12, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Jim Carrey, "the guy from In Living Color"

I hope no one brands me a racist for pointing this out, but at the time that was his most notable characteristic. Some reviews for Ace Ventura even used this to describe him. --Feitclub 14:37, Sep 20, 2004 (UTC)

Check that, the white guy from In Living Color. I forgot about Kelly Coffield. --Feitclub 17:10, Sep 20, 2004 (UTC)

Serious problems

Someone here has some.

I have just corrected several acts of vandalism in this article that apparently went unnoticed for some time. Whoever you are, lads, I suggest you spend more time on your homework. It's a waste of time vandalizing this site.

Birth Place

I don't know for sure, but I bet he was born in the hospital in Newmarket, but his family may have lived in Keswisk (no hospital) at the time of his birth. Can anyone confirm where his family lived when he was born. I know they moved around a lot. What is the policy. Does wiki list birth place or first residence? Cafe Nervosa | talk 20:02, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

He was born and lived in Newmarket but after a few years I aint sure the number thats when he moved and started to work as a Janitor with his family. But I am 100% he was born in Newmarket, I know cuz I live in Newmarket, Canada.

I believed he lived In a trailer up by Lake Simcoe in Keswick or Sutton according to a relative

Age

He was 41 when he was in Bruce Almighty? Wow. He looks good for 40! Deskana (talk page) 23:51, 31 December 2005 (UTC) I thought he was 35 or something. 207.177.118.2 13:49, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Major Vandalism

I'm pretty certain this entire article has been vandalized... --Jeff 18:03, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, from the article: "where he did not rise to become a headliner in February 1231, shortly after his 89th birthday and was married to Leatrice Spevack." Mr. Carrey is not over 89, and I'm unaware of a "February 1231" date. I'll see if I can find this change in the history, and correct it. --Mark Alfred 15:25, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

I found the vandal's edit and undid it. --Mark Alfred 15:34, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Unsourced, POV paragraph

I removed this paragraph "Apart from reprising them in a sequel, he rarely turns down roles as he likes to get out there, try new things and have fun. Most of the time, the reason the roles originally offered to him are given to other actors is because those actors aren't a big a name like him so film-makers will be able to pay those actors a smaller amount of money than Jim Carrey's asking price." as it is unsourced, rather nonsensical, and somewhat POV. It was later restored with the comment that I should "reword it". Uh, why? There is no evidence that this paragraph is anything but a fan's POV. I'm taking it out again and would hope that someone can actually find a quoted source to support it if they feel it need to be here so badly. Personally, I don't see what it adds, beyond bringing down the quality of the article.

Bringing down is your own POV. Worry about the NPOV policy when you will be able to sign your contributions. -- Jokes Free4Me 07:26, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
If you're so adament that this nonsensical paragraph stay, why not back it up? If you want it here, find a quoted source. The comment I removed is POV as written - sourceless, unsupported. As well as being poorly constructed. Anyone besides Jokes Free4Me have an opinion on this? --Kel123 16:51, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Wow - so fan written and maintained websites count as sources? Interesting. Since at least two users insist that this paragraph remain, but refuse to clean it up themselves, I tried to sort out the garbled language to be less confusing and fannish and more NPOV. I also added citation needed tags.--Kel123 06:19, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
I agree that you're going to need a source for this. Mcflytrap 20:57, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

became GOD, a nitpick

Under the personal section, it says: '(the car Bruce got after he "became GOD" in Bruce Almighty)'

Why exactly is "became GOD" in quotes, and why is God all in capitals? I'm just going to change it and if it was better before someone can change it back. I'm not at all sure if this is good Wiki policy... 70.66.9.162 06:32, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Citation not Needed

Hey guys. I am removing the only "citation needed" on the article. It makes it look sloppy, and like incorrect information. Dead?

It is unsourced, and I can't find any sources regarding Jim Carrey's death. Remove? Also, if it is removed, I'm rather unsure about the last ten edits (of the current moment), because they are more or less vandalism edits.--Qwerty 00:59, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

it is unsourced, I couldn't find anything on his death, keep reverting vandalism however, seems the 4channers are here vandalising the page. User:Ikelim

  • It is entirely untrue. Jim Carrey is very much alive. It was simply vandalism, just like the image and trivia edits. I have no doubt there were many more edits, but I didn't see them. I've also checked for any information on a realsitic source. all the sources that would know best (Fan sites, news) have nothing. Is it me or does anyone remember a film named == " MASK" ==

For crying out loud... where do you think he got the term "Smokey" and "Somebody stop Me" attached to himself. It also grossed some $350 mil in the box office. Was probably one of his best reviewed works and to date his best comedic performance ever.

