When are the results for this year's ceremony viewership? Espngeek (talk) 17:17, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

15.4 million in the United States, as listed in the infobox at the top of the article. Zanimum (talk) 00:59, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

What 12th nomination?

I checked the nominations for Power of the Dog and it's clearly 11. Espngeek (talk) 15:44, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

I counted again, and I got 12. Did you count the other nomination under Best Supporting Actor? Jolly1253 (talk) 16:26, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
I forgot about that one. Thanks XD Espngeek (talk) 21:15, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

Hollywood Blvd closed in preparations for the 94th Academy Awards

Hollywood Blvd closed in preparations for the 94th Academy Awards ceremony

Just for the fun of the moment, in the afternoon we walked down Hollywood Blvd and found it closed at the Hollywood and Highland intersection. Apparently, the closure is part of preparations for the 94th Academy Awards ceremony.

The crowd has been growing by the minute. But all parking lots around the area are closed to public due to security and reservations related to Academy awards.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Kotofski (talkcontribs) 3:33, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Is this worth adding? https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/oscars-toto-africa-daniel-kaluuya-h-e-r-1235119925/ Kailash29792 (talk) 13:35, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

No, the "slammers" are random Twitter acounts. (CC) Tbhotch 15:05, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Much empty space under the Films with multiple nominations and awards header

There is much space between the header and the table, please fix it. OffsideGoal (talk) 09:05, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Extended protection

Can you please extend the protection? Fortunewriter (talk) 08:59, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

I've extended it to a week from now, based on the probability for controversy to extend beyond March 30. -- Zanimum (talk) 01:04, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Chris Rock/Will Smith confrontation

Obviously, the Rock/Smith confrontation will be the big story coming out of this ceremony. Where should we put it in this article? ekedolphin (talk) 02:53, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

For the moment, stick to exactly what we saw on the broadcast, and put it in a new section (1.7 under Ceremony Information). Specter Koen (talk) 02:57, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
should we provide background info on Jada's alopecia condition? 2001:569:7DCF:9A00:E069:7786:6188:65E (talk) 03:30, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
CNN has mentioned her condition in their article about the incident, so I would say that it is reasonable to include. --Super Goku V (talk) 04:43, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Absolutely yes. LAPD acting like big stars' private security firm again. You don't need a personal complaint to arrest someone. Plenty of video and eyewitness evidence. Book Will, Dano! 73.180.8.184 (talk) 10:25, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

This slap needs its own article. Its very newsworthy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.180.8.184 (talk) 10:22, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

The article also seems to assume that Chris Rock knew about Jada's alopecia. It is entirely possible that he didn't know and was simply referring to her choice of hairstyle (I didn't know about the alopecia until this incident). Sacr1fyce (talk) 05:19, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
I have modified the lede a bit so that it is more about her hair style rather than her condition. (Likely, further improvements will be needed.) Super Goku V (talk) 09:04, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
The wording that was used in this article was misleading, and TMZ is not a reliable source as to whether Chris Rock knew about her alopecia. Removing this content unless a more reliable source can back this information up. QueenofBithynia (talk) 19:18, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I was surprised it doesn't have its own article tbh. It has definitely overshadowed all other aspects of the awards - especially internationally. Wikipedia ought not to be downplaying this, but I understand why we don't want to give in to sensationalism either. QueenofBithynia (talk) 19:19, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
To get its own article, the assault would have to take on a life of its own, like it people were to start calling slaps "King Williams" or "Fresh Princes". We know that the award ceremony will remain notable permanently, we don't know about this situation's permanent notability. -- Zanimum (talk) 01:11, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

"Altercation"

Is it really an "altercation" or "confrontation" if one of the persons involved didn't react or even defend himself? Seems more like an attack, hit or strike as referred to by various RS --Loganmac (talk) 07:50, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Might be better to go with the older header of "Onstage assault of Chris Rock by Will Smith" or even have a rename to something else. It was one-sided with no actions taken by Rock. --Super Goku V (talk) 11:49, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
I have changed the section title accordingly. QueenofBithynia (talk) 19:10, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
I'm changing it back per WP:NPOV and WP:BLP. Is it an assault if nobody presses charges? – Muboshgu (talk) 20:03, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Fair enough. I still think that "confrontation" is euphemistic in this context. QueenofBithynia (talk) 21:09, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
For their part, the Academy calls it an "incident". -- Zanimum (talk) 01:08, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

In Memoriam

in the (In memoriam) section Arlene Dahl was left out. She died on November 29, 2021 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.119.106.175 (talk) 16:34, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

We report what happened, not what should have happened. (CC) Tbhotch 16:40, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
In addition to Tbhotch's comment, the Academy's In Memoriams are meant to be balanced between the various professions represented in awards. As such, the actors are generally under-represented versus recognition. -- Zanimum (talk) 01:01, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
Arlene Dahl could at least be listed at the top with Ed Asner who is listed as being notably left out 137.119.106.175 (talk) 02:45, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Animation controversy

The introduction of the Best Animated Feature category, especially the dismissive nature in which they inferred it was merely for kids, created quite a controversy among the animation community, especially in the midst of the Animation Guild's negotiations with AMPTP and the #NewDeal4Animation movement. I wonder if adding another section to the Controversy section is appropriate here. Dahumorist (talk) 23:01, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Is there coverage on any of the animation industry news websites? -- Zanimum (talk) 00:57, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Will Smith and Chris Rock confrontation

When is this incident getting its own stand-alone article? Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 02:29, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

@Joseph A. Spadaro: Unless coverage continues on this for a long time, I see no justification for a separate article for the event. Bsoyka (talk) 05:03, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
It seems someone has already created the Will Smith–Chris Rock Oscars altercation article (unfortunately, in my view). I'm almost tempted to propose a merge of that article. The incident, while attracting more discussion than almost anything else during this year's Oscars, doesn't seem to be notable at the moment. – Epicgenius (talk) 15:15, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
I was just about to reply: an article was started on 02:06, March 28, 2022‎. I'm not so sure. I think this was a "big deal" ... and is going to become an even "bigger deal". We have to wait and see what actions, if any, the Academy takes ... not to mention, what actions, if any, the police department takes. My guess is that they will all be "hyper-sensitive" to political correctness ... i.e., take no meaningful action ... but do some perfunctory gesture that "looks good", yet (again) does nothing. My opinion. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:16, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Yet another edit request

Under the performers section of "Presenters and performers", both D-Nice and Sunday Service Choir are unlinked. Here's a source for D-Nice, if needed: [1] --181.115.61.24 (talk) 04:06, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

The section for the Will Smith and Chris Rock altercation has a mildly incorrect quote from Rock. I am requesting that "Rock replied, 'I will'" be changed to "Rock replied, 'I'm going to, okay?'" 76.233.79.86 (talk) 11:35, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