"Mask" is a film with Cher and Eric Stoltz. "The Mask" was with Jim Carrey, and the correct phrase was, "Smokin!". Mcflytrap 21:22, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Depression

Erm is anyone going to discuss his depression somewhere in his article??? Hes fairly well known for it (Im guessing hes bi-polar or something).—Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.6.159.121 (talkcontribs)

Wikipedia articles are not the appropriate place to "discuss" something. Because it is an encyclopedia, we need to provide verifiable information and the sources that support it (see WP:ATT for more information). Please feel free to edit the article if you can meet the the criteria set forth in this policy.--Vbd (talk) 23:27, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Notable roles

This section of the infobox is not meant to be a long list. Although there is not a specific guideline, perhaps we can limit it to three or four. Of course, the problem with this section is that it is fairly subjective. In that it is contrary to WP:NPOV, maybe no roles should be listed. This has been debated here and here, with no final consensus reached. Is it possible to settle on a reasonable number of roles for Jim Carrey, and if so, which ones? I have deleted a few, leaving six. Note that the lead paragraph has even more roles listed in it.--Vbd (talk) 21:44, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Singing Career?

Some may or may not know this but Jim Carrey has done some singing. I don't think he actually sold any records or anything but he has recorded a couple songs. Mostly known for singing Jefferson Airplanes, Somebody To Love in the movie, "The Cable Guy" And he also recorded singing The Beatles song, "I am the Walrus"

He's actually had a UK Top 40 hit in about 1995, with a song called 'Cuban Pete'.--MartinUK (talk) 18:27, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Academy Award

Was the plaintive sentence "But despite the fact that he has done many, many performances which were praised by both critics and fans alike, he has never been nominated for a single Academy Award" added by some fan with an axe to grind? Why is it noteworthy? 84.69.36.31 21:53, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

It's as noteworthy as He is known for his manic, slapstick performances in comedy films such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Me, Myself & Irene, The Cable Guy, Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty. Carrey has also achieved critical success in dramatic roles in films such as The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. User:AKR619

No it's not. The films he's been in make him distinctive. Having not won an Oscar makes him the same as virtually everyone else on the planet. If he'd won one, /that/ would be noteworthy. 82.38.198.78 14:34, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Well there's no complaints from people who read the Christopher Lee page User:AKR619

The Christopher Lee page has a more appropriate tone. Also, Jim Carrey != Christopher Lee. 84.69.36.31 20:18, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Jim Carrey's birthplace

I would like to know how certain the person is who wrote that his birthplace was Newmarket Ontario because I saw his biography on A & E and they place his birth in Jackson's Point Ontario. Though I can't be certain, I tend to believe that the team at biography would be diligent in their research efforts to protect their credibility. I estimate that the author of this portion of the wikipedia article is mistaken.

An Additional Detail For The Trivia Section

On the Trivia says that Jim was one of the runner-ups for the role of Willy Wonka in the Burton’s version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Something funny that I think it should be add to this particular statement is that, on the Wikipedia Edward Scissorhands movie article says that Jim auditioned several times for the role of Edward, which at the end was performed by Johnny Deep. According to this, Jim has lost to Johnny Deep twice for 2 Burton’s films roles.

This and several other actor pages have been updated with trivia regarding films they turned down. I think this needs attention and consideration as much of this information is from the notstarring.com website. I find the trivia interesting but I'm unsure as to whether it should be included because, as time goes by, actors like Jim Carrey would have turned down hundreds of films to the extent that it is not note-worthy. Should this be ammended or removed? Carkypants (talk) 18:59, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

A-list?

Even if he is, I don't think this should be in the article. There are many actors that are more successful then him and their articles don't refer to them as 'a-list' actors.12.65.36.102 21:08, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

That's because there are only 10 people on the official A-list... He's 3rd btw so there aren't many actors that are more successful than him. There are only 2. Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks. (talk) 16:51, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Sentence fragment in personal section

There is a sentence fragment regarding what I assume is his appreciation for a list of cartoons in the personal section. It appears that an insertion about Angle was made breaking a sentence, and the latter section of the sentence was not repaired.

Because adding "He is also a fan of" makes the wording a little strange, it might be easiest to parenthesize the bit about Angle's hair, allowing the sentence before it to continue.

I'd do it myself but I'm unregistered and don't want to, and the page is semiprotected. 66.68.99.199 (talk) 08:43, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Other Appearances

"Also showed up on Saturday Night Live as a Jacuzzi life guard" The article notes that he "showed up" on SNL. However the sketch in question was performed when he hosted an episode of the series on May 18, 1996, so I am not certain "showed up" would be the appropriate term. Additionally he performed several roles that night so I am not certain why that one should be noted above others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.251.89.210 (talk) 17:24, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Two- or three-decade career?

Headline has an inconsistency in consecutive paragraphs:

His two-decade career also includes roles in Hollywood blockbuster films such as The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Fun with Dick and Jane.

Over the span of his three-decade career he has won and been nominated for numerous awards....

According to the "Years Active:" timespan of "1979-present", this represents three decades; therefore the "two-decade career" is a typo and should be changed to simply "career" or "acting career" (since "three-decade career" would be repetitive).

Jim Carrye's School years

Hi there People

I have been reliably told that Jim Carrey did attend Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute, in Toronto. My mother Jackie Donnelly (maiden name) was there at the same time. Jim Carrey was slightly older than her and not in the same year of study but she remembers him very well and very fondly - but a young and immature Mike Myers sat in the same classes as my Mother joking and mucking around. Also, Jim appeared on the 11/05/09 Tonight Show and did a bit about talk shows giving away gifts to the audience. Combine categories?

American Presbyterians | Canadian Presbyterians | American Roman Catholics | Canadian Roman Catholics - Those are the categories he's in. Now's I'm pretty sure Roman Catholicism and Presbyterianism are sects of Christianity so... why don't we just have the category "American Christians" and "Canadian Christians." It's much simpler than to have two "conflicting" (well, in terms of sections of theology) sects when he could be either, and it covers them both if there's ever an editing conflict between the categories. 98.198.83.12 (talk) 00:37, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

I went to the MTV Awards page and it clearly says on the graph that he won the 1996 best Male actor. It doesn't say for which movie but it does say he won the 1999 Award for Best Male Actor just not the 1996 award. That has to be added to the list.

His sister is rumored to be the "Singing bus driver" in Burlington, Ontario.

Yes, it's true, at least they say so in The Hamilton Spectator (Hamilton, Ontario) | July 6, 2011 and the article already mentions that he has a sister named Rita. It's also in the Bio section on her own official webpage at RitaCarrey.com. I would add it to the article but I don't know if it's noteworthy enough. Anti-vaccine campaigner

With Carrey's relationship with Jenny McCarthy, he was a vocal opponent of childhood MMR vaccinations, not only writing in the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-carrey/the-judgment-on-vaccines_b_189777.html) but also using his celebrity influence to obstruct a trial vaccination program (http://www.ageofautism.com/2008/03/jim-carrey-ha-1.html). His opposition is contrary to the scientific consensus opinion and most national health policies in the industrialised world. This seems to be a relevant issue with this non-medical and non-scientific celebrity. Does anyone have an objection or comment on this being added to the article? It's hard to say without seeing it in advance; even if impeccably written, the content still has to be presented in due proportion with the rest of the article. In other words, how important is anti-vaccination campaigning in the story of Jim Carrey's life? Not very, is the sense I get; seems to be a sideline he got into mostly because of McCarthy. Certainly less significant than his struggles with and speaking about depression, for example. Why don't you draft a paragraph here and we can see where to go from there? Too easy, Spanglej. If only you had linked the word "trivia" to some Wikipedia guideline, or had used "not noteworthy"; would've been a perfect example of why Wikipedia sucks. In my opinion, it should be irrelevant whether Carrey's video was a comedy routine or a statement from his heart. (According to him both.) His recording ended up on YouTube, got millions of views in a short period and numerous newspapers - that are considered to be reliable sources here - wrote about it. (That [2] is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Carrey.) We're talking about facts here that could be easily integrated in the article about Carrey. This was world news. It's not like the article is full of stuff that happened in 2011, and the man will be fifty years old soon. He won't live forever, you know. Even if he'll be 100 years old and we would write a paragraph about each year of his life, this article would still have a manageable size. Just because it happened recently doesn't mean it lacks noteworthiness. Deletionists, please stop destroying Wikipedia. --82.171.70.54 (talk) 22:31, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Music

I would like to propose to add another section to his "Career", following "Comedy" and "Film", which would be 2.3 Music

I actually wrote this section before I realize that this article is protected so I'm not able to post in it, so here it is, would someone be so kind to post it. Any thoughts about corrections to this are very much accepted:

Throughout his career, Jim Carrey ocassionally perform as a vocalist, mostly in his movies. Generally, he may be considered a comic singer, though Carrey demonstrates authentic musicality and proper skills in most of his performances.

As a member of In Living Color cast, Carrey performed a few songs on various episodes, including "Achy Breaky Song" (taken from Weird Al Yankovic's Alapalooza album), Bobby Brown's "Humpin' Around" (depicting Bill Clinton), "Imposter" (a parody of a hit-song "Informer" by Canadian rapper Snow), "Buff Neck" (portraying a steroid-abusing female bodybuilder) and "White, White, Baby" (a humorous rendition of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby").

In his movies, Jim Carrey sang a number of songs: "Cuban Pete" (released both on The Mask soundtrack and as a single, with a dance remix by C+C Music Factory), Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love" (The Cable Guy), "This Friendly World" together with Michael Stipe of R.E.M. ( Man on the Moon) and a few songs in How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), including "Grinch 2000", a collaboration with Busta Rhymes.

In 1998, Jim Carrey perform and record "I Am the Walrus" (originally by The Beatles) for George Martin's In My Life album.

On September 2011, Jim Carrey made a guest appearance at Arlene's Grocery club in New York City, where he performed a few covers with in-house backing band – Bee Gee's "I Started a Joke", Bullet with Butterfly Wings by The Smashing Pumpkins and finally, Radiohead's "Creep".

A ballad song "Heaven Down Here", co-written by Jim Carrey with his friend and musical producer Phil Roy, was performed by Tuck & Patti and released on their album Learning How to Fly in 1994. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PizzicatoFicw (talkcontribs) 06:28, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Career

Early work

While struggling to obtain work and making a name for himself, Carrey's father decided to help the young comedian put together a stage act, driving him to Toronto to debut at comedy club Yuk Yuk's.[5] Unfortunately, Carrey's impersonations bombed and this gave him doubts about his capability as a professional entertainer. His family, at the time, were struggling financially meaning it was difficult for them to support Carrey's ambitions. Eventually, the family's financial problems were soon dealt with and they moved into a new home.[5] With a now more domestic stability, Carrey worked up the nerve to return to the stage with a more polished act.

Citizenship

It states that he is an American actor, solely. Although the citation provided goes to an article stating that he only obtained American citizenship to vote in the US election but he kept his Canadian citizenship as well. It should say, at the very least, that he is a Canadian-American actor. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.250.0.98 (talk) 03:17, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

I tend to agree with that disposition but whereas one or two editors believe that "Canadian American" shouldn't be used because it is potentially ambiguous for a small group of people -despite the fact that the article Canadian American clearly indicates the context of use of the term- it is then, more appropriate to use the nationality in which the person is notable for. Yes, indeed, he was born in Canada which makes him automatically a Canadian citizen BUT, the American citizenship law states in the oath that "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; ... " which mean that, upon acquisition of the American Citizenship, Jim Carrey became a subject of the United States and not Canada. At the same time, both Canada and the United States allow dual citizenship and the American law doesn't require a person to give up former citizenship if the former country of citizenship allows dual citizenship. For that reason, although I belive "Canadian American" is the most correct term (because it puts aside the law factor in favor of origins) but if a single citizenship has to be selected, it would have to be the latest citizenship acquired, which, in the case of Jim Carrey, is the American one. YET, favoring a compromise between warrior editors, I edited the article to show "Canadian AND American actor"-- Louk⟟nho 23:23, 15 August 2012 (UTC).

Homelessness

Why isn't there a mention of the fact that his family was once homeless in the article? I am going to put something together and add it in. This is a well-known fact about Carrey and there is no good reason not to have the information in the article.--ExclusiveAgent (talk) 19:44, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Oh! What a Carry (Carrey) On!

IMO the reason why Jim's surname (Carrey) is wrongly pronounced by us folk outside North America (UK) is simply because of the way you Americans and Canadians say words such as 'Carry', 'Harry', 'Larry', 'Marry' and 'Barry'. Names/words ending as they do in 'arry' are pronounced like 'Carey', 'Hairy', 'Lairy', 'Merry' and 'Berry'. Nothing actually wrong, it just happens to be how things are different across the 'Pond'. So, consequently, when British ears pick up this dialogue (as with Carrey) they assume it must be the name 'Carey' but spelled with an extra ‘r’. Their own common sense (if they had any) should be telling them that 'Carrey' is to be said as 'Carry' and not assume that they (Brits) should say ‘Carrey’ as with the surname ‘Carey’. Am I making sense? I certainly hope so folks.

Candid picture of his family looking flustered and upset?

Why does this article currently feature a picture of Carrey standing over a young child who is clearly not the then 21-year-old daughter mentioned in the accompanying paragraph? If this child's identity is not public then is it really appropriate for us to be including a photo that was apparently not taken with his or his parents' consent? The picture also doesn't appear to add anything to the article, since it can only confuse when according to the accompanying text he had been in a mid-to-long term relationship with Jenny McCarthy for three years (the child is not his, hence not being mentioned in the accompanying text).

After writing the first coupla sentences above I realized that maybe our article on the child's biological mother named him -- it does. But if we don't actually give any details of the family in question in text, then why do we have this somewhat awkward photo of them?

@User:Technical 13 we don't usually cite sources in succession boxes like that when both actors have articles. That Smith plays the Riddler in Gotham is easily verifiable with reference to our article on him, our article on the show, our article on the Riddler, and numerous external sources like this one. I admit it's annoying when anons come along and make edits to article text without citing sources, or requesting others do it for them, but in this case if the IP had given you a source, would you honestly have cluttered up the box by adding that unnecessary source to it? Hijiri 88 (やや) 13:28, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Hijiri88, I would likely have added a sentence to the body someplace citing the source and updated the box accordingly. — {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 14:58, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Why? It's not really relevant. I'm actually a bit ambivalent on these "succession boxes" when referring to actors playing well-known licensed fictional characters to begin with. Carrey played the character once in a mostly-forgotten movie. Then again, our Billy Dee Williams article is a worse offender -- the character is actually referred to as "Harvey Dent" rather than "Two-Face" just because the actor never played "Two-Face". In Early Life, it says "His mother was of French,[citation needed] Irish,[citation needed] and Scottish descent[7]". I should've copied it before I edited it, but before (I don't know how to do the formatting for it) it was larger than the rest of the text and red, saying something like "Citation Non-Existent" (in both places). I edited it just because it really stood out among the otherwise black, smaller text, and there's already the standard "[citation needed]". I guess it just looked kind of "un-encyclopedic". :P

For style, I would suggest removing the second sentence of the first paragraph ("Carrey has received two Golden Globe Awards").

statement by Carey removed as undue

now copied to the Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Jim_Carrey Govindaharihari (talk) 05:57, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

The quote from Carey about the death of his girlfriend has been removed by User:Ryk72 citing WP:UNDUE - here is the quote

Carrey's representatives released this statement:

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.

the online verification was from telegraph.co.uk-Jim-Carreys-girlfriend-Cathriona-White-dies-aged-30 I was asked to discuss it here, so if Ryk could please explain and others could comment, thanks Govindaharihari (talk) 05:40, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Ryk72 is absolutely correct with regard to WP:UNDUE. She is not notable, they were never in a long-term relationship, and there are many conflicting reports among media outlets about whether or not they were even dating at the time of her death. And, of course, the article is about Carrey, not her. Nevertheless, even the brief content that Ryk72 left in may still be more than should be included based on the status of their relationship and the circumstances of her death. With regard to the tribute quote, the policy WP:NOTMEMORIAL is a very clear: "Memorials. Subjects of encyclopedia articles must satisfy Wikipedia's notability requirements. Wikipedia is not the place to memorialize deceased friends, relatives, acquaintances, or others who do not meet such requirements". Czoal (talk) 06:04, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Well stated. I agree. TimidGuy (talk) 10:56, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. As I mentioned in the BLP discussion, I am still very concerned about even the brief content that remains about the woman ("On September 28, 2015, Carrey's on-off girlfriend, Cathriona White, was found dead from a possibly intentional prescription drug overdose. The couple first met in 2012."). I can't think of any good reason why this information about someone Carrey only briefly dated should be included in his article. It's undisputable that she is not notable and the cirumstances of her death are contentious and inconsistent among sources. Therefore, I believe all that content should be removed. Czoal (talk) 20:44, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
  • To repeat, I am only discussing this in one location the BLP noticeboard and not forum shopping it, the link is at the top of this section. Thanks Govindaharihari (talk) 03:58, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
Actually, you started this thread about 24 hours after your first post on the BLP noticeboard. Czoal (talk) 07:01, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
See my comment from the WP:BLPN thread - "lets continue the discussion here as the whole chat is here, I was unaware it was still under discussion here" - Govindaharihari (talk) 15:58, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
I saw that comment and, with all due respect, it simply doesn't make any sense. I'm not sure how you could've been unaware it was still under discussion since the thread was still there, still open, and editors were commenting. And it had only been open a short amount time. In any case, multiple editors have told you the quote can't be included and provided detailed reasons why. Therefore, please drop the stick already. Czoal (talk) 20:55, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
What part of, I am only discussing this in one location the BLP noticeboard don't you understand Govindaharihari (talk) 21:09, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

I am glad to see that Govindaharihari has withdrawn their objection about the tribue quote content. However, as I stated on the BLP noticeboard, I still believe that the remaining content should be removed based on her lack of notability and, from an enyclopedic perspective, the insignificance of their relationship. I will wait a bit, though, for others to give their thoughts. Czoal (talk) 22:25, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

A movie just released April 2016 reminded me of this 1980 Canadian made for TV film which I believe features un-credited shots of Carrey, especially doing a sad face during a tear-jerker song. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.72.76.156 (talk) 04:55, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Edit request: "Now professes to be a Christian" claim not in source cited

Currently, the last sentence of the "Beliefs" section (i.e., "He now professes to be a Christian.") is misleading and is not supported by the source cited. I read the cited article and watched the entire video it is supposed to be based on, and at no point in either one did Carrey "profess to be a Christian". He merely spoke about choosing forgiveness in the face of suffering, using some vaguely Christian language in the context of a talk he was giving to a Christian charity. Nothing he said in the talk ("Every cell in your body is God," etc.) in any way contradicted his past statements about his spiritual beliefs, which are well known to be quite eclectic and by no means distinctly Christian.

I am assuming the person who added that statement meant well but was confused by the cited article's headline (which is from an evangelical Christian news outlet and is itself very misleading), but even taken at face value the cited text as a whole does not really support the "professes to be a Christian" claim. I would suggest removing that sentence along with its problematic source and replacing it with something like:

"Carrey was raised Roman Catholic.[1] As an adult his spiritual beliefs became more eclectic, drawing from a variety of sources including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Transcendental Meditation, and the ideas of Eckhart Tolle.[2][3][4][5]"

This could actually replace the entire last paragraph of the "Beliefs" section, as it incorporates the mention of Transcendental Meditation from the previous sentence.

Partly done: You're correct that the last sentence fails verification for the reasons stated. I removed that sentence but I did not add the suggested text as it seems to come too close to synthesis. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 22:51, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 18 February 2018

As of 1/20/2018, Jim Carrey has been cleared in White's death and "White's medical record and STD test results were recently found to be forged: White had changed the details of a friend's clean 2011 test to suggest she had been infected only after beginning a relationship with Carrey." [1] Hopebox1982 (talk) 08:02, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Partly done: Carrey was not "cleared" as this was a civil suit that was dismissed, not a legal exoneration. The date of the suit's dismissal and a mention of the lack of further proceedings was added with better sources but the suggestion of fraud was not due to WP:BLP concerns. Thank you. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 19:24, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

"2007, continued success" but no actual success since 2014

The table of contents breaks his career down into segments, the last of which is "2007 to present, continued success." That covers 10+ years as of now. It is early 2018 as I post this section.

It seems rather promotional in wording, considering that Carrey's career seems to have slowed down quite a bit after 2009, which is 8+ years ago. His last film that could be considered a success (Dumb and Dumber To) came out in 2014, 3+ years ago.

Perhaps this section was created circa 2008-2010 when it seemed to be true, but at this point, it feels like it was written by Carrey's agent. I suggest further dividing it into something like "2007-2014, continued success" and "2015-present, fewer high profile projects" (not sure on wording).

[Comment from another user] FWIW, I agree this section heading should be changed so it's more NPOV, but I think providing words after the dates is unnecessary and inappropriate, unless one or more significant events happen in the future. I think the section should just say "2007 - present" or "Projects after 2007".EvidenceFairy (talk) 06:47, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

We should instead save citizenship year details for the article body when infoboxes are supposed to just summarize key details of what's already present. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 23:11, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for understanding, that was all I was asking for to be removed. Again, I think you kindly for removing them! 97.47.67.110 (talk) 23:15, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Under 'Change of Pace', I suggest altering the passage including "...delivered family crowds en masse. The film was also a box office success, raking in...". This reads like promotional material. Also, the cited source, a Rotten Tomatoes page, makes no mention of "family crowds." Amethyst83 (talk) 10:14, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

Hollywood Emmy awards

I was just as sickened as you when will Smith smacked chris rock in the face. " I can understand that I would feel angry if some comedian said a joke about my wife calling her gi jane." But I can tell that your a man of integrity you wouldn't do it. I have schizophrenia and autism and I'm married and I can have angry out burst but that doesn't mean I should beat the crap out of some one I let my wife calm me down. Any ways I want to see your new sonic the hedge hog movie your fake mustache looks cool. You play a really good dr robonique. 2601:601:510:3E90:817B:315:28F5:D0BE (talk) 02:06, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Newmarket

Should Newmarket really be called a "Toronto suburb"? It's about 50 km from downtown Toronto, with Vaughan or Markham (both cities), plus Richmond Hill and Aurora (towns) in between. 142.127.118.145 (talk) 19:10, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Leap Day William/Leap Dave Williams

Jim Carrey did not play Leap Day William in the 30 Rock episode "Leap Day." Rather, he played an actor (likely himself) performing the titular role in "Leap Dave Williams," a holiday film inspired by the iconic Leap Day figure. The role of Leap Day William was performed by John Cullum (credited as 'Mysterious Man'). 67.4.192.145 (talk) 15:14, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Remove the claim that says that Carrey was diagnosed with ADHD and that "it is reported that he has always been restless", etc. Because the source is not good at all. This is an Internet rumor that Carrey himself never confirmed (in fact I'm pretty sure it's false). Anyway, the source certainly does not meet requirements for a medical diagnosis claim, or for any claim in fact. Constantino178 (talk) 13:06, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

February 17th 1997 Oprah Interview sourced

The section in "Beliefs" regarding the quote where Jim Carrey explains to Oprah how he visualized 10 million dollars was previously without a citation. I cited it with a video on Oprah.com showing footage from this episode and also added the exact date to the article which was February 17th 1990, as confirmed by the video. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiprimz (talkcontribs) 20:45, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

Jim Carrey falsely accused of giving White STDS.

[1] states that the "Through discovery, Boucher came to the conclusion that a 2011 document showing White had clean test results prior to meeting Carrey was a forgery." The section on Jim Carrey showing that he had tested positive on STDs should be removed or updated due to the section implies that Jim Carrey had infected white with four stds.

[2] Implies that Carrey was falsely accused.

[3] "Jim Carrey has been cleared of playing a part in his ex-lover’s suicide after his lawyer proved she tried to blackmail him with faked STD results."

According to the motion in Los Angeles, White altered her friend’s Planned Parenthood files to trick Carrey into believing that she did not have STDs before meeting him. Using a 2013 negative test result from her friend, White allegedly backdated the form to 2011 and presented the form to Carrey as her own. is a direct reference from [4]

According to Following the dismissal of the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Carrey confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter the matters were dismissed on January 25, but had no comment to make beyond saying 'Jim is looking forward to moving on with his life now'. [5]

The "Yes Man" may be needing help

Jim Carrey has entertained the whole world and I believe he deserves a lift out of depression from his fans (if he wishes it). In fact, depression is an occupational hazard of Comedians (Charlie Chaplin was depressed too) because they have to spend a lot of energy to make others laugh at one's expense, which may affect the way relatives and friends view and evaluate their value (mature relatives and friends know the distinction between personal and professional life but not immature ones).
Doctors say ADHD problem doesn't affect much in adulthood but if it does in certain cases, then such people need a lot of a variety of interesting physical activities so their energies, thoughts and emotions flow freely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.185.72.161 (talkcontribs) 07:03, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
